CHAPTER 55: LOST CONTROL

Harold landed the jet on what was left of the Plaza of Etruria. Jean, Leinth, and Jon went out of the jet immediately. The whole place is a mess: shattered buildings, cars that were rolled over, signage that was thrown meters away from where it was supposed to be and scattered fires around the area.
“What the hell happened here?” Jon asked.
Jean’s eyes lit up and she saw what happened.
“What’s happening to you, love?” Leinth asked and put his arm around her.
“Alien robots… they attacked everything… The MARVELOUS landed here but where are they?” she asked and her eyes changed back to normal. She looked on the north direction. “I know where they are. Follow me.” Jean told Jon and Leinth, and they ran towards the ruined buildings and the MARVELOUS were there, only the 8 of them, Pierre was not there. Premo was with them. She was happy to see them all unscathed, though they all looked exhausted.
Since she can control metals, she tried to manipulate the robotic aliens and tried to lift them up at once and smashed them to the grounds, just like what she did in her trainings with Vera.
The MARVELOUS were all exhausted but they managed to smile at her when she did that. But their smile didn’t last long because another army of robotic aliens came and attacked. The three of them joined the rest of the MARVELOUS team and she went beside Vera.
“I think I could pull that trick again.” She said to Vera and tried lifting the robots all up and smashing them to the ground. Every time she does the trick, another set of army would attack.
“You should change your tactics, Jean.” Vera suggested.
“Yeah, I guess.” She agreed. She tried to build a shield around them.
“No Jean, stop! Don’t do that!” Nash cried.
“You will sent us to our demise child!” The queen wailed.
Jean froze by the sound of her voice and everything around her became blurry.
“She’s been hypnotized! I told you it’s dangerous for her to be here!” Premo yelled.
Her eyes turned black and she began to glow with sparkles of lightning all over her. Vera tried to touch her but the crackle of electricity jump scared her.
“Jean! Oh no, not now, please!” Vera said worriedly.
“Annihilation is the best way to cleanse the Earth.” Jean muttered.
“That’s not Jean!” Jon exclaimed.
“Of course, you moron!” Leinth snapped at him and went to Jean.
“Love, I know you are there. If you can hear me, try to fight it. It’s just messing with you! To get you on its side. Come back, love!” he said and tried to touch her but she held his wrist.
“Bestow unto me the Aste Crest.” she told him.
“Never in that frantic dreams of yours, you mewling quim!” Leinth said and brought out his dagger.
“Brother, no!” Tin said but Leinth stabbed her.
She closed her eyes and fell to the ground.
“No…. NOOOO!!!!” Vera screamed and released all her strength. The robotic aliens were dusted to the ground.
She ran towards Jean and Leinth. The others ran towards them, too.
“She’s not dead. I will never hurt her.  It’s just an illusion. I enchanted her.” Leinth said while holding her off the ground.
He waved his fingers and Jean was there, no wounds at all. She slowly opened her eyes.
“Oh, Jean!” Vera, said crying. She hugged her.
“W-what happened? Why are you crying, Vera?” she asked, clueless of what had happened.
“You’re okay kid, that’s all that matters.” Anthony said and smiled at her.
“Of course, Mr. Stanton… Why wouldn’t I be?” she asked, still puzzled.
Nash kneeled beside her.
“You don’t remember what happened.” She said more of a statement.
“I am building a shield and you told me to stop… And then I heard that voice and I froze… And the next thing I know, Vera’s crying next to me.” she told her.
“What voice? Whose voice is it?” Aiden asked.
“The Queen’s… Karnilla’s voice…” she answered.
“That’s impossible. How could you be so sure it was hers?” Tin asked in disbelief.
“Because Nash told me to stop building the shield… That’s… That’s the memory I got from him.” And she pointed her finger to Premo. “The night he came as a dilapidated robot.” she continued.
“Now it makes sense how you got your memory back. He has the Anima in him.” Leinth said.
They all fell silent.
“I think we should all go home now. Our work here is done and the robotic aliens were turned into dust thanks to little witch here.” Anthony said.
“You could have done that in the beginning!” Caleb exclaimed, more on Vera.
“I didn’t know I could, until Leinth stabbed Jean. I thought I lost her, too.” Vera said.
“You stabbed me?!?” Jean asked Leinth in disbelief and checked herself.
“I didn’t. It’s an illusion.” Leinth said and helped her to stand.
“Are you okay, doll?” Jon finally said.
“Yes, Jon. I am fine.” she assured him.
He went to assist her, too.
The undertaker calmed down and went back to being Benedict.
“You should undergo some memory tests with Premo, Jean.” Benedict suggested.
They all walked towards the jet. Harold was waiting for them.
“You all looked terrible. Let’s get you home.” He said.
“Are we just going to leave Etruria like this?” Jean asked, seeing the once lively place became a ruined city.
“The Custodian will look after this. It will be back to its original form in no time.” Harold stated and smiled at her as an assurance.
She nodded even though she was not sure how would that be possible.
They all went inside the jet and Harold flew them back to the compound. During the ride, nobody had spoken even a single word.
