When Yun Xi came in with Xiao Hui, she realized that the situation was back to normal. Also, the kid and his parents were missing from the banquet. "Maybe they were thrown out," Yun Xi thought.
Yun Xi signaled something at Mo Shan with her eyes. Taking her signal, Mo Shan cleared his throat. "Ladies and gentlemen," he gathered everyone near. "I request everyone's attention for a while. As a host, I apologize for the slight mishap just a while ago. Everything is solved. Let's forget about it with the cake cutting."
Guests applauded at his announcement and gathered near the center. Mo Sheng brought the cake from the kitchen, which Yun Xi and Xiao Hui had baked before. Xiao Hui was finally looking happy seeing the sight of the cake.
He was even more excited by the fact that it was his first birthday with Yun Xi. He excitedly clapped his hands seeing the cake which be personally baked with the help of his mother.
Yun Xi stopped Xiao Hui when he was about to blow the candles. “Xiao Hui, make a wish first before you blow the candles.”
Xiao Hui questioned Yun Xi, looking confused, “Why, Mommy? Does my wish come true?”
Yun Xi warmly smiled at him and patted his head, “Of course, they do. Just try it and see.”
Xiao Hui's eyes glittered just like gold, and he wished, “I wish my mommy will always be with me and love me the most.”
Yun Xi had actually meant to wish in silence, but Xiao Hui misunderstood her and narrated his wish loudly. Everyone laughed hearing his wish. But Yun Xi had tears in her eyes.
She crouched down and hugged him tightly. “You do not wish like this. You close your eyes and whisper to yourself. But don’t worry. Consider that this wish of yours is fulfilled. No matter what happens, you will always be mommy's favorite.”
“En,” Xiao Hui hugged her back tightly. He was happy and also very glad to have Yun Xi.
Mother Mo looked at them with tears in her eyes. Father Mo rubbed her back to console her.
Mo Shan went forward and spoke to his son, “Come on now. It’s time to cut the cake. You can spend time with your mother later.”
Amidst everyone’s clap, Xiao Hui cut the cake and brought it to Yun Xi. “First bit for Mommy. Say ‘Ahhh'.” Just like this, he successfully fed the first bite to Yun Xi. After that, he fed it to other family members. Mother Mo ordered a maid to distribute cake to all the guests.
After they were done with the cake, everyone sat for dinner. But except for the Ji Family, no one else got to seat at the main table with the Mo family.
At the birthday banquet, every guest was made clear of one thing. And that was – Yun Xi wasn’t an ordinary girl. She was the heart of the Mo Family now. Not only, Mo Shan and Xiao Hui, but even Old Master Mo was also very fond of her. So from now on, no one would dare to get on the bad side of Yun Xi.
Just as they were about to eat, a voice sounded, “Grandpa.” The voice belonged to a girl.
Everyone looked towards the sound including Yun Xi. Few meters away from them, she saw a girl smiling, who seemed to be in her mid-twenties.
“Linda,” Yun Xi heard Old Master Mo addressing the girl as Linda.
Yun Xi wondered, “Linda? Who is she? I have never heard of Mo Shan having a sister. Is she his relative or cousin?”
The girl named Linda walked to Old Master Mo and bowed at him, “How are you, Grandpa?”
Old Master Mo smiled gently at her and asked, “I am fine. Has the problem been solved at your house?”
“Thanks to grandpa, everything has been resolved.”
Saying that she greeted other Mo family members. Finally, her eyes came to rest at Yun Xi. Linda looked at Old Master Mo confused, “Grandpa, this is?”
Old Master Mo heartily introduced Yun Xi to her, “This is Yun Xi. Mo Shan's wife, and Mo family’s daughter-in-law.”
Linda's smile faltered for a second hearing that. Everybody missed her expression, except Yun Xi.
Yun Xi quickly caught the change in her expression. But before she could make sure, Linda was quick to hide it. The smile returned to Linda's face and spoke, “Oh, I didn’t know Mr. Mo got married. Congratulations!”
Old Master Mo laughed, “They married just recently. We didn’t announce it to anyone, so no one knew about it. I didn’t want anyone to eye my daughter-in-law.” He said looking at Elder Ji haughtily.
In return, Elder Ji harrumphed. “Hmph, you just got lucky.”
Old Master Mo chuckled at his jealous words, “Yeah, the luck that you didn’t have.”
