Kayne successfully made his face and name known among the Regulus. He's now respected but his plans are still on going.
"Young master, the master of the house summons you to the library," Peony informed him.
Aside from that, he's now doing his part as a Regulus by overseeing the large movements in society.
"Here," Luke gave him a bundle of paper containing a specific report. "You'll be working under Lucian for a while to investigate this matter. Prepare your luggage and be ready to depart tomorrow."
Kayne read the report and saw a familiar name included on the suspected list. House Venalis. He just hopes that Koiren isn't part of any of this.
The case involves an illegal trade route of Duane. An illegal drug that leaves its users depressed after several use, leading to an addiction. The council of Farmas already counted Duane as a dangerous drug to use but its popularity never declined among Neos since inhaling Duane gives a temporary boost to themselves, eliminating the feeling of pain.
Luke smiled at him. "Kill with a reason, Kayne."
Kayne stared at Luke for a long while. "Why do we kill?"
"Haha, as usual, you always have a question to ask."
Kayne shrugged his shoulders.
"We're unparalleled," Luke started, "And we're unbiased. Our parents gave this role to us and we do it without fail. If perchance we failed to be an exemplary Regulus, we hit ourselves in penance."
"I got it already. Please, don't sound like a cult or something," Kayne whined.
"The cult, you remembered it. Your understanding of the world is improving."
Kayne smiled. Indeed, he's understanding the society now faster than when he's in the institution and being protected by Rigel. Luke took him to many places and helped him discover the unknowns on his own. "I'll do my best to finish this as quickly as possible."
"No you don't need to rush it," Luke guaranteed.
"I'll show you the results of my studying."
Pleased that Kayne is enthusiastic about his task, Luke orders his secretary to ensure that his grandchild has everything that he needs.
Kayne left the Lion's Den the following day. Lucian and Sai personally fetched him from home with their carriage.
"Weird dude." Sai pointed at Kayne. "Are you going to take away something from us?"
Lucian awkwardly hushed Sai and told him to stop pointing but Sai repeated the act, waiting for Kayne to answer.
"No?"
"What kind of answer is that?" Lucian and Sai said in unison.
Kayne laughed at the father and son duo. Obviously, Sai got his temper and distrust from his father.
"Don't you dare put my business down, Kayne." Lucian started with a hint of serious threat.
"Our business, granduncle Lucy," Kayne teased.
"Hey, you're not nice to Lucian." Sai reproached.
"At least I do not call my father by his name," Kayne hit back.
"Lucian..." Sai looked at Lucian with tears in the corner of his eyes.
Lucian glared at Kayne on what he said to Sai. Sai is his favorite child and he spoiled him rotten since the death of his first wife. Although his second wife also had a child with him, his adoration for Sai is beyond comparison. He treats him like the most valuable jewel in the world and indulges him in every way he can.
Kayne made an apologetic smile and distracted himself with the view outside the carriage.
When Sai finally slept, Lucian proceeded to the main reason of Kayne's journey with him. "Remember two rules when you are using my name..."
"Our name, granduncle," Kayne butted in.
Lucian's eyes narrowed at Kayne's remark. "Fine. On using OUR name, make sure that you do your day jobs according to the society's written laws. Money talk should be dealt with by me and you're not allowed to make decisions involving more than a million worth of assets. Next, kill but don't massacre. As the person who does the clean up of Leo's night jobs, it is always my headache every time each of you create a bad news."
"I understood, granduncle."
"And personally, call me uncle instead of granduncle. I was born in the same year as Rigel. We're more like brothers." Lucian requested in a whisper.
"Wow, that's a trivia!"
Lucian smirked and fixed his eyeglasses. Compared to his brother Luke, he's proud that he's way younger than him to the point that he can regard him as his own child.
Lucian's birth is not caused by natural circumstances. He did not come out from a uterus but from an eggshell since he's a true son of a dragon. And he's inside that egg for a decade, causing the huge gap in age.
Their father, Ladon is originally a human that can shift into a dragon similar to Luke. He has two wives, one who is a normal human and another from the dragonkind — original dragons that can transform into humans. Sierra, the dragon from Cima Tierra, is his second wife. Three years after she laid the egg, Ladon died from a curse which caused him too much pain even as a dragon. His first wife followed after a few months, leaving the vulnerable Sierra behind. To protect herself and the egg, Sierra traveled back to Cima Tierra with the help of Luke and lived there in seclusion as a proud dragon. Two years after the egg hatched, she came back to the Lion's Den and left the innocent Lucian in front of their doors. Luke who saw Lucian's dragon mark took him in as his brother and raised him together with Rigel.
Lucian's thirst for money is caused by Luke's promise to him when he's a child. According to Luke he'll take Lucian back to his mother if he'll pay him two bags of pure gold coins for their travel expenses. Unexpectedly, Lucian did what he was told through robbing an aristocratic family living near the Lion's den which left Luke no choice but to escort him to Cima Tierra. In spite of that, Sierra is nowhere to be found. Lucian cried for days in disappointment. When they came back, he changed into a child hoarding all the money he got from gifts. When he turned sixteen, he built his own business apart from the Regulus family and won negotiations against noble families, creating the business empire he has now. All this time, he devoted himself to money making until Sai was born.
"Can you change yourself into a dragon?," Kayne asked to break the ice inside the carriage.
"No," Lucian replied. "Because this form is my dragon form," he said, pertaining to his human form. "If you don't believe me, I can throw my brother in his dragon state up in the air with a single hand to prove it."
Kayne imagined the picture of Lucian throwing Luke away. He can see the unrealistic comedy but brushed it away before he cracked up. "I see. I see," he said.
