Sadie POV As I was about to enter the hospital, I spotted my mom walking towards me. A mixture of surprise and warmth washed over me as I greeted her with a smile. "Mom? What are you doing here?" I asked, curious about her sudden appearance. "I'm here to deliver this to you," she replied, handing me a paper bag. I looked inside the bag, and my face lit up with delight. "Wow, thank you, Mom!" I exclaimed, grateful for the thoughtful gesture. Inside the bag was a selection of my favorite food—a comforting reminder of home and the love that surrounded me beyond the hospital walls. It was a simple gesture, but it meant the world to me, especially during the challenging times I was facing at work. I embraced my mom in a heartfelt hug, feeling a sense of comfort and reassurance in her presence. It had been a while since we last saw each other, and her unexpected visit was a reminder of the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child. "I'm glad you like it, dear," she said, her voice filled with warmth and affection. "I love it! You always know how to make me feel better," I replied, feeling a rush of gratitude for the wonderful woman who raised me. As a nurse, my days were often filled with the intensity of the hospital environment, the pain of patients, and the emotional toll of the profession. But in that moment, with my mom standing by my side, all those worries seemed to fade away, replaced by a sense of comfort and love. We chatted for a while, catching up on each other's lives, and my mom shared stories from home. Her presence brought a sense of normalcy to my life amid the chaos of the hospital, grounding me and reminding me of the things that truly mattered. After a while, I knew it was time for me to return to my duties, but my mom's visit had lifted my spirits and given me the strength to face the challenges ahead. "Thank you for coming, Mom. Your visit means the world to me," I said, giving her another tight hug. "I'll always be here for you, Sadie. Take care, and don't forget to eat well," she said, her eyes filled with motherly concern. "I will, Mom. Love you," I replied, holding back tears of gratitude. As I watched my mom walk away, I felt a renewed sense of determination. The hospital may be my place of work, but my family was my anchor—the source of strength and love that sustained me during the most demanding times. With my mom's thoughtful gift in hand, I stepped back into the hospital, feeling ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. I knew that no matter how tough the day might be, I had the support and love of my family to lean on, and that was a gift that could not be replaced. I attended my patients and provide support for each of them, and when it's time for lunch i suddenly remember someone. Dr. Harrison. I walked towards Dr. Harrison's office, a feeling of concern and curiosity tugging at my heart. As I entered the room, I noticed that he wasn't there, only his secretary, Janet, sitting at her desk. "Hi Janet," I greeted her with a smile, though my mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Dr. Harrison. "Hello, Sadie," Janet replied warmly, glancing up from her work. "Is there something I can help you with?" "I was just looking for Dr. Harrison," I said, my voice tinged with curiosity. "Is he around?" Janet looked thoughtful for a moment before responding, "Actually, he requests for a leave" "leave? why? is he sick or something?" i asked "He's not, but his father is in critical condition so he need to stay with him" she said. My concern deepened upon hearing what he said, especially after the emotionally charged events we had experienced together. I couldn't help but wonder if everything was okay with him. "uhm can i know, where hospital does his father admitted?" i asked. "as far as i know, it was on Oakridge Villa Hospital" she said. "alright, thank you" i said "no problem Sadie" she said. As I left the office, my mind was racing with thoughts of Dr. Harrison and his father. I knew how emotionally taxing it could be to have a loved one in the hospital, especially while juggling the responsibilities of work. I'll just visit him after my work. As I resumed my duties, attending to my patients with care and compassion, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. I wanted to be there for Dr. Harrison, just as he had been there for me and countless others during the most challenging moments in the hospital. After my duty at the hospital finished, I wasted no time in preparing to visit Dr. Harrison's father, at Oakridge Villa Hospital. The concern for my colleague's family weighed heavily on my heart, and I knew that being there for him in this difficult time was essential. I quickly gathered my belongings and made my way to Oakridge Villa Hospital. The journey felt like an eternity, my mind filled with thoughts of how Dr. Harrison and his family must be coping with the situation. As I arrived at the hospital, I navigated