Chapter 114: The Trap

Cain walked toward the dead zombie and put its soul inside a small bottle. Then I asked him what happened and why they just gave it instead of fighting.
"I have wounded the ghost. I made her promise not to steal our kills anymore, and we won't steal hers too," Cain said.
"And she agreed with you?" I asked.
"I'd kill her if she wouldn't."
"That's cruel. But ghosts are already dead, aren't they? How would you do that?"
"Only ghosts can kill each other's. I've warned her to seal her if she'd keep stealing our enemies, but I don't think she still knew fear," Cain replied.
"Is she strong?" I asked.
"Very strong. But I'm stronger than her."
"Are you bragging?"
"Nope. She wouldn't stop fighting if she didn't know her place. She stopped because she knew she couldn't defeat me."
"So, why did you let her go?" I asked.
"You said you didn't want us to fight, so I stopped. I was about to kill her if you didn't stop me," he said.
I didn't realize that it was my fault. I couldn't see what was happening between Cain and the ghost he was fighting. I was so focused on that girl. She was gorgeous.
"Hey, are you still there?" Cain asked, waving his hand in front of my face. "What are you thinking about?"
"That girl," I said.
"What about her?" Cain asked.
"She's beautiful."
"What?" Cain exclaimed. "Don't tell me you're in love with her. That's not good, Lil. Having feelings for an enemy will only bring you to your demise."
"That's not what I mean. I don't think she's evil. She said that my enemies are her enemies too; that might be the reason why we stole each other's enemies. But as I've said, I don't think she's bad," I said.
"How can you say that?" Cain asked.
"She didn't want the world to be destroyed, and she tried her best to stop her master from fighting you. Isn't that enough reason to tell she's not bad?"
"You're not a good judge of character, Lil. Some people might appear good, but deep within their minds, they are thinking of how to kill you."
"You're really like playing the role of a pessimist, don't you?" I asked.
"I'm just trying to warn you to be careful, because not everyone can be trusted," he said.
"But that doesn't mean I have to stay inside my walls and keep everyone out. I think having friends you can talk with about anything is wonderful."
"Even your closest friends, even your own family, can betray you anytime, so there's no need to tell them anything, especially your secrets, because anything you reveal about yourself can be used against you."
"That's too much. I don't know how much suffering you went through when you were alive to be so distrustful like that."
"I've been backstabbed by the people I've trusted, Lil, and left behind by the people I've loved the most. That kind of life was such a hell, so I just ended it."
"Do you mean you killed yourself?" I asked.
"You only knew my name, Lil, but not my story. You knew nothing about my suffering," he said.
"Then why won't you tell me? I want to know everything about you, Cain. Nothing will be gone from you doing that. I won't use anything against you."
"I doubt that. You'll use things to make me ashamed, to manipulate me, but I won't allow you to do that. You're still too young to understand."
"Okay," I said. "I don't want to force you to do things you don't want. I'm always here; you can tell me anything once you're ready to open up."
"Thanks for your kindness, but there's nothing I can tell you right now," he replied. "Let's just leave here and find your next enemies."
Finally, I thought, those three guys and the woman with them could get back to their homes or wherever they belonged since the zombies were all gone. This place might not go back to how it used to be, like who the hell would think of building a house in this place?
"We're here," Cain said.
"Are you sure we're in the right place?" I asked, looking around. We're in a jungle.
"Yeah, of course. Why did you ask?"
"I'm just curious who's crazy enough to stay in this jungle," I said.
"The enemies usually stay in places where no one thinks they could be," he replied.
"If you say so..." I followed Cain as he trudged the path leading somewhere.
Cain suddenly disappeared. I wondered where he went. Did he enter into an invisible portal, or was he just trying to prank me? Leaving me behind in this place with no maps or something I can use to get out of here alive. There must be some wild and dangerous animals here.
"Cain? Where are you?" I continued walking.
I stepped into something. It was a deep hole. I fell so hard on the ground. My back hurts like hell. It was dark inside, so I used fire magic as a torch. I was surprised when I saw bones around. People must have fallen into this trap, not made it out, starved, and died.
I accidentally touched something, and a door opened in front of me. There was a strong force coming from it that pulled me so hard. I closed my eyes and heard people's screams. The pull stopped, and I found myself in an altar. I looked around and saw Cain. There was light coming from above.
"Lil, how did you get here?" Cain asked.
"I didn't really get here; it was the hole that brought me in. How about you? I thought you were just pranking me when you suddenly disappeared," I said.
"That isn't a hole created by man, Lil."
"What do you mean?"
"Someone must have created it intentionally. This place is a hideout. Have you seen those skeletons on your way here?" Cain asked.
"Yeah, what about them?" I asked.
"People were killed. There's a killer who lives in this place."
