Chapter 35
"Come on, use your skills!" Chief Makifgilimenti let out; his eyes fixed on Filippo, who stood aside panting. Filippo looked up at the massive chief before him; he glanced at his opponent sword, which dangled in his hand, the chief's hardened expression on him.
"Fighting with the sword comes from the heart and not from the mind; you have to be alert and monitor your opponent's every movement, including his eyes and legs," The chief asserted, walking around Filippo in a circle.
"It has been years since I trained," Filippo spoke, glaring at the huge man. "But I can do better with time" he gazed down at his sword, his breathing pace coming back to normal.
"Time?" The Chief turned to look at him, an eyebrow raised with a stern face fixed on the young priest. He walked closer to Filippo, his eyes flickering in severe expression, "There is no time! No time at all!, you have to get back to your skills as soon as you can, the danger is lurking, and I am sure that the worst has begun to happen; you must get ready immediately," The Chief advised his eyes fixed on Filippo.
Quickly, he swings his sword towards Filippo. Shocked at the sudden attack, Filippo quickly dodged with his sword on his opponent's sword. They stared at themselves for a minute, their eyes blazing in resentment.
Hastily, Filippo moved apart, swaying his sword, but the chief quickly reacted by hitting his sword strongly on Filippo.
Filippo's eyes bludge in shock at the chief strength; his sword dropped to the ground, its sounds echoing in the large field.
Chief Makifgilimenti pointed his sword at Filippo, who stood still with his eyes fixed on the blade a few inches from his eyes.
"You are not ready," He noted with a disappointed look, "Go back to your hut; we will proceed tomorrow immediately the sun rises;" The chief said, lowering his sword, he walked away from Filippo with heavy feelings.
Groaning in defeat, Filippo glanced at his sword, which laid few feet away from him. Slowly, he removed his outer cloak with a stern look on his face. He must do this; he has to; no one can save him except himself. He picked up his sword, with a determined spirit, he trained; his heart held a strong core.
Noon passed, but Filippo trained tirelessly on the field. Chief Makifgilimenti stood at a distance, watching him with a pleased look on his face. He understands that the young priest has lived years without using his sword, so it must be tough for him to come by.
Chief Makifgilimenti walked into his hut, his heart filled with so many thoughts. He knows that the deadline is near, and he must train Filippo just like his fathers instructed.
The following day, Chief Makifgilimenti and Filippo trained fiercely. Days passed rapidly, and with every training they took, Filippo improved significantly to the chief's surprise.
"I can see that you are ready now," The chief said one morning after the training. Filippo won, defeating him three times with so much ease. Indeed he has his father's blood running through his vein.
Filippo looked up at the chief, "I am," he responded bravely as the head stared at him with pleased eyes.
"I see," The chief let out and began to walk towards his hut; Filippo followed behind. "Time isn't by our side anymore; now that you have mastered your skills, it is time for you to continue your journey to the underworld, but first, you must.....".
A loud yell interrupted the chief; immediately, he turned to the direction the voice came from with worried eyes. A young man ran towards the Chief, his hands yelling for the chief's attention. He came closer, his eyes filled with panic; quickly, he knelt in front of the leader, his head bowed down as his body shivered in fright.
" Chief," he let out and panted heavily, words unable to come out of his mouth.
The chief looked at the man before him with curious eyes; a look of worry appeared on his face, "Speak!" He commanded, his bulging eyes on the man.
The young man looked up at the chief, his eyes flickering around with terror written all over it; he glanced at Filippo, who stood beside the head with a puzzled face.
"My Chief, Our village is under an attack, and right now, they are proceeding towards here," he spoke out with fear in his eyes.
The chief looked forward with alarm; he returned his gaze to the young man, stampede all over him, "Who?!" He asked loudly with a hardened face.
The young man glanced up at the Chief with trembling eyes.
Suddenly, a loud noise filled the village; the ground spilled into two before the chief's eye, an earthquake approaching them.