through the hallways, finally reaching Dr. Harrison's father room. I took a deep breath before entering, bracing myself to offer support and care to a man I had never met but who was now an important figure in my colleague's life. Inside the room, I saw Dr. Harrison sitting by his father's bedside, his expression a mixture of exhaustion and concern. I approached him quietly, not wanting to intrude on the private moment, but I knew he needed to know that he wasn't alone. "Hey, Dr. Harrison," I said softly, trying to offer a comforting smile. He turned to look at me, and I could see the emotions in his eyes. "Sadie, thank you for coming," he said, his voice carrying the weight of the situation. "I'm here for you," I replied gently. "Is there anything you need? How's your father doing?" Dr. Harrison sighed, his shoulders slumping with weariness. "It's been a tough journey. His condition is still critical, and we're taking it one step at a time." I nodded, understanding that sometimes there were no easy answers when it came to matters of health. "If there's anything I can do to help or if you need someone to talk to, I'm here," I reassured him. He looked grateful for the offer, his guard slightly lowering as he allowed himself to lean on the support of a friend. "Thank you, Sadie. It means a lot." Throughout the visit, I sat with Dr. Harrison, offering a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. We shared stories about his father, his upbringing, and the memories they had created together over the years. It was an opportunity to connect on a deeper level, beyond the confines of our professional roles. "uhm if you don't mind? Where is auntie?" i asked, he sigh My heart sank as I heard the sadness in Dr. Harrison's voice. "She's gone," he whispered, confirming the painful reality. "I'm so sorry," I said softly, my voice filled with sympathy. "Losing a loved one is never easy, and I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you and your family." Dr. Harrison nodded, his eyes reflecting a mix of emotions. "It's been hard. She was everything to us, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled." I reached out and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, offering whatever solace I could in that moment. Sometimes, words felt inadequate in the face of such loss, but the support of a caring presence could be a small comfort during times of grief. "I'm here for you, Dr. Harrison," I said sincerely. "If there's anything you need or if you just need someone to talk to, please know that I'm here to listen." "Thank you, Sadie," he said, his voice slightly shaky. "I appreciate your support." As we sat together, the weight of the loss hung heavily in the air. It was a reminder of the impermanence of life and the importance of cherishing the time we had with our loved ones. In the days that followed, I continued to be there for Dr. Harrison, offering my support and understanding as he navigated through the grieving process. The hospital community also rallied around him, showing the strength of our bonds as colleagues and friends. The experience reminded me of the importance of compassion in our profession—not only for our patients but also for our colleagues who bear their own burdens of personal loss and emotional struggles. Life in the hospital was a constant ebb and flow of emotions, and as healthcare professionals, we had the unique privilege of being there for each other during both the joyful moments and the times of heartache. It was in those moments of vulnerability that the strength of our connections as a healthcare family shone brightest, offering solace and understanding when it was needed most. As the visit came to an end, I knew that this journey would be a long one for Dr. Harrison and his family. But I also knew that with the support of loved ones and friends, they would find the strength to navigate through it together. In the following days and weeks, I continued to be there for Dr. Harrison, offering my support and understanding during this challenging time. Our bond as colleagues had evolved into a genuine friendship, and I felt privileged to be able to reciprocate the care he had shown me throughout our time working together. Through the ups and downs, the uncertainties and the hope, we stood by each other, just as a strong medical team would stand by their patients. The hospital was not only a place of healing for those in need but also a place where the bonds of friendship and support were forged, reminding us of the humanity that connected us all. As time passed, I saw Dr. Harrison gradually finding ways to cope with the loss. He allowed himself to grieve, surrounded by the support of family, friends, and the close-knit hospital community. While the pain would never fully disappear, I knew that he would find the strength to move forward, honoring the memory of his aunt while continuing to make a difference in the lives of his patients.
