Leo was pretty much out of ideas for a lie to tell, and Logan? His brain was running fast and he was looking for a lie that she would buy and that wouldn’t embarrass him too much. After waiting but not getting any response from both boys, Mrs. Hale went on with her complaints.

“I don’t have any idea what happened to both of you, but I can tell something fishy is going on.” She implied and leaned closer with her elbows resting on the table, “So I’m asking for an explanation from both of you.” She said. Leo’s expression didn’t change and he instead was waiting for Logan to come up with an idea while he would just play along. He looked at his partner and the other side gave him a look that said it all… ‘I have no idea what to say.’

“Umm…” Leo took the initiative to speak, “I was just too angry at the time and I broke down… emotionally.” Leo revealed. His words weren’t the truth… but they couldn’t be considered a lie either.

Mrs. Hale shot him a confused glance, “Too angry that you broke down?! When did you become such a wimp?” She asked. Leo bowed his head and gave a sad face like he was wronged. Logan wanted to speak but Mrs. Hale did the work for him.

“Look, Leo, we have an upcoming tournament, and I ain’t aiming for this school to be the second or third position. I’m aiming for the top, and to do that we need to be able to defeat the top two schools, Brighton Academy and Royalty High.” She scolded and turned to Logan.

“You, Logan…” she said angrily, “Should be the backbone of the team. You’re the one who’s meant to be the leader and would direct all the players to the right place at the right time.” She said and faced Leo.

“And you, Leo, should be the team’s arrowhead. Quincy is trying his very best to match you, and as much as I hate to admit it, you’re much stronger and faster than he is. He’s got a long way from catching up to you. But you seem to be having emotional problems?” Mrs. Hale scolded. Her tone was getting even harsher by the moment. Her annoyance had reached its peak. Leo could sense that she was very angry so he tried to apologize.

“I’m sorry Mrs. Hale. I promise you it won’t happen.” Leo apologized.

“Oh, you’re damn right it won’t.” She uttered angrily as she rose from her chair, “I’m kicking you both out of the team.” Her statement caused Leo and Logan so much surprise that their mouths opened agape. They couldn’t hold in their shock so they displayed their astonishment with an exclamation.

“WHAT?!” They both yelled in unison. Logan especially was stunned.

“But why? We did well and with both of us on the team, Elian Comprehensive has a great chance of winning the competition. Taking us off the team will only ruin those chances.” Logan argued but he was met by the ferocious tone of the angry lady.

“Do you think I don’t know that? Of course, I do. However, I cannot sit and watch you two jeopardize the team of this school.” She said. Leo sighed.

“Kicking us off the team won’t give you a chance at all. You’ll only make things worse.” Leo commented. Mrs. Hale glared at him but the latter kept a solemn look.

“I don’t care anymore. You guys are off the team. Go do whatever you want, I don’t give a damn anymore.” She said. Leo who had a solemn look on his face suddenly put on a determined one.

“No!” He muttered, “We’re not leaving this team. Not after all the training we’ve done. All the sweat we’ve broken. We’ve worked so hard to reach this stage, and we’re not backing down.” Leo said and he walked closer to Mrs. Hale, he was so close that Mrs. Hale could feel his hot breath on her face, “I will see this through to the end. Until the tournament is over, I ain’t leaving.” He declared before leaving the office. Logan was surprised as to where Leo got that confidence from.

“Um… I think I’ll go talk to him.” Logan excused himself before leaving and running after Leo. Mrs. Hale stood in front of her desk, stunned and flabbergasted. Her mind was blank and she couldn’t believe that Leo just went against her orders.

After standing for a minute stunned her soothing red lips suddenly curled up and revealed a beautiful smile. She was happy that Leo had disagreed with her decision.

“I was so angry that I couldn’t make the right decision. And instead, he made it for me… Tsk.” She scoffed as she muttered to herself.

“That boy is getting ballsier by the day. Well, that’s why I like him.” She said with a laugh. If Leo was there, he would be extremely shocked.

Meanwhile, Logan ran after Leo and called out to him.

“Dude, Wait up.” He called. Leo slowed his walking pace and allowed Logan to catch up to him. The latter walked to his front and gave him a light punch on the shoulder.

“What was that about? You could’ve gotten detention for that you know.” He said. Leo raised his brows and smiled slightly.

“But I didn’t. Don’t worry man, I’ve got this under control.” He said and turned to leave. Logan looked at him with a bit of surprise and frustration. He noticed Leo walking towards the class and followed him. They took their seats and then Quincy walked towards them both.

I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation with my mum. Is anything wrong? I remember her being so pissed yesterday that she was super calm. So calm that it was dangerous.” He asked. Logan and Leo looked each other in the eyes and the same thought ran through their heads.

“Who the hell gets calm when they’re angry?” Logan asked. Leo shrugged.

“Beats me.” He said and faced Quincy, “Don’t worry bro. It’s fine. As a matter of fact, things are getting heated.” He said with a smile on his face. Logan gave Leo a side-eye.

“What do you mean heated?” He asked. Leo ignored him and went towards his seat.
