Chapter 36:

The entrance to the Temple of the Earth’s Heart loomed before them, ancient and covered in thick vines. It was massive, like a forgotten monument of a time when nature ruled the world. The air was heavy with moisture, and the ground hummed beneath their feet, as if the earth itself was alive.
Nathan took a deep breath and stepped forward, pushing open the heavy stone door. The vines seemed to move away on their own, parting to allow them access. Doms and Zara followed close behind, their weapons at the ready.
Inside, the temple was dark and cool, the walls lined with carvings of plants, animals, and mountains. There was a deep sense of power here, an ancient force that had existed long before they arrived.
“Do you feel that?” Zara whispered, her staff glowing faintly as she touched the stone walls. “It’s like the earth is speaking to us.”
Nathan nodded. He could feel the power too—something deep and old, far beneath the surface, waiting for them.
As they moved deeper into the temple, the air grew thicker, and the ground beneath them became uneven. Suddenly, the path split into two.
“Which way?” Doms asked, glancing between the two corridors.
Nathan checked the map, but the glowing symbols didn’t give any clear direction. He looked up at the ceiling, where vines hung down, and then back at the ground, which was covered in soft moss.
“I think we need to trust the earth,” Zara said softly. “Like the Guardian of the Violet Flame said.”
Nathan closed his eyes, focusing on the energy around them. Slowly, he extended his hand toward the left path, and the ground beneath him seemed to respond, a faint vibration guiding him.
“This way,” he said, opening his eyes.
They followed the left path, the air growing warmer and more humid the farther they went. The temple walls seemed to close in around them, and the ground became softer, almost as if it were breathing.
Finally, they reached a large chamber, the center of which was dominated by a massive tree. Its roots spread across the floor, intertwining with the stone, and its branches reached up toward the ceiling, piercing through cracks in the stone. The tree’s bark was glowing faintly with a green light, and the air around it buzzed with energy.
“This must be it,” Doms said, staring up at the tree in awe. “The Earth’s Heart.”
Nathan stepped forward, his gloves glowing in response to the power of the tree. “The Guardian must be here somewhere.”
Suddenly, the ground beneath their feet began to shake, and the tree’s roots started to move. The roots curled around the floor, forming a circle around Nathan, Doms, and Zara.
From the base of the tree, a figure emerged—tall, covered in moss and vines, with eyes that glowed green like the tree’s bark. Its presence was overwhelming, like the very force of nature made manifest.
“I am the Guardian of the Earth’s Heart,” the figure said, its voice deep and resonating through the chamber. “You have come seeking the power of the earth. But only those who are worthy may receive it.”
Nathan stepped forward, his gloves glowing brightly. “We need your help. The Violet King is coming, and we don’t have much time. The earth’s power is the only way we can stop him.”
The Guardian studied them for a long moment, its eyes narrowing. “The power of the earth is not given lightly. You must prove your connection to the land, to the forces that shape the world. Only then will you be worthy.”
Nathan nodded. “What do we need to do?”
The Guardian extended its hand, and the roots of the tree shifted, forming a circle around them. “You must face the Trial of the Earth’s Heart. The earth will test you, and you must prove that you are one with its power.”
The ground beneath Nathan’s feet began to tremble, and suddenly, the roots of the tree surged up around him, separating him from Doms and Zara. He found himself standing alone in the center of the chamber, surrounded by walls of twisting roots and vines.
“This is your trial,” the Guardian’s voice echoed through the chamber. “The earth will challenge your strength, your will, and your connection to the natural world. Survive, and the power will be yours.”
Nathan took a deep breath, focusing on the energy around him. He could feel the earth moving beneath him, shifting and changing, as if it were alive.
Suddenly, the ground cracked open, and massive stone pillars rose up from the floor, surrounding him. The pillars began to shake, and chunks of stone fell from the ceiling, crashing down around him.
Nathan’s heart raced, but he stood his ground, focusing on the power of the earth. His gloves glowed brighter, and he extended his hand toward the nearest pillar. The stone seemed to respond, slowing its movement as Nathan concentrated on controlling it.
The earth rumbled again, and more pillars rose up, shaking violently. But this time, Nathan was ready. He focused his energy on the ground beneath his feet, feeling the earth’s power flow through him. Slowly, the pillars began to calm, their violent shaking subsiding as Nathan brought them under control.
The Guardian’s voice echoed through the chamber once more. “You have calmed the earth, but now you must face its true test.”
The ground beneath Nathan shifted again, and suddenly, massive roots shot up from the floor, twisting and writhing like serpents. They surged toward Nathan, their sharp edges threatening to trap him.
Nathan’s gloves glowed brighter, and he focused on the roots, willing them to stop. The earth responded to his command, but the roots were strong, their power ancient and deep.
For a moment, it felt like the earth itself was pushing back against him, testing his strength. But Nathan gritted his teeth and held firm, his connection to the earth growing stronger with each passing second.
Finally, with a surge of power, the roots stopped, curling back and retreating into the ground.
Nathan stood there, panting, his heart pounding in his chest. The earth had tested him, but he had passed.
The Guardian appeared before him once more, its glowing green eyes filled with approval. “You have proven your strength and your connection to the earth. The power of the Earth’s Heart is now yours.”
Nathan watched as the Guardian extended its hand, and from the base of the tree, a glowing green stone emerged. It floated toward Nathan, hovering in front of him.
“This is the essence of the Earth’s Heart,” the Guardian said. “It will grant you the strength of the land, the power to shape and control the earth itself. Use it wisely, for it is a force that cannot be tamed easily.”
Nathan reached out and took the stone, feeling its warmth in his hand. The energy of the earth surged through him, filling him with strength.
Nathan stepped back as the roots and pillars receded, and Doms and Zara rushed over to him.
“You did it,” Zara said, her eyes wide with amazement. “You passed the trial.”
Nathan nodded, holding up the green stone. “We have the Earth’s Heart.”
Doms grinned, clapping Nathan on the back. “Man, you’re unstoppable.”
The Guardian watched them, its expression unreadable. “Your journey is far from over. The Violet King’s forces grow stronger every day. You must gather all the power you can before the final battle.”
Nathan nodded, his grip tightening on the Earth’s Heart. “We will.”
The Guardian stepped back, fading into the shadows of the temple. “Go now, and may the earth’s strength be with you.”
With that, the temple began to shake, the walls crumbling as the power of the Earth’s Heart surged through the ground.
“We need to get out of here!” Doms shouted, grabbing Nathan’s arm.
The three of them ran for the entrance as the temple collapsed around them, the ground rumbling beneath their feet.
As they emerged into the jungle, the temple collapsed completely, disappearing into the earth as if it had never been there at all.
Nathan looked down at the green stone in his hand, feeling the weight of their journey. Two trials down, one to go.
“We’re almost there,” he said, his voice filled with determination. “Let’s go.”
