Chapter 82 Happy for You

It was a Thursday morning. It was pouring. I was running on a treadmill at home while listening to EDM and metal music. This was my daily exercise, five times a week, excluding weekends. Tomorrow I would be shooting for a magazine. I would be on the cover of a men’s magazine. I trained so hard at the gym with my personal trainer and at home, so I maintained a toned body. I was also on a strict diet of vegetables and fruits and occasionally meat. I avoided sugar as much as possible. Sweat was dripping on my forehead as the rain dripped on the windows.
My phone rang. I stopped the treadmill for a little while and answered my phone.
“Imogen,” the caller said. It was Ava.
“Yes?"I asked.
“Are you busy now? I have a problem,” she informed me. “Can you come here at home? I needed someone to talk to.”
“Sure,” I responded sympathetically.
Ava lived in Beverly Hills. I drove there to her house. When I entered her luxurious house, I was greeted by her and our friends, Danielle and Harper. We kissed each other’s cheeks.
Ava prepared liquor and snacks on the table. Her face was sorrowful, her eyebags were deep, and her cheeks were sunken. She was not her usual joyful self. But hints of her beauty were still there.
“God, I’m so sorry that I’m such a mess,” she apologized to us as she poured us glasses of liquor.
“Don’t be sorry,” I told her. “Tell us what happened.”
Our friends nodded, showing her sympathy and comforting her with gentle touches. We were all ears as she told us her tale of woe.
“There’s this guy I met in a variety show. I watched with my friend Vicky, who was a producer there. We were seated in the front row. While watching a talent segment, a breakdancing group caught the eye of the audience and, inevitably, the eyes of Vicky and me. They were super talented, so they won. One of the dancers came up to me after the show. He introduced himself to me. His name was Ezra, and he had rugged good looks and alluring charm. He was also nice. Anyway, we talked and exchanged numbers. We got close. We dated, and eventually, after a few months, we were in a relationship. He constantly gave me flowers, chocolates, and love letters. He was so sweet.”
“But one day, he confessed to me that he was poor. He lived in Compton, by the way. I accepted him for who he was because I loved him dearly. But I tactfully asked him why he was poor since he was a finalist. He told me that dancers like him didn’t earn much. He had a son, and he was separated from the mother. He also gave money to his siblings and parents because they were depending on him. I loved him for that. However, after several days, he borrowed money from me. He was earning little since he didn’t win the competition and his gigs were not regular. So I lent him money. He never paid me back. I didn’t mind back then.”
“But as soon as the borrowed money from me accumulated into 50,000 dollars, I realized that it was high time to pay me back. I texted him and messaged him on social media. But he never replied to any of the texts and messages. I called him. He blocked my number. He also blocked me on all of my socials.”
I was even tempted to expose him on social media, but I believe it would backfire on me, and it was against the law. I used to believe all his lies. But one day, I created a fake social media account to stalk his page. I saw that he was dating another pretty and rich woman! I cried myself to sleep every night after that. What should I do?
Danielle responded, "50,000 dollars is serious, even though you could easily earn that back and more since you are rich. In this economy, we needed to save money, and this includes getting back the money you lent. To add, you were betrayed by Ezra. He showed you how much he loved you, but all those actions and words were all lies. Plus, the fact that he cheated on you and blocked you on all platforms when you asked for his payment is just too much. How dare he do such things to you? When he and his family practically live through your money? He made you into a sugar mother, and you were too young and too gorgeous to be that.”
Harper replied, "Danielle was right. How could he do such a thing? He was a man, and he was supposed to be the provider, not the other way around. He was such a gold digger. To be honest, even though I myself wouldn’t do it, I wouldn’t blame you if you shame him on social media. Countless people have done it, and I haven’t heard stories of them getting into trouble because of what they did. Regardless of that, I was glad you didn’t do it. You showed maturity and class. I hope someday you will find someone who will treat you right.”
I answered, “You did the right thing by not shaming that stupid guy on social media. There are consequences, and even though you were hurt and you were clearly right, and several people will support you for it, it is sad to say that if you did it, there will be a legal problem. Since violating a person’s privacy and exposing it to the public is against the law. However, I commend you for your control. You didn’t expose your dirty laundry in the public, and we are all impressed and proud of that and you.”
“I want you to be careful in using the fake account, though. Use it wisely and don’t retaliate with it. However, I advise you, if you can and only if you want to, and if you are comfortable with the idea, you can message the girl the truth so that Ezra wouldn’t use the girl’s money. Also, you can file a case against Ezra. I have a lawyer friend. Her name is Atty. Catherine Williams. She is an excellent lawyer, and she fights for women’s rights. I’ll give her details to you.”
“Thank you so much for giving me such wonderful and intelligent pieces of advice!"Ava told us tearfully. Then she hugged us. All of us engaged in a bear hug.
“And yes, I’m going to contact Catherine Williams,” Ava said to me.
“That’s a wise decision,” I responded positively.
“We wish you good luck,” Danielle stated.
“I know you will win the case,” Harper said. “God is on your side.”
Three days later, we went to a beach. We wanted to cheer up Ava and for her to take her mind off things. I squeezed in our bonding time today in my tight schedule. It was a perfect day. It was bright, shiny, and warm. At day, we took pictures, swam, and ate and drank exquisite foods and drinks. At night, we danced at the clubs. Some fans approached me. But I politely declined their photo opportunities and autograph requests since I wanted to focus on my friends. No one cancelled me on the internet; thank God for that! Ava posted a photo of herself in a bikini on all her social media platforms. She was gorgeous and sexy. That photo received millions of likes and positive comments. We were happy for her.
