Chapter Twenty-seven

Haig
The play is over. I need to be serious because killing people is serious. Cain is a bit of a joker, but he was not totally a boring friend just like other people. I also like to have a friend who is always happy and just smiling, though there are many problems that are waiting for them ahead. Those kinds of people are the people who can live longer in this world, because I believe that laughter is the best medicine. There are just things that someone laughed about, but the other was not affected and made them irritated, but it was just normal. I must laugh about it rather than become angry and irritated because it will just destroy the good vibes.
"Why did you bring me here?" I asked, seriously. Well, I have an idea of why we are here, and that is to search for people that we can sacrifice to get rid of the curses that are on both me and Cain. I know Cain will help me in searching for people that we can kill, because his freedom also lies in it. I just need to do this thing faster because the curse on me is always trammeling and not making me fall asleep every night, unlike the curse on Cain that seemed not to be bothering him.
"You already know it. If you see someone that is strolling around, just kill them. You don't need to show any sympathy. They will die if this day is for them, and if they cannot die, then they are lucky."
"Why are you telling that to me? Don't you know that sometimes others' fate lies in our hands because we are deciding if we will kill them or not?" I asked.
"Showing sympathy in this kind of situation is just a weakness and can be a hindrance to getting the thing that you need to get. That is why I am telling you now that you must not show any sympathy, squeamish everything and if you succeed, you cannot taste the bitter part of it, but the sweetness."
"The sweetness? But sweets can make me ill, it can bring me sickness, just like toothache, diabetes, hard to urinate, etcetera, etcetera."
"You are so clever, but you must use your cleverness in the right time, because you made it far from what I really mean."
"Then tell me what do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean, did you see those men and women ahead? They are a couple. You must go to them and do your mission. Kill them. Let us see if they really love each other and if their love can help them survive," Cain replied.
Maybe that is why Cain said that they are a couple, though there is a possibility that they are just friends or siblings. My heart throbbed harder while walking towards them. I know that I don't want to kill people like them because they are not doing anything wrong. I don't care about it anymore. Mistakes are just what we are thinking about. Without thinking, we cannot define a mistake. Nothing is ever completely wrong, because even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
The man is wearing black pants, a white shirt, and black boots. He has curly hair. While the woman is dressed in a black shaggy coat, black pants striped with white fabrics on both sides, and black boots. The woman has long hair and is shorter than the man, both of whom are taller than me.
I am still tried, though I don't know how to kill humans, but because I've seen how the curse has killed those people before, I have an idea of how to kill them. While Cain, on the other hand, is just watching how I could kill this couple. Until I am in their back now, it is good to know that they have not noticed me because they are not looking at their back. I suddenly grabbed their heads and all–strength rammed against each other's heads. I mistook my moves. It was not the right way to drop them easily because their heads were so thick and hard. The woman ran away while the man was not affected, and he clenched his hand, preparing to punch me without saying anything. The man looked stronger than I did. I could not recognize his face because the place was getting darker with the fog.
There's one more thing: something is whispering in my ear, despite the fact that no one is nearby. I knew that it was the power of hearing, but I don't know where it came from. It is telling me right now what the next move of this man is. When the man was going to punch my face, I avoided him. He punched me again and again, which made him irritated as to why he could not hit me. Though he was taller than me, I had kicked him in the face. It was so cool that I had hit him. The noise beside my ear does not stop telling me the next move of the man; it helps me avoid receiving a punch and kick from him.
I never thought this power could help in this kind of situation. I had been thinking before that it could not help me in all ways. It will just become an obstruction for me. Now, it has proved itself that it was more than just a friend who would be there in times of need. more than a friend, that it will only show in sorrow or need and not in happiness. It is true that if something is for me, I don't need to pursue it because even how much I throw it away, it will still comeback because it was destined for me.
After many times that the man punched and hit me, he had not hit me even once with a punch or kick. After many times that I hit him in his face and everywhere, I realized that his weakness was the same as every man's weakness. I kicked him in the center of his thigh with full strength. That made him cry out and become flabby.
"Ahh-hhaaww!" the man exclaimed. "What kind of boy are you? There are many things to kick. Why did you kick mine?" he complained.
"If you are thinking that I am just playing with you, then you will be disappointed." I grabbed the opportunity while he was looking down to hold his neck and grasped it with all my strength. That put him out of consciousness. I failed yet again, and I'm not sure why he still had a pulse despite the fact that I had held his neck and knocked him out. Cain saw what happened, so he went towards me.
