Chapter 4

A week has already passed and I am currently preparing for the Freshmen Orientation Program.
"Jeanny, hurry up! We're going to be late." She's been in the shower for almost an hour.
"I'm almost finished!" She shouted back.
"You've been saying that for the past 30 minutes and you're still not out." I shouted back.
Ten minutes later, she came out with her hair all dried up and wearing a dress just above her knees.
"Wow. Finally." She just smiled at me and twirled in front of the mirror.
"How do I look?" She asked me.
"Pretty. But good luck trying to keep warm in that." I said to her.
She's really pretty, but the dress is too short to keep her warm in the winter.
"I'll just wear a coat." She squealed as she went to her closet and chose a brown coat to keep her warm.
"Wear stockings too." I told her because in that state, she'll freeze her legs even before she can go inside the classroom."
"Okay okay. She answered back." I took one last glance at the mirror and took my bag and headed out of the room followed by Jeanny.
"Eunice, you really dress simply." Jeanny told me as we walked down the hallway.
I'm wearing white loose long sleeves tucked in the front of my jeans and a leather jacket to keep me warm. And boots for shoes. I love boots! I'm also wearing a white tote bag, since its very convenient.
"I just want to be comfortable. But I can be fashionable sometimes. Trust me." I winked at her. She laughed at me and stopped in her tracks. She stood in front of me and cupped my face.
"You're not even wearing makeup!"
"What are you talking about? I'm wearing makeup. Just a little bit." I laughed as I took her hands off my face and continued walking.
We walked slowly as we took in the beauty of the campus. Since we live in-campus, the thought of being late is just around 5 percent. But we decided to leave the dorms an hour before our class since we're going to eat breakfast first, and because of the fact that the closer you are from school, the bigger the possibility you become late.
We spent every day that way for the next two weeks. The orientation only lasts until 12 pm and after that I go straight to the restaurant. Sometimes, Jeanny comes with me and eats her lunch there and she'll stroll around the city and wait for me to get off work. I guess she's bored at the dorm by herself. I'm glad to have her as a friend.
The restaurant is pretty popular. Never thought that it would be filled with people every night. Jace and I are now friends. We're not that close but we talk from time to time when we're working. He sometimes helps me with my homework. The cold aura he gave off the first time we met is very much different from what I'm seeing now. He gives different expressions as well. Well I can say that everything's been going well for the past two months of my life here in New York, except for that day..
"I heard that they're looking for a new staff in the production team." I overheard the customer in sitting beside the window. They're a group of four petite girls who I can say are really pretty.
"Yeah I saw that notice too. I'm gonna ask my sister if she wants to apply. That's a great opportunity for her."
I can't help but be curious so I left Jeanny's table and went over to them. Courage courage courage. Come to me. I approached the girls slowly.
"Excuse me. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to overhear your conversation. But I'm also looking for a part time job."
"Oh. Are you a film or production graduate?" The girl asked me.
"Uhm no. But I'm a student of the same course." I answered.
"Hmmm okay. Well i think you're gonna qualify cause i think they really need help." The other girls nodded in agreement.
"Can I know which company is it?" I asked.
She leaned in closer to me.
"BlueStone Entertainment."
"BlueStone? As in The Wildes BlueStone Entertainment?" I asked.
She nodded, and the girls giggled. Okay. I'm not gonna be gullible. No way. I stared at them in doubt. I dont know if i should believe it or not. Then the girl gave me a reassuring smile.
"Miss, don't doubt us. We're telling the truth."
She then reached for her wallet and pulled out an ID.
"We're rookie artists at the company. And we heard about their recruitement for production staff, but we don't know thay much." I looked at her ID and saw that she's telling the truth. It is a BlueStone Entertainment ID. I nodded my head and smiled awkwardly.
"Sorry and thank you."
"You're welcome. You're pretty, Miss, but small. Hope to see you there." She smiled at me and I smiled back at her and went back to Jeanny's table.
"What were you doing there?" Jeanny asked as I took out the towel and spray and started to clean her table.
"Oh I just asked about a part time job."
"Again? Aren't you happy in this restaurant? It pays well, your boss is very kind, plus you get to see Jace everyday!"
I examined her carefully.
"What's with you? Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked.
"Why do I feel like you're crushing on Jace?"
"I'm not!" She answered in defense.
"I don't like him, Eunice."
"Really?" I eyed her closely.
"Okay fine. I do. Just a little bit."
I teasingly smiled at her.
"Why do you like him?" I asked.
"Can't you see that he resembles Jonathan?" She asked back.
"Jonathan? Jonathan Rodrigo? Like The Wildes Jonathan Rodrigo?"
"Yes!"
"What? No, he doesn't."
"He does. His hair and his eyes. His smile. It kind of resembles Jonathan."
Wow I didn't even notice that. These past 2 months Jeanny must've been eyeing him closely. This girl. Tsk tsk.
