"Sister, is there a problem? Did I do something wrong? Why is Mother Superior calling me?" Mariya worriedly asks the nun, while she's walking with her at the orphanage's hallway. Sister Angela shook her head in return. "I honestly don't have an idea, Mariya. Our Mother Superior just asked me to accompany you to her office, and she didn't say anything else." the nun responded. Mariya's nervousness grew after she heard Sister Angela. She's thinking that maybe she did something wrong, and they want her out from the orphanage. She knows that she's old enough to live outside the orphanage and become independent, but she still can't imagine herself living away from the children. She's an in-house teacher at Sunshine Orphanage, where she also grew up. The nuns are running the orphanage, which house 80 children who are deaf and mute. Even though Mariya doesn't have a disability, the nuns still accepted her. Mother Superior told her that her biological mother came knocking at the orphanage, pregnant, and already in labor. Her mother gave birth to her inside the orphanage. But unfortunately, her mother passed away shortly. The nuns decided to take a look at the woman's bag and they found a diary. In one of the pages, it is said that the father of the baby is a Japanese businessman who's vacationing in the Philippines. They fell in love, and as their relationship progresses, they found out her pregnancy, and the Japanese man went back to his own country without letting his girlfriend know... Mariya grew up with the children, and she thinks that the Sunshine Orphanage will be her forever home. To be able to communicate with the other children, she decided to study sign language... Mariya snaps out from her reverie when she realized that they have reached the Mother Superior's office. She watches Sister Angela who's knocking at the door. "Come in." they heard the old nun's voice inside. Mariya swallows an imaginary lump on her throat as she anxiously walks inside the office. "You can leave us now, Sister Angela." the Mother Superior requested. Sister Angela gave her one last look, then afterwards, she started walking away and gently closes the door. Mariya's hand started sweating and trembling, while waiting for their Mother Superior to speak again. At the same time, she's secretly bracing herself to hear some bad news... "The reason why I summoned you to the office is I have something very important to tell you, Mariya." the Mother Superior began. "Mother Superior, if I did something wrong, please forgive me. I promise you that I will work extra hard at the orphanage, just please don't kick me out here." pleaded Mariya, while looking teary-eyed. The Mother Superior curiously frowns at her. "What are you talking about, Mariya?" "I thought that you're going to ask me to leave the orphanage." Mariya relayed, in a confused manner. The old nun lets out a helpless sigh while shaking her head. "Well, I'm planning to send you away, but it's for a good reason. And you are very much welcome to come back at Sunshine Orphanage after a year!" "I-I don't understand, Mother Superior..." Mariya is getting more and more confused. "Alright, let me tell you everything... I have a dear, old friend who is currently living in Japan. She went to the Philippines for a quick vacation, and she told me that she has built an orphanage in Japan for deaf and mute children. She is also looking for more staff to help her run the orphanage. I suddenly thought of you, since you know how to do sign language, and you are good with socializing and building relationship with other children. If you say yes, you will live in Japan for a year, abd maybe you can finally find and meet your father there." the Mother Superior explains everything. "But it's okay for me not to know about my father. I'm already happy and satisfied here at the Sunshine Orphanage." Mariya tries to reason out. "That's what your mind says, but what does you heart say? I know that deep inside your heart, you want to see your father and ask him many questions." the Mother Superior gently spoke. Mariya became silent because the Mother Superior was right. Even if she feels a bit angry, sad and disappointed, she still dreams of meeting her father. "That maybe true, mother, but I'm still not ready to face him." she finally confesses. "I don't have the right to make a decision for you since your old enough to decide for yourself, but I'm going to give you a piece of advice. No matter what happened between your mother and father, they are still your parents. They both gave you life." the old woman enunciated. Mariya just nodded in return. "Mariya, dear. No matter what happens, I will support you in every decision that you make because you a part of our family." the Mother Superior spoke once again. "Remember that no matter what you decide, I will support you, son. But you have to make a decision as soon as possible because that friend of mine is also going back to Japan." its reminder. "Thank you, Mother." Mariya lets out a polite smile. After a few more minutes, Mariya's meeting with the Mother Superior, and now she's walking at the quiet hallway. And once the Mother Superior is finally alone at the office, she lets out a helpless sighed. She can clearly understand Mariya's feeling. She knows that it will be mentally and emotionally difficult for the young woman to be away from the orphanage, as Mariya practically and literally grew up at the orphanage. Truth is, she also doesn't want to let go of Mariya either, but she doesn't want to deny her the chance of possibly seeing her father after so many years. But if Mariya won't be able to see her biological father again, she will welcome her back, along with the nuns and the children, with open arms.