"You are good at martial arts, but he is still alive. Why won't you carry him and throw him against a thick or hard object, just like that wall there?" He asked while pointing to the wall ahead.
"You are right," I replied. I am so strong that I can carry the man alone. I estimated that he is heavier than one sack of rice. Though it was still far from the wall, I threw the man there with all the force that made a loud blast.
"What do you think? Is he dead now?" I asked.
Cain had checked on the man and told me that he was definitely dead and there was not a way to bring him back to life. Cain seemed to be performing fake magic. Maybe it was just his way of offering the psyche of the man to the spirit that he mentioned, who could help him out of the curse and go back to the place of spirit where he came from.
I am so merciless that I have killed too many people. I will just consider everything as an adventurous game. I don't care about it anymore. I need to finish this because I already started it. I knew that it was only an ordeal, and every ordeal is not permanent. I need to be strong because there are still many people that I need to kill in order to get rid of the curse. Maybe I will stop going to school and focus instead on killing people. I cannot focus on my schooling if the curse won't let me sleep every night as it reaches its new victim. This thing is more important than anything else because it could cost me everything. I can still continue my schooling after I finish my mission, because schooling can wait, but this curse cannot wait.
It is not that I don't trust Cain, but I am worried that my parents know about this thing, especially my father. I don't know what their reactions would be if they knew. I am still a minor and it is their responsibility to guide me until I turn eighteen. They are overprotective of me, but they do not know that there are many things that I am doing while they are busy. My parents are so hardworking that I will simply waste their efforts for my own benefit. It is not my mistake that they are so hardworking and do not know what is happening to me. I better not think too much about them because they will just bother me and make me worried. What I need to do is to finish my mission, and I will not worry about them after it.
Cain stood up and said, "I am done. The psyche of the man was accepted by the spirit that can help me get rid of the cursed."
"Is there a possibility that the spirit that you mentioned won't accept the spirit that you are offering to him?" I asked.
"Yeah, there is a possibility that he won't accept the spirit, because he was sometimes choosy."
"How can you know that he accepted the psyche of the person that you are offering him?"
He replied, "He will show some signs, just like if the body of the person had disappeared."
"But why the body of the..." I had not finished my words when I saw that the body of the man that I had killed had disappeared from the spot where he was lying. Cain is really telling the truth when he says that the psyche of the man was accepted by the spirit that could help him go back to where he came from.
"Haig, I trust in you, so please learn to trust me too. I know that it is not easy to trust someone who has made big mistakes before. The only thing that I am asking for from you is your trust, because it can help us to build a good partnership. If the day comes that we are separated, there will be many good memories that will be left behind, and every bad memory will be blown away with the wind."
"You are. We don't know what will happen next, but it seems that you are assuming that there is a good future that is waiting for us. I cannot even kill a hundred people and get rid of this curse. It will take us a long time before that happens, but I swear to trust you if you also swear that you won't do anything that can hurt me," I said.
"Of course, I won't."
"So I am giving you absolution and blessing."
"Thank you for giving me your absolution from the mistake that I did to you, but I don't know why you are giving me a blessing," he replied.
"I mean that I am also giving you my trust."
"Oh–thank you Haig!" Cain exclaimed. "But don't forget that we still need to search for more people to kill. You need to prepare for it because the ordeal will become more difficult. I am sure that the next person that you need to kill is stronger than the one that you killed."
"What? What did not you tell me that early?" I asked.
"Because I don't want you to worry too much, because there are many things that you need to deal with. Have you forgotten that I said once that there was no easy way to get rid of the curse? That you need to prepare for your fights if you really want to get rid of that?" he replied.
"I cannot remember it and I am not expecting that the people that I need to kill are like a game that every level will become harder and harder until I can no longer endure it, and in that case, the game will be over."
"I knew that you would worry too much if you knew that thing, and you would think that it was hopeless. Haig, I am telling you that if you are down, I am always here and I want to help you if you need my help," he said, sincerely.
"Well, I am not thinking too much about it. If I can not endure it anymore and it becomes game over, then I can still try again. Try and try until we succeed," I said, confidently.
"Thank you for your understanding, Haig. I just want to say sorry to you again because I did not tell you about this thing earlier."
"Absolution for you, and if there are other things that you are not telling me, you better tell them now, because I don't want you to hide them from me without a good reason."
"There are no other things that I am hiding from you, but I know that you are hiding something from me, so, would you tell me about it?" He asked.
