Homepage/The Crimson Phoenix Dragon/
A comeback but ends in defeat.
The whistle for the third quarter blared and the game began. Throughout the game, Tyler and Jackson had been the ones giving them threats and pressuring them. So it would be normal if the players of Sky Hills high put more effort into restraining these two players. However, they didn't do that.
Logan ran towards the hoop and suddenly stopped to give instructions to his teammates, however, he got double-teamed by Harris and Luke. Tyler who had the ball pushed forward and passed to Jackson, who was about to receive the ball but it got stolen by Callum.
The latter smiled as he passed Jackson by while performing high bounces as he rushed to the opponent’s hoop. Collins stopped him but the latter had the advantage in speed and agility. Collins was a center, but he wasn’t exactly a weak one. Instead, his agility was just lacking a bit. His strength though, could match that of Alexander.
Callum did a crossover dribble and Collins fell for it. Going past Elian Comprehensive high’s line of defense, Callum was able to score an alley loop for his team. Although Elian Comprehensive were still far ahead, twenty minutes was enough for them to catch up. After this, Callum gave his teammates a high five as he moved back to his side of the court.
Collins grit his teeth as he was annoyed at himself for getting tricked like that. Logan walked to his team’s half of the court and gave his teammates a word of encouragement.
“Don’t sweat it guys. This is just one basket for them. We’ll get them next time.” He said. The rest of the team nodded and didn’t waste time to resume play. This time, Jackson had the ball and the latter pushed forward before passing to Logan who slapped the ball to Tyler. The latter caught it and while Callum was about to approach him, his instincts told him to do a fake and confuse Callum, but he suddenly shoved the thought at the back of his mind and looked at Logan, wanting to receive orders from him.
Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t see Logan clearly. He was obstructed by Callum and Logan himself was double-teamed, making things even harder for him.
‘F*ck! I can’t see the captain. Guess I’ll have to make the decision myself.’ He thought while he stared at Callum in front of him. The latter seemed to be smiling maliciously, and it gave him the creeps. Tyler didn’t waste time and took a step back quickly. He was so fast that Callum couldn’t catch up. Instead, his body hesitated and this was the opening that Tyler needed to get past him.
Without wasting time, Tyler went past him while Callum’s body was still hesitant on whether to go front or go after Tyler. It all happened too fast that Callum was already too late. This was a skill which Leo taught Tyler. With super speed, Leo was able to simulate lots of moves and after perfecting it with his speed, he would repractice it without using his powers and once perfected, he’ll teach his teammates.
The move would only work on an opponent once, as the next time, the same opponent won’t be surprised to see it. The trick behind it was that when a game reaches a heightened stage, the players become tense. Due to this, their bodies tend to disobey their brains swiftly at times. During the time Callum hesitated, his eyes could see Tyler’s movement but it took his brain a while to process it due to the speed. Meanwhile, his body moved forward to close the sudden distance but Tyler had already left the position to move to the right. It took his brain a while to adapt to that and his body couldn’t move on its own this time, as it would seem like his brain was just regaining control.
In better cases, it would work against an opponent twice. Tyler was able to move past Callum but he had to meet up with Micheal. Just as he was pondering on what to do, Alexander still the ball from him and passed to Harris who pushed forward while bouncing the ball. Logan noticed the sudden change of game and he was under pressure. He quickly made calculations with his brain as much as possible, and he came up with a quick solution.
He moved to Collin’s line of sight and was about to do his hand signs again to give instructions only for Alexander to suddenly block his view, while facing the hoop. Logan cursed under his breath and tried to get past Alexander but he couldn’t.
Leo from the sidelines, felt that something was wrong. He had been observing Sky Hills’ gameplay since the start of the match and he didn’t miss anything.
“It seems like they’ve uncovered the secret to our team’s good cohesion... and they figured out a very good way to counter it.” He muttered but Mrs. Hale heard him clearly.
“You’re right. We need a timeout.” She uttered and waited for the right time to call a timeout.
On the court, although Logan was unable to give instructions, his team reacted to what was given to them and Collins went to the hoop to perform his work as the center. The ball was with Luke, who Tyler was currently having a one on one with near the hoop, trying to get the ball away from him. Michael was on standby for his team while Eddie too put himself on standby. As for Jackson... where is Jackson?
While Tyler didn’t give Luke any way to make a shot, he decided to pass to the sure-shooter of their team, Michael. The latter caught the ball and looked for an opportunity to make a shot, but his opponent was Eddie. As calm and tired as he might seem, you do not want him being your opponent. Michael bounced repeatedly as he was still in the middle of making plans on how to make the shot. However, je suddenly noticed that the ball went down, but never came back up.
He was a bit stunned as he looked at his right hand which he used to bounce but couldn't find the ball there or anywhere near him. Jackson emerged from nowhere and stole the ball from him without alerting him at all.
“How...” Michael was too shocked to believe it and nobody saw him coming. Not even Eddie, who was blocking him. Jackson grabbed the ball and launched himself towards the opponent hoop. Alexander and his team panicked and they dashed forward too. Eddie on the other hand, stood deep rooted where he was.
Jackson was so close to the hoop and he made a jump to dunk. While Alexander and his teammates were in a bit of despair after thinking thag that Jackson would score, but what the latter did shocked them all, even Leo.
Instead of Jackson dunking, he threw the ball far backwards, shocking every single person on the field. Everyone watched the ball on the air, going towards the other end of the court.
“What the hell...” the commentator exclaimed. The ball suddenly landed on someone’s hand.
“Ugh. That boy likes to make a scene.” Eddie grunted as he jumped to catch the ball with both his hands before bending his legs again. There was nobody near him and he was left alone on the other half of the field, while all the other players were near the Sky Hills high’s hoop.
He looked up and did a quick calculation in his head before jumping slightly and throwing the ball at a very high elevation. If Alexander and his team were crying before when Jackson was about to score, then they would be giving up now, because the ball being with Eddie, spells doom for their team.
BONK!
The ball went straight into the hoop without even touching the rim, and Elian Comprehensive high scored yet another three pointer. Callum shuddered and wondered why his plan didn’t work. He slowly turned his head towards Logan and the latter smiled at him.
“Even without my command, my team still know how to counter you guys. So I’ll advise you to just... give up. Hahaha.” Logan blurted with a laugh and the rest of his teammates did the same. Alexander and his team were almost traumatized when they saw these people laughing and they turned to look at the far away Eddie who was yawning heavily, like someone who was uninterested. At this point, their will to win this game had been murdered.Download Novelah App