"Fine, whatever you say." I said as I stood up and took the dirty plates from the table to the kitchen to wash them.
After washing them, I went back to Jeanny's table and found her watching a variety show featuring The Wildes. There's really no ending to her fangirling.
"Hey, let's go home."
"Already?" She asked. "But it's just 7 pm. And its Saturday tomorrow. Rest day." She said as she looked at her watch.
"I'm going to apply tomorrow and I already asked my boss to let me go home early." I answered.
"Oh okay." She said as she slowly put down her phone and kept looking around.
"You know, I might mistake you for a giraffe. Your neck is growing longer." I told her as she kept raising her neck while looking around. She looked at me and pouted. "Don't tell me you're waiting for Jace?"
"What? I'm not."
"You better not. Cause i dont think he's coming tonight. I remembered him telling me yesterday that he's not gonna come in today because he'll spend the whole day at the company." I told her as I fixed my things to get ready to leave.
She slowly stood up and I could feel her disappointment. I just shrugged my shoulders and wore my jacket. In 3, 2, 1. Daeng! The door opened and I laughed at Jeanny's expression. There standing at the door is her crush. She looked at me in annoyance with her brows furrowed, realizing that I was teasing her.
"Eunice!"
I laughed more at her distress. She quickly took her things and left the restaurant. I walked towards the counter where Jace was standing.
"What happened to her?" he asked.
"She's just flustered and annoyed." I giggled.
"Why?" He asked with a confused look. I just shrugged at his question. I patted his shoulder.
"Bye and goodnight. See you tomorrow." I said and waved at him. He waved back and I heard Miss Davis shouting good night to me.
"Bye Miss Davis!" I shouted back and went out.
We went back to the dorms and I prepared everything that I needed for tomorrow's application! I hope I really get in. I prepared my clothes and set my alarm clock so that I won't be late. Honestly I don't know what time the company opens since I don't really know much about the application details. I'm just trying out my luck.
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock and Jeanny crying, begging for me to turn it off. I got up and turned it off. Then I went to take a shower. I took one last glance at myself. I'm wearing a black coat, a long sleeve blouse tucked under my ankle pants and a black closed heels. The weather was getting warmer because it's almost Spring, but sometimes it can be chilly in the middle of the day.
I walked out of the dorm and rode the bus to go to the restaurant. I need to drop off some grocery items that Miss Rodrigo asked me to buy early this morning since I live near the market.
"Good Morning Miss Davis!" I greeted her. As usual she looks beautiful. She looked at me with an annoyed face.
"I told you to just call me Anna! I feel kinda old when you call me formally." I laughed at her. This is my way of caring for her. Teasing.
"Noted, Anna." She smiled at me showing me her porcelain teeth.
"Thanks for this!" She held the bag of goods that I bought. She went to the kitchen and started to work.
I texted Jace and told him that I will work later today since I have an interview. I also told him that Jeanny is coming today to help a bit in place of me. I then looked at my watch and saw that it's already 8 am.
"Miss Davis! I'm going now! I'll see you later."
"Okay! God bless in your interview!!" She called out as I walked out of the restaurant.
This is it! Hopefully I get accepted even if i have only little experience. This job will enhance my skills in filming and production. I really need to have a job with a high paying income. I mean not that high, but enough for me to pay for my own apartment. As of now, I'm living in the university dorm and it's really expensive.
I took the bus to the company. Even after two months, this all feels strange to me. I took out my earphones and wore them as I listened to some calming music. I need to get rid of my nervousness. The bus ride was only around 15 minutes. I got off and started to walk towards the company building.
The weather today is fine. No. Slash that. It is beautiful. The perfect day to get accepted and celebrate. Before I crossed the street, I took one last look at my papers. I took them out of the envelope.
"Resumé, check. ID, check. Passport, check. 2x2 picture, check. University registration, check. Confidence, check." I grinned widely as I carefully placed all my documents back in the envelope while crossing the street, of course I checked both sides before crossing. Safety first!
As I crossed the street, I felt my body froze. Slowly, papers were falling down from the sky like leaves in the autumn. That is so weird. I looked up at the sky. The sun was burning hot, but it's still cold. I wonder, is it cold enough to make my body freeze? I wonder why the sun slowly turned upside down and then back again. It was staring at me. I turned my head to the side and I saw a tilted image of a car. Wow. How come I can't hear anything?
I've always wondered why people in dramas who got hit by cars just stand there frozen as if waiting for it to hit them. Why are they so stupid? There's still much time left to run and avoid the car, but they dont. Now, I wonder why I am so stupid.
I slowly felt the cold ground in my back. Its freezing. My head feels high. It feels hot somehow. But my legs, why can't i feel them.
I saw someone waving at me. Is that my brother? Or is it my dad? No. He's not. I don't know him. He's staring at me in confusion. Why? I felt his face coming closer. Oh no. This is not exactly what I thought would happen to me. This is not what I want.
