The Unsettling Challenge.
The match finally came to an end, with Elian Comprehensive high emerging victorious with 73 points while Sky Hills high had 19 points. Alexander was so shaken that he dropped to the ground on his knees when the game ended. They already lost their will to win on the third quarter. All they just wanted to do was to not make the distance in their scores not too wide, so as not to get too embarrassed.
Even then, after playing basketball for three years, he has never seen a team with this much understanding and cohesion between them. Their teamwork was just to tight, and their methods were extraordinary. Logan and his team cheered for themselves as they were happy that they won. Well, Leo and the remaining third year students weren’t all too excited, and they maintained their cool head.
According to Mrs. Hale, Elian Comprehensive would have no problem against the school’s like Sky Hills High, Bennighton Academy, and St. Peter’s High school, as their team was much more stronger. Even if things were about to turn south, they had three aces, Logan, Quincy, and Leo. Only two schools might pose a threat to them, Brighton Academy and Royalty High school.
After their match ended, Bennighton Academy and St. Peter’s High had their match, with the former winning the match with 56 points, while the latter scored 52 points. It was a very close call for Bennighton High.
After the two matches ended for the day, the players went back to the school and had a little celebration. Tyler bought a packet of soda which everyone used to celebrate.
“Haaa. I’ll get a good night sleep after this match.” Eddie yawned and gulped his canned drink. Tyler scoffed and shot him an unamused look.
“You’re always tired...” he complained and turned his face to the side, “You played well though.” He commented. Eddie smirked as he looked at Tyler, who’s cheeks and ears were red.
“Aww. So you did like the way I played. I see.” He said. Tyler’s face got tense all of a sudden.
“D-D-Don’t get too full of yourself. I... uh... just like that long shot you made after all.” He stuttered with red cheeks. Leo and Logan smiled as they watched the two boys have their small arguement.
They all enjoyed the moment until Mrs. Hale stopped them.
“This is just your first match, you’ve still got four more matches left, with two extremely tough guys on the field. Don’t get full of yourselves.” She said. She slightly spoilt the mood of the enjoyment, but that still didn’t spoil the event too much. Mrs. Hale continued with her explanation.
“Your next match is in two days time, and you’ll be playing with St. Peter’s High. In the mean time, you guys are gonna go through rigorous training.” She said, finally destroying the mood.
“Ugghhh.” All the boys groaned in unison. Now, they all wanted to get as much rest and food as they could before training begins. Mrs. Hale’s training to them, was no different from torture. Although, it is what made them strong, it was too strenuous.
“Also, we’ll be watching Brighton academy’s match tomorrow. They’ll be going against Sky Hills high school.” She informed. Leo stroked his slightly growing beards lightly as he pondered.
“Given that we defeated them without any problems, I don’t think Brighton Academy will have a hard time defeating them. After all, they’re pretty strong.” He suggested.
“I agree.” Logan added. Mrs. Hale sighed.
“Well, I don’t care if they win or lose. I just hope that Sky Hills high can be strong enough to make them reveal a trump card.” Mrs. Hale uttered. Logan chuckled before looking her in the eyes.
“Don’t worry. I trust that Alex will definitely draw Oscar out.” He commented. Mrs. Hale gave a surprised look while Leo smiled. They discussed how their next day was going to go before they all headed home.
On the side walk of the busy city, Leo and Logan walked closely together while there was silence between them. Logan took a few glances at his friend and broke the silence.
“I heard about what happened...” he claimed. Leo was a bit at loss for what he meant, so he instinctively asked again.
“Pardon?”
“I said I heard about what happened. How your aunt saw you with injuries and when you were training. With what I know, there’s no way you suffered those injuries from falling repeatedly while training.” Logan assessed. Leo’s face turned solemn when he heard the latter talk.
“Tell me... What really happened?” Logan pushed. Leo frowned and clenched his fists.
“I had a duel with Mr. Zack.” He blurted. Logan’s eyes got wide open that instant.
“He what!?” he yelled.
“It was my fault. He wanted to have a basketball game with me but I refused. That was why it became a brawl.” Leo took the blame for himself. He knew Logan all too well? The latter would take it serious and he would dig out evidence just to get revenge.
“What?! That’s no excuse for him to beat you up...”
“Just let it be, Logan. I can always heal if I get wounded.” Leo said, trying to calm Logan down. Logan’s face was irritable, but after Leo prompted him, he had to sigh and put the matter away. Their journey home became solemn.
In a certain basketball court, a tall silhouette stood in front of a hoop with a basketball in one hand and he pocketed the other. He was wearing a tracksuit, and had red hair. His face was void of any expression, and his eyes were closed as he stood almost motionless. If it weren’t for his clothes and skin, one would have him mistaken for a statue.
The boy suddenly felt a presence behind him.
“To what do I owe the honor of your visit... master?” The boy asked with a smooth voice and opened his eyes slowly but didn’t budge.
“I knew I’d find you here.” A deep and mature voice echoed from behind him. It came from a tall and muscular man with smooth black hair sitting on a bench in the court. “Please, it’s been long since that happened. Spare me the honorifics.” The man waved his hands and smiled.
“I just happen to need a favor from you...” The man continued. The boy sighed.
“My old master asking me for a favor, must be something serious.” The boys uttered.
“Yeah. It is.” The man spoke before looking to his right and observing the various vehicles passing by, “There’s a certain person I want you to handle. He’s a strong opponent, and you will definitely face off against him.” The man enumerated. The boy’s face formed a little frown
“What about your current student?”
“Oh, he’s too... impatient. He’s not fit for the job. Besides, you’re stronger then he is.” The man remarked, making the boy scoff.
“Hmmm. So who’s this guy that you want me to teach a lesson?” The boy looked back at the man and noticed his features. The man had been Mr. Zack.
