Ten days later, we created the music video for our song, “Where Were You Last Night” This was shot in different locations. A condominium, a convenience store, a beach, and a forest.
The story of this video revolves around a man named Lewis. He works as an order picker in a convenience store on Mondays and Fridays and a lifeguard at a beach on Saturdays and Sundays. He has a wife, two very young sons, and two daughters who were a few years older. Given that they are in a big family and that the wife is a homemaker, he is obligated to work two jobs to financially support his family.
His wife Anna complains that he is too busy and that she misses their quality time, with her alone and with her and the children.
“Don’t worry, honey, I will find time to spend with you alone and with us together with the kids,” he promised. “But now let me work so we have a bright future ahead and that our kids will study in better schools.”
“All right,” the wife says. “I love you so much, honey.” She kisses her husband on the lips.
“I love you so much, too, honey,” he replies with those sweet words and loving kisses.
Later on, at night, Anna drinks a bottle of wine to drown her sorrows.
On a Saturday night, an attractive girl is drowning in the sea at the beach where Lewis is working. He comes down from the lifeguard tower, runs towards the sea, and swims. Then she rescues the drowning girl. Someone takes a picture of him carrying the girl. Lewis performs CPR on the girl and she recovers. The girl and her friends thank him. Lewis replies that they don’t have to thank him because he was just doing his job.
Upon coming home, Anna confronts him, “So this is what you were doing at the beach, huh?” She yells at him as she shows the photo on her phone. Apparently, the picture of him carrying the girl was on social media.
“What? I just saved the girl because she was drowning!” He shouts back.
“Oh, you expect me to believe that?” She widens her eyes and glares at him.
“Yes! Because I am your husband, and I have always been loyal to you!”
“If I catch you cheating once, I will leave you,” she threatens him. “And I will bring our children with me. You will never see them.”
The children cry because they are fighting.
On the night of their anniversary, Anna waits as she sits by a table with candles in their living room. But her husband never comes. She blows away the fires from the candles at 12:00 am and sleeps alone in their bed.
Upon reaching home, Anna confronts her husband and asks in a loud voice, “Where were you last night? Why did you forget our anniversary?”
“I’m sorry, I am just swamped at work,” Lewis replies lamely.
“Save your excuses; I’m leaving with the kids!” She says with determination.
“Let me make up to you; let’s have dinner later at 8 p.m. I will drive you to a lovely restaurant,” he promises her. The wife’s features soften, and she forgives her husband.
At 7:00 pm, he picks up his wife from home and drives her to an unexpected location. He wants to surprise his wife, so he blindfolds her. When she takes off her blindfold, she realizes that she is sitting by the table with candles in front of her husband. She is surprised, and her mouth waters at the sight of a wonderful dinner of steak, mashed potatoes, bread, and red wine.
“Thank you for this lovely dinner, honey,” she said with utmost gratitude. “I know you promised me a restaurant, but dining with you in this forest is so much better. I am so sorry I have doubted your faithfulness.”
“Oh, honey, no worries,” he waves off his hand. “I understand how you feel.”
He takes her hand and holds it. “Here let me show you beautiful things.”
He leads her to the dark corner of the forest. They are in a grassy field with names of women engraved in stones.
“I don’t understand,” she says, shaking her head off. She stares in confusion. Her body shivers in the cold and unsettling feeling.
“This is where I bury my women,” he confesses and smiles horrifyingly at her. “You. Are. Next!”
He attacks her with a knife. The knife glints in her round, scared eyes. She struggles during the attack and fights back. But he subdues her and kills her with a knife. His face and body are full of her blood. He dugs up her grave, throws her inside, and buries her.
Of course, the dialogues in our music video were silent. So that the viewers and listeners could listen well to the song.
Our music video was received positively, gaining millions of likes and views on the popular video platform V-Mube. It was the same platform where I also gained popularity as a cover artist. Now, I was a vocalist of a metal band, and we were gradually becoming famous. My dream was coming true! All my hard work and efforts, as well as my band members’, were paying off! Our music video landed on the charts of both local and international music channels. On the local music channel Fiery Music Videos, our video landed on the eighth spot of the top ten. On the international music channel, Aqua Music Channel, it landed on the fifth spot of the top 10!
I pinched myself to know if this was true. My arm ached a tiny bit. This indeed was really happening.
“Woohoo!” Noah hollered happily.
“This calls for a celebration!” Liam suggested.
“I will tell our manager; he’s supposed to know the good news,” Sebastian uttered.
“Right on!” Dianne exclaimed.
“I’ll order pizza and beverages,” Dominic said.
“Good thinking, Dominic,” Sebastian agreed. “Sir Jimmy will be here soon.”
“Yeah, you should order liquors too while you’re at it!” Dianne chimed in excitedly.
