Episode 3

The evening breeze started airily, later the two girls clung to each other for comfort , they were too engrossed in their thoughts to hear the orange seller nagging. By now night was filling. After taking to two dumb children, the woman packed up her wares and left.
Later, they looked around, still waiting for the red bus. many people have started leaving. The street had became deserted  and as  suddenly enveloped their area Pamela's the envisaged that all was not going to be well except a miracle occurs.
Alas!  There was no miracle. The driver was sure not to be back, disenchanted she checked her timepiece it was ten in the night.  The area  looked still, their companions were crickets, rats ant and other creeping things.  Ego was dozing off but Pamela could not risk sleep in the open considering the fact that kidnappers or men of the underworld might attack them . she wished that they had begged the orange seller to provide shelter for them.
Pamela dragged Ego up and both started moving forward to the kola kola spot, thought Pamela felt sure that the players must have gone home.  But of course it's was better to see things than guessing.  On their way, she suddenly smiled and stated running up to a figured, which she saw from afar. Ego tried to catch up with her, bewildered at  Pamela change.
"Please sir," said Pamela to young boy in his late teens , he was walking briskly with a fair little girl of about five. Pamela felt that the boy would be kind and harmless. "We are stranded, our bus left us when we wanted to play games . in please sir can you help?, we have nowhere to spend the night. In the morning, we can come back here to wait for the driver.  But we have nowhere to stay now , please help us. God will bless you you " by now Pamela was close to tears and Ego already crying.
The boy took at them curiously and replied "sorry lass, I have no shelter for two, or would you mind sleeping under table?" he smirked and disappeared into the darkness not waiting for an answer.
Pamela stared after him and burst in to tears Both girls held each other in comfort crying
"You guys do not have home?" came a familiar voice, both girls started abruptly to face the speaker.  He had arranged all his thing in to a sack, which he slung over his shoulder. He was One of the kola kola player. Pamela could not contain her joy as she looked hopefully in to the man eyes.
"Please sir help us find a place to sleep,"cried out little children.  They went on their knees begging.
"The man turned his back on them as he conversed with his bald headed friend. After a while, the baldheaded man smiled steely and turned to face them the two miserable ones  He waved them to follow him, obediently they did.
Not sure of their destination. They  kept on walking silently like zombies alone with the man, they passed quite a number of houses and that was all. There seemed to be no more houses in sight, they were now surrounded by a thick under growth and sludge.  The journey was long, dusty and tiresome. It left the children thirsty and weary , At last, they arrived at a mud house with a thatched roof.
Inside the house, were simply two stool s and two sleeping mats , they were spider web all over the place , were it not for dejected state of, they would not have settled for such a mud house particular, when there was no other places for shelter.
Minute's later, the man return with a watery soup and over starched eba,   in order to please them and fulfil their obligation to their stomach,  poor Ego and Pamela forced the food down their gullet. After eating the food with obvious distaste, both friends fell to their respective mats relieved and slept off heavy not without a care in the world if sleep know no death.
Pamela woke up the next day and was surprised to see that her hands and Ego were tied. Before she could say a word, the bald headed man had pulled them up by their ears
"shut up" He commanded as they were about to protest.
"Dogo , be careful, they are children" called a voice behind the door, it was that of a younger man.
Silently they were pulled alone a bush path and into the thickest part of the bush .  At the realizations of the gravity of their situation, Ego screamed.
              "Help ! help!!, help!!!..."
A big fist silenced her on her cheek , delivered by Dogo . Silently Ego slumped to the ground, blood gushing out of her mouth and nostril.
"Bako , carry that child" ordered by Dogo .
Obediently  young man carried Ego over his shoulder.  Pamela dreaded Dogo  as he pushed her roughly ahead of him, she dared not alter a word.
Ahead of them, stood an old gigantic hall , with a big gate at the entrance.  As they approached as if by some mystical powers the gate opened and they were handed over to two men. Ego was still unconscious.  With out a word, Bako and Dogo left for their day business.
Pamela and Ego were thrown into a tiny room with an eerie impression of ghostly figures . Their hands were now loosed .  As she cried, loneliness and fear gripped her.
"Wake up! wake up!  Ego please wake up, do not die before me, wake up and let die together. Do not leave me alone, please wake up" sobbed Pamela as she shook Ego energetically trying to resuscitate her. Pamela bent slightly to listen to Ego heartbeat, sobbed on Ego and finally slept off on her.
With their voices having conversations woke up Pamela from sleep her stomach was filled with emptiness. She was surprised to see Ego setting in an corner of the room, red eyes mourning, Pamela clutched her stomach and rumbled.
             "My tommy oh.........oh.........."
The two men out side brought in four slice of bread and groundnuts for the children.  Pamela could not help grabbing her food hungrily.
After eating, they were led out of the room into a long hall .  Pamela had never seen an English man before so when she saw one , sitting on a sofa ahead of them, she forgot her trouble as she happily tapped Ego.
            "See white man!  she exclaimed,
Ego was not in a happy mood, she did not show any excitement but simply nodded her head. Since awakened to consciousness, she has not uttered a word. This terrified Pamela and dampened her spirit.  They went closer the white man or an albino as Pamela stared to think. He was wearing an embroiled brown lace material of Agbada.  Huge with deep set brown eyes below which was a very long and tiny nose while his jaw was also very long.  The funniest part of his , were his fingers which were like claws. He was indeed a horrible sight. The two men knelt down and at the same time spoke as if rehearsed to perfection.