The chief's sight widened in terror. He didn't need anyone to tell him what's going on. The time he has dreaded has arrived. He turned his gaze at Filippo, who looked at him with awe in his eyes, " Quickly, come with me, you have to leave here now!" He yelled, running into his hut. He handed a cloth to Filippo and instructed him to change into it, "This cloth has been kept ages waiting for you to wear them, this is the cloth fit enough for your journey, quickly, dress up!" He ordered.
Filippo quickly changed into the cloth. A young woman ran into the hut handling Filippo his bag; she glared at the chief, "My Chief, the back door for escape is already invaded, but I have a path he can pass without them seeing him," she said, returning her gaze Filippo.
The chief stepped before Filippo; he handed him a sword, sharp and shone brightly as the star, "This is the sword of my people, you should have it" the chief looked at him, his eyes hardened. Still, Filippo could see the worry in it, "Go and save the human race, remember, you have to come in contact with the last seed, the last daughter of Lucifer, she is the only one that can stop this, without her, humanity will be lost forever, there is still a chance that something good can proceed from this."
Filippo nodded, he knew what he is up to date, and he must accomplish this. The journey to the underworld is a disastrous one but with the help of God; he prays he might defeat all obstacles.
Instantly, the ground trembled violently; a scream filled the village as the people ran around with fear in their eyes.
" Come with me!" The maid cried out, running out of the hut.
Filippo turned back to the chief, who stood still.
"Go!, your God will be with you," Chief Makifgilimenti eyes softened as he blessed.
Nodding, Filippo turned with a heavy heart; he walked out of the hut, holding the sword tightly. He looked further with shocked eyes; the village was in ruins, thick cloud of darkness appeared in the sky as a loud noise was heard, an earthquake overtaking the land before him as a roar was heard without a sign of mercy. Quickly, he ran along with the woman who took him to a part far away from the village. They got far into the woods, which was so dark that Filippo could hardly see. He walked further into the woods with worry on his face as the woman before he lead the way.
Hours passed by without them getting out, fear began to appear on Filippo's face. He glanced at the woman before him with intense curiosity. "Something doesn't seem right," he said to himself as he narrowed his eyes. He scanned the young woman and noticed that her skin color looked different and pale, her feet longer than any feet he has seen. He looked up at her hands and realized how long are claws are.
His eyes widened in fear as he realized who she is. She isn't a human but a demon. The realization brought weird feelings to him. Slowly, he took out the sword as he walked behind her, not trying to make a noise. They walked deeper into the woods, the sound of wild birds echoing around.
Filippo watched as the lady's claws grew longer and sharper. With dismay in his eyes, Quickly, Filippo brought his sword and stabbed her at her back, piercing deeper, his heart petrify by it.
The woman screamed instantly; gradually, she changed to her proper form, her cries filling the woods. Filippo thrust the sword deeper into her as blood spilled everywhere. Her purple skin and elf ear shone brightly. She had long black hair which flowed dangerously without caution.
Slowly, she turned her head towards Filippo, who held the sword fixed in her body. Her eyes were bulged out with anger, her tongue, long and fiery just like a serpent, her fangs extended and pointy; her appearance was too terrifying to look at.
"How dare you?!" She screamed with blood dripping out of her mouth.
Without any second thought, Filippo quickly withdrew the sword from her body and cut off her head before she could attack.
Her head fell to the floor with her scream piercing the heart of Filippo as he stared at her with dismay and shock. Instantly, the demon head and body vanish into thin air, leaving Filippo in terror. He turned around, his eyes scanning the woods, but he couldn't see a thing.
He felt his hands vibrate to his surprise; looking down; he notices that the blood of the demon on his sword quickly vanished, the blade glinting to the ray of the sun.
Panting, Filippo quickly placed the sword beside him, held his bag against his shoulder; with a stern expression on his face, he moved deeper into the woods as he began his journey into the world filled with darkness and pain.Download Novelah App
