Chapter 24: House Krul

It's morning and three of the knights I chose yesterday seem to have freshened up. I'm glad they took some good rest and didn't look like ghosts. Henceforth, Sir Adrian had prepared the carriage but I insisted on using a horse, this way, it will be easier and far faster than waiting for the carriage to move.

He tried to argue with me about being a lady and all but I won regardless, he tried to tell me that I shouldn't be acting like an indifferent child but that didn't get me, so now, here we are entering the town after we rushed in.

[Casva Harbor] near a port where ships lay down, this is a place that Count Krul had protected from pirates that once took over the Casva Town and his villa near the end of the mountains which is connected between the town and its bridge right through the lake.

Bandites had usually raid this town when House Krul is on guard, but they use pirates as bait to raid nearby houses and shops to avoid those of town guards patrolling the area.

Basically because the bandites of Three Legged Organization are active nearby, the town is unable to feel at ease and because the town has no protective walls around, bandites and monsters have attacked this town for nearly 10 years.

House Krul had their own villa in the capital, mostly because House Krul is part of our vassal and one of the division knights, they can't always protect the town because most of the lords and ladies are in the capital.

We asked various people about the Krul Family and everyone gladly said the same praises. "They are good people, " or so I thought, most of those that answer are those that have the eye of a liar and those that fear something that is why they have to lie.

Others will probably ignore us as if we are not allowed to ask. In case, I went to a nearby library to find information but the librarian kicked me out without knowing my identity, and I was humiliated actively.

I am not mad, yet I'm doubtful. There's something going on, and my guts are killing me to investigate my bad feeling, so I asked Sir Adrian if we can visit places for gossip, like taverns where rumors travel fast and gossip is what we need.

    Now, we are here.

"Milady, taverns are where adventurers, merchants, traders, and travelers come from various places, we can find information here by being quiet. "

Sir Eclise explain and so I nodded.

"Keep out for information about what's going on, don't let them intimidate you when you feel like it, keep a low profile, " I said, tightening the grip on my cloak hiding my appearance inside of it before I gripped my fingers.

"Yes, milady, " they nodded, understanding my command and they bowed.

We use cloaks to hide our identity, and since these three wear the knight armor of our family, I need to cover it up by wearing a cloak, this way, we can keep a low profile.

We enter the tavern and the inside was a messy place for a bar, the counter is at the isle beside checkboards and darts area, there are various different tables and chairs everywhere but it's been occupied by many customers, might as be musculars, looks like an old man or people with strong appearances of someone who was build as an wood cutter or fishermen.

We passed through this dark shabby tavern with the gaze of crowds of all men looking at us with a killing intent, telling us 'who are you? ' or 'what does a kid need here?' something like that.

It's not a welcoming environment but I am used to it anyway. Those glares can't pierce me, because I can be more frightening than them. So I just walked past them, reaching myself to an inch tall chair that I would hardly reach if not for Sir Adrian lifting me up.

    Jeez, I'm so small...

"Thank you, " I mumbled and fixed myself from sitting on this chair that is much the same height as me.

"Sir, how can we help you? " There's this bartender in front who looked at me but instead of asking me, he shrugged and asked Sir Adrian instead, I found myself frustrated from that encounter and suddenly clicked my tongue.

"Three beers for us, make it lighter, " Sir Adrian answered and I felt my eyes widen.

    Beer!!???

God, I want some, I miss drinking a sip of that thing. Although I drank almost a barrel of beer in my former life, before meeting Iris, it's still unbearable to avoid drinking at this state and I feel like I'll gulp from it.

Damn it... I clinged my fist and looked elsewhere trying not to tear up from frustration...

"What of the... Lady? " The bartender asked and I looked at Sir Adrian.

Yes, it's my time to shine...

    "Bee---"

"Milk, " my head spins when he says that... I feel like I've drowned two barrels of liquid foundation that my mind wants to blow up, Sir Adrian looked at me and I looked at him.

    "Why yo----"

"Young lady likes milk a lot, give her one more, " I was cutted again, then he smiled as if I felt like being mocked.

I looked at the bartender... "I like bee---"

"Three milk then!" The bartender, did he just stop me?

I... What the.... What the hell!!!

I marched myself up with a face that was about to cry and look at him. "One! One milk is enough..... " and I was forced to drink a milk that I always wish to turn into a beer.

Sir Adrian looked as if he was satisfied while I was looking at them unbelievably frustrated while biting my lip.

This is his revenge I see. I beat him up so easily when we were at the residence, he thought it might be a good idea to tease me by cutting everything I say.

Haha don't worry, I'll get back to you soon.

Was what I said before giving up the hope of drinking a beer.

The bartender reached me out a cup of milk while giving these three bastards a three bottle of beer, and I just shrugged my head, biting my lips and sighing.

Some moments later after waiting. Many more customers had joined us inside, I don't know much because I was just busy looking at the milk that I drank slowly but I can tell that some are female.

At least not all of them are men, this is better.

A few seconds had passed and we didn't hear any useful information, we were about to leave and look elsewhere when a big man punched the table and screamed in exclamation.

    "That bastard Krul!! "

I looked at Sir Adrian and we nodded properly as a sign to listen while both Saint and Eclise stopped talking to each other.

"Shhh, calm down, if they hear us, we will lose our lives! "

It seems that my guts are real. Something ain't right, definitely, something is wrong here.

"Ah! We have lost our lives the moment that bastard joins forces with the bandits! Don't make me laugh, he's been exploiting all of us! "

    "This must stop! "

"Shhh, if you wanna die, then die alone, we won't get interfered by this! We cannot do anything, he had taken the Count! "

My ears are starting to get interested. Who are they even referring to? What does House Krul associate themselves with criminals? That's so absurd but it's possible since I have never known about them, or who they are.

Exploitation? That's... A crime for labor... That would be a crime to the imperial law, which means, it's one of the drastic crimes that death is the punishment for. This is unpredictable but if these people are being exploited, and don't mention about the condition of this town, this is getting suspicious.

"This is ridiculous, if we can rebel against him and ask Duke Brandis, he may help us! "

This man is surely dedicated. It seems that the problem is bigger than I thought, no wonder this town is filled with fewer knights than how a normal village can afford to have. They look so weak, and simple, what a shame.

"Noo! We are better just to obey them than lose our lives, you mustn't speak of this freely if you precious your life! "

The argument didn't stop... It continued from who to who and they freely shared so much information about what was happening.

To sum it up. House Krul had fallen, when the former count lost his arms and he had to protect his wife, his brother [Martine Krul] had rebelled against him by poisoning his wife to control him and by cutting his left arms to satisfy himself.

The wife was comatose and only one antidote is given to her for she may be able to wake up, but the antidote was used as a threatening item to the former count, Martine who was branded genius used this to take the count for himself.

He associates himself to the bandites ruining his town by exploiting ladies inside the town just for a sum of gold to buy his mistress things they like.

While using House Krul to protect those bandites operation from inside the empire. No wonder, my father has not yet heard of the news, and why of course he threatened the whole town about the secrets underneath the exploitation defense.

Such shame moreover, Martine had been hiding a hideous secret, it will make even the emperor disgusted for his existence.

    Ah... If that's the case...

This won't be an easy job.
