Episode 18
★Tina's POV★
Just like they keep giving me directions, I continue driving according to their guidance.
I'm starting to suspect that they might be using me to travel all over the city or have some other plans against me.
But I haven't reached a point where I'm extremely suspicious yet. I still believe they are genuine, mainly because of the information I received from Bethel.
When he told me about Zara being homeless and explained everything to him, it made me trust him even more.
If he hadn't met Zara, there's no way he would have known about it. So, for him to have that knowledge, he must be a very good friend to her.
"Turn right," Bethel said as I followed his directions, even though he was sitting next to me in the front seat.
He was the only one carrying David, and I could see how he was playing with him.
"Maybe you really love little kids, don't you?" I asked, and he smiled. "Yeah, I do," he replied.
"That's why I wasn't so thrilled about being the youngest in my family because I love kids a lot," he added, looking away from David and making eye contact with me.
"You know, when I was around 10 to 12 years old, I had an extraordinary love for babies. Whenever my mother's friends visited with their babies, they knew there would be an interesting time," he said while I stared at him, somewhat captivated.
He loves babies, and yet if someone with a baby comes to him, there will be a problem? But wait, doesn't that sound contradictory to his love for babies?
"I'm sorry, I know you're confused, right?" he said, noticing my attempt to understand what he meant.
"When I say there will be a problem, it means I become so attached to the baby that it's difficult for me to let go. I take care of the baby myself until they are ready to leave," he explained, taking a deep breath and glancing back at David.
"That's where the issue arises because I never want to part with the baby, and if I'm forced to do so, I'll cry uncontrollably for a long time," he continued, and I smiled and nodded in understanding.
"Wow, that's incredibly sweet of you," I remarked, and he grinned in response. "You know, sometimes, before I was ready to let go, they would have to provide me with another baby," he added, leaving me in shock.
"Seriously?" I reacted, and he nodded. "It was all because of me. My parents wanted to have another baby, but my mom said no," he revealed.
"And why did she say no?" I inquired. "Because she wasn't ready to go through the pain of childbirth again," he replied, causing me to fall into silence as I acknowledged the truth in his words.
The pain women endure during childbirth is extraordinary but ultimately a blessing.
"Please take a left," a voice sounded from the back, catching my attention as I turned to look at them before making the turn.
I couldn't see any signs of happiness or excitement from these ones sitting at the back. They seemed weary of this journey already, so I turned to Bethel and inquired.
"Have we not reached the place yet?" I asked, slowing down the car. He stood up and looked ahead as if he wasn't familiar with this area.
His reaction intrigued me... "Oh, we're getting close. Just a few more turns from here, and we'll arrive at our destination," he replied, causing me to glance at him.
"Our destination, or is it your house? I thought you said she's at your house, and that's why your friends are following you," I questioned, and he nodded.
"Well, yeah, whether it's my house or not, it's still our destination. We're all hoping to get there," he stated, to which I shrugged my shoulders.
"Whatever," I responded, and he continued to look at me. "What?" I asked, and he laughed.
"Why did you act like there's something different about it?" he inquired. "Because there is," I replied, and he looked at me suspiciously.
"And what's this 'something different'?" he asked, and I took a deep breath. "My friend, the person we're going to see, is the 'something different'," I explained, and he kept his gaze on me for a few seconds.
"Oh, I see. Okay, yeah, you're right," he said, finally pointing towards the house painted and constructed in white, which I could easily describe as a white house.
The house appeared to have had a significant investment, and as I looked at it, I glanced at Bethel once again.
I was certain that the house belonged to his parents. A young man like him wouldn't have the means to afford such a house unless it was inherited wealth.
As we approached the house and I continued to observe it, I turned to him once more, realizing how I was staring at him.
"What?" he asked. "Well, nothing in particular, but I must say, that's your parents' house, right?" I asked, to which he smiled and shook his head.
"And what makes you think so?" he asked, and I smirked. By that time, we had already arrived at the compound, so I slowly brought the car to a halt.
One by one, everyone inside the car started getting out, and I placed my hands on the steering wheel. "Come on, where did you get such a large sum of money?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders and stepped out of my car.
"Well, welcome aboard," he said, extending his hand. I was genuinely amazed that a young man like him had that kind of wealth.
"Wow, you're really doing great," I complimented as I got out of the car and stood by his side. "Thank you," he replied, and I nodded. "You're welcome," I responded.
"I'm sure my friend must have been thrilled to spend the night here," I added, to which he chuckled smoothly.
"Definitely, anyone coming here for the first time is always amazed, and you will be too," he assured me. I moved closer to him and looked directly into his eyes.
"Well, I can't wait to be amazed," I said, and he took hold of my hand with his left hand.
"Let's go see your friend then," he suggested. I smiled, and we all walked inside.
I could tell that he still loved babies very much, just like when he was younger, by the way he held onto my brother David.
Entering the house was truly an incredible experience. The furniture and interiors were top-notch, and I was almost mesmerized as I followed them in.
"Here you are, have a seat," he said when we reached their living room. "Thank you," I replied, quietly taking a seat while still gazing around in awe.
"Would you like a drink? What can I offer you?" he offered. I loved everything about this place, and I knew I could request anything, but I was the type of person who knew how to manage expectations.
"Oh, thank you very much, but I think the only thing you need to offer me is my friend Zara. We need to leave now as we have a lot of things to sort out," I politely responded. He nodded, while the others just sat there, looking at me intently.
"Oh, that? Don't worry, you stay here while I go get her for you," he said. I was expecting him to give me David first before leaving, but he tried to leave with him and I stopped him.
"Hey...!" I said as he stopped and looked at me. "What...?" he asked, and I exhaled heavily.
"Come on, baby," I said with a smile. I understood that he still loved babies, and that's why he forgot to give him back to me.
"Oh... pardon me, I forgot," he said, and I smiled. "That means the love for babies still hasn't left you, you know?" I said, winking my left eye.
"Exactly why I can't let go of this one. Don't worry, he will be okay with me. Let me call your friend for you," he said, attempting to take my brother along.
But I have tolerated everything from him. What I will not tolerate is this. I trust no one when it comes to my brother.
I mean, why can't he just give me my brother and go? What's wrong with him?
So as he was about to leave with him, I stopped him. "I'm sorry," I said, still stopping him from walking away. But I didn't say it with a harsh voice; I said it with a smile instead.
"But I insist that you keep him with me while you go call my friend, no offense, sir," I replied. He stepped closer to my face and handed me a card with three symbols that I didn't understand.
"Really?" he asked, and I nodded. "Yeah, please," I said as he turned and looked at the others.
"Guys, tell her what happened to her friend," he ordered, and they all stared at me.
"What!!!" I screamed in fear as I backed away, noticing that all their eyes had turned dark. I started breathing heavily as Bethel then turned and looked at me.
And his own eyes were burning with fire, and my heart began to beat heavily. I knew that I had finally gotten myself and my brother into trouble.
"Your friend is dead, and do you want that to happen to you too!?" he asked with a dark and deep voice...Download Novelah App
