Chapter 116: The Voices

It was raining when we arrived at the apartment. I saw the black cat sleeping on my bed. I immediately drove it away since it could bring bad luck. It climbed the windowsill and looked at me before jumping out.
"What is that cat doing here?" I asked.
"I don't know," Cain replied as he lay down on his bed. "It might have run away from its owner's house."
I heard a knocking at the door. When I opened it, I saw a girl standing in front of me. Her long, curly black hair was spreading around her shoulders. She had black eyes and was shorter than me.
The girl smiled eerily, showing her sharp teeth. She was holding a knife and suddenly stabbed me. I didn't see it coming. My stomach bled. The excruciating pain surged through me.
She pulled the knife, blood dripping from its tip. "You're pretty weak to be my enemy." She was about to stab me again when I grabbed her arm, stopping her.
I used my imagination to heal my wound. Then, I kicked her so strongly that it sent her falling backwards. She tried to get the knife from the ground, but I stepped on her arm, making her scream in pain.
"Now, tell me, who do you think is weaker between us?" I asked, standing tall, looking down on her.
"Ple—please forgive me!" She begged, tears falling down her eyes. She looked so pathetic.
However she started it, I couldn't let her go. She was my enemy in the first place, so I have to kill her, or she'd kill me instead. In order to avoid being killed, sometimes you have to be the killer.
I took the knife from the ground and used it to kill her. Then, I pulled her body inside the room, hoping that nobody saw me murder an innocent woman, or those police would keep hunting us again.
"Lil, who's that woman?" Cain asked. He stood up from his bed and walked toward me. "Did you kill her?"
"Yes, I did," I replied.
"Why?" he asked, confused.
"She attacked me first using a knife, so I had no choice but to fight her back. She said she's my enemy," I said.
"If she's your enemy... then why couldn't I detect her presence when she's near?"
"I can't answer that. Perhaps she used concealment skills?" Then I remembered that black cat just a while ago. It must have a connection with this.
"Let me check it." Cain examined the body. "You're right. She's an enemy."
"Something's strange," I said.
"What’s strange?" Cain asked.
"Nothing. Just forget about it."
A few moments later, we heard the sounds of police cars coming. Someone must have seen the crime I've done, or there must be a CCTV camera around the house.
"We have to get out of here," I said.
"Let me handle that." Cain used concealment magic to hide my presence from the cops.
The cops went inside the room and found the body of the woman. They collected the equipment around, such as the knife that I used to kill her.
"This isn't an ordinary murder case," a male detective said.
"Why do you think so?" A female cop replied.
"There is blood on the stairs and the floor. The victim must have been killed outside and brought here. There are things here that belonged to males. No sign that a woman lives here," the detective explained.
"Just as what the witness said, a boy and the woman were fighting, and then the boy brought her inside the room. We've already checked the CCTVs around, and we didn't see that the killer had already escaped," another cop said.
"He must have taken the window."
"That's impossible. The windows are made of glass, and they are closed. They weren't broken either."
"Then, there must be another way."
I slowly left the crime scene while those cops were talking. I let them solve the puzzle. I'm sure it wouldn't be easy for them, even for the detectives, since everyone didn't believe in magic, unless there was no other way to explain the situation. Even so, no one would believe them if they publicized that a boy used magic to escape; even those children would only laugh at them.
"You should be more careful from now on, Lil," Cain said. "Those detectives are starting to be doubtful. You're lucky that the CCTVs hadn't seen your face. The only problem is the witness; that person might be able to describe you perfectly, and soon your picture will appear on screens. That'll be another problem."
"I know you're just worried. Let's just find another place where we can stay temporarily and rest." I pulled my phone from the pocket of my pants and used Google's search engine to find a hotel near us.
I booked a hotel and then rode on a taxi to get there since Cain couldn't use teleportation anymore because his mana had been drained after using concealment skills to hide my presence for too long.
While in the taxi, I couldn't help thinking about my parents. They must be worried about me for being gone for too long. I told them I went to the city to find a job. We haven't communicated for too long. I want to see them soon. I'd give them some money so that they wouldn't have to work hard on the farm and could have a good life.
After a few moments, we arrived in front of the hotel. I paid the driver for the wonderful ride and stepped out of the cab. The building was tall. I couldn't count how many stories it has. It could be between fifty and a hundred.
Suddenly, my head started aching again, just like what happened the other day. I could hear distant voices asking for help. It wasn't something new at all. I had this power that allowed me to hear and see things from afar.
"Please, don't hurt me," a woman begged.
It seemed like she was being hit by a belt, as far as I could hear. Then she started moaning, begging the man to stop. Is she being harassed or something? I wanted to help her, but I didn't know where I could find her.
"Lil, are you okay?" Cain asked.
The sounds and voices faded. I shook my head, trying to forget what I just heard, though they make me feel a little horny. I haven't had any sexual experience yet, and I wondered how it feels to have one.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Let's get inside the building. It's too late already to stay outside," I replied. I glanced at my wristwatch and saw that it was already 11:12 PM.
"Finally! I can get some sleep," I said as I lay down on the soft bed. I closed my eyes, and within a few minutes, I fell asleep.