Everyone at the table tried to stifle their laughter listening to their bickering. Even at such old age, they were still fighting like children.
After they were done bickering, Old Master Mo told Linda to take a seat and have dinner with them.
“Let me see if anyone needs help in the kitchen for now. I will come and eat after that, Grandpa.” Saying this, she walked to the kitchen.
When she reached the kitchen and saw no one there, she finally revealed her true facade. Her fists clenched, and her face crunched at the thought of Mo Shan being married. She nearly couldn’t control herself earlier.
Opening the fridge, Linda took out a bottle of cold water and gulped the entire content in one go to cool down. She took a deep breath to calm herself before going outside.
But just as she turned around, she saw Yun Xi standing under the door.
Just a while ago:
“Mommy, juice!" Xiao Hui exclaimed.
Yun Xi looked at his glass and found ut empty. “You want more?” she asked Xiao Hui.
The little guy nodded his head. Yun Xi searched the table and found that the juice Xiao Hui wanted was already finished. And remaining were left in the kitchen.
Mo Shan was about to call a maid to get juice for Xiao Hui, but Yun Xi stopped him. “It’s okay. They are busy. Let me go and get it.”
So, she stood up and walked to the kitchen to get juice for Xiao Hui. Just as she reached there, she came face to face with Linda. Yun Xi thought that something was off with this girl but couldn’t pinpoint it.
Deciding to ignore her, Yun Xi walked past Linda to get juice from the fridge. Just as she was about to open it, Linda spoke from behind.
“You must be feeling happy by marrying Mr. Mo, right? By the way, I have never heard of you before. Which family are you from, Miss Yun Xi?” came her taunting voice.
Yun Xi's hand froze for a second. She then calmly took out the juice and also replied, “I am an orphan, Linda. I have no family. And yes, I am happy and thankful that I got Mr. Mo as my husband. And who wouldn’t be, right? He is the person whom every girl wants to marry. And, I was lucky enough to be that girl.”
She closed the fridge and turned to face Linda. Yun Xi raised her eyebrows at her and smirked, “If you were to marry Mr. Mo in my stead, wouldn’t you have been happy, Miss Linda?”
Linda knew that Yun Xi was taunting her. She glared at Yun Xi.
“You...” She was about to say something when a voice sounded from behind her. “What’s happening here?” came Mo Shan’s voice.
Realizing that it was Mo Shan, Linda shut her mouth and returned to her innocent look. She was about to say something when Yun Xi cut her words.
“It’s nothing,” came Yun Xi’s voice. “Since we met for the first time, we were just introducing each other. Isn’t it, Linda?”
Linda could only bite back her words and go along with Yun Xi. She nodded her head feeling reluctant.
Mo Shan narrowed his eyes feeling something off with the atmosphere. But he didn’t inquire much about it and went along with them. He walked to Yun Xi and took juice from her hand. “Let’s go,” he told her and took her hand in his. Yun Xi nodded at him and followed him outside.
Before going out, Yun Xi didn’t forget to turn to look at Linda. She found her glaring at looking at her as if she was going to break her neck the next second. She just smiled at Linda, provoking her more.
After they left, Linda stomped her feet in anger.
Yun Xi took a seat at the main table as if nothing happened. She also pouted the juice for Xiao Hui.
After few minutes, Linda arrived there too and took a seat at the end of the table.
The whole family enjoyed dinner in silence.
After everyone was done, guests started leaving. Elder Ji also bade farewell. Before leaving, he didn’t forget to chat a little more with Yun Xi. “Xiao Xi, if Mo Shan and his family ever bully you, come straight to me. I will deal with them. You have my full support in everything.”
“Thank you, Grandpa Ji,” Yun Xi thanked him from the bottom of her heart. She was extremely glad that such a formidable figure like Elder Ji liked her.
What they didn’t know was that Old Master Mo was listening to them in silence. When he heard Elder Ji's words, he chided, “Hey, Old man. Don’t play dirty here. Why would she look for you when I am still here? You don’t have to care about my daughter-in-law. I am still well and alive to whack anyone who bullies her.”
Elder Ji pretended as if he heard nothing and completely ignored his best friend. “Let’s go,” Elder Ji told his grandson and left from there.
From behind, he could hear Old Master Mo fuming aloud. “Look at him ignoring me. Hmph!”
Elder Ji laughed when he heard his best friend’s words. He shook his head remembering their childish bantering from earlier.
