Chapter 34
Mother Tekla's eyes shone in fear as she stared at the face before her. Her trembling hands held her rosary tightly as a feeling of shock and panic overwhelmed her, her eyes still fixed on her.
"Maria," she called out softly again as thoughts ran through her mind. She glared at her; her long dark hair glowed, filled with nothing but darkness. Her face, so frighteningly beautiful but shone deadly, filled with evil. She wore a red gown which had a part that covered her hair. A portion of her skin was exposed as her long black nails shone brightly, expressing danger.
A smirk appeared on Beleth's face; she turned away from the shivering older woman and walked around the room, the mighty wind still blowing fiercely.
"Oh, Mother Tekla," she called out in a mockery tone; she made a sound with her lips, her eyes flickering around the room.
"It is such a pity that everything has to end this way," Beleth said, not glancing at the woman, but she could feel anxiety overwhelming the old woman.
Slowly, Beleth gazed at her, her eyes blazing red as fire. She held Mother Tekla by her cloth, lifting her as the older woman jerked in fear, never in her life as she encountered something so dreadful.
"Humans!" Beleth roared in rage, her eyes still fixed on the woman who trembled in the air, "Pestering scallywags of fools!" She growled loudly; a mighty thunder overcame the convent as the walls began to crack.
Blood trickled down Mother Tekla's face, her lips trembling.
Beleth turned her face slowly; her eyes stabilized on the woman before her, a laugh escaped her lips, making the ground shake tremendously.
She stopped laughing; her claws elongated and pierced deep into the older woman's neck. Mother Tekla screamed in pain; her body overwhelmed with anguish.
Beleth continued with her torture, blood dripping down the woman's neck dropping on the ground below her; the screams of mother Tekla sounded like music to her ears.
"My father waited a long time for this," she whispered and chucked, turning her face to look into the screaming woman's face, her eyes flickering in delight. "It is such a pity you have to die this way," she said, making a mockery sound; a laugh escaped her lips, vast darkness overtook the convent.
Mother Tekla couldn't take the pain anymore; slowly, her eyes began to close, her heartbeat reducing gradually. Beleth watched her die slowly with gladness in her heart. Finally, Mother Tekla breathed her last and passed out overwhelmed with great agony. Realizing that she is dead, Beleth slowly removed her claws from her neck as blood dripped down her fingers. She looked at her hand, picked up a piece of paper on the floor, and cleaned the bloodstains as she stared at the dead body in front of her.
Suddenly, she heard a knock. Beleth turned her gaze to the door, a smirk on her face.
"Mother Tekla," A voice called out from the outside. The sound on the door persists for a while without the nun outside getting a reply. Slowly the door opened, sighting her coming in; Beleth vanished into thin air.
The young nun stepped into the office with shock written on her face as she scanned the messy room filled with broken glasses everywhere. Her eyes caught the body of Mother Tekla, who lay still on the floor. "Mother Tekla," she called out softly but got no answer. With a trembling body, the young nun walked closer, her heart racing faster. With tears and pain in her eyes, she saw the body of Mother Tekla soaked in her pool of blood, her eyes out from its socket.
Filled with fright, the young nun screamed and ran out of the room down the stairs, her scream echoing around the long halls.
Immediately, a loud sound of thunder filled the convent; thick smoke covered the roof of the convent as the cries of wild birds filled the area.
Catherine looked up puzzled; she stood on her feet and glanced at her window, wondering what was happening. Instantly, her door flew open, a nun ran into the room, her eyes twitching in fear, "We have to leave here at once; the end of time has come, this is the end of humanity," the nun said with a tensed voice as she held Catherine with quivering hands.
Catherine ogled at her, confused, "I don't understand; you speak in parables, sister, what's happening?" She asked. A mighty thunder echoed loudly, instantly before their eyes, a blinding light passed through the window, causing the nuns to fall to the ground, their hands over their faces. Catherine looked up with shock on her face; she glanced at the frightened nun beside her; quickly, she held the nun's hand, stood up, her eyes surveying her room, "Let's leave this minute!" She cried out; the whole convent began to shake violently. The nuns fell heavily to the ground again, their faces hitting the floor. Blood dripped down from Catherine's nose; she touched her nose in pain as her veil loosened, revealing her blonde hair. Instantly, she got up again, courage filling her, with her hand wrapped around the nun's hand; they ran out of the room, holding the wall for support against the trembling ground.
Outside the room, Catherine heard a scream approaching them; she looked up with fear as nuns came, running violently down the hall.
"Mother Tekla is dead!" A nun cried out in the crowd as the nuns ran with might.
Catherine's eyes widened in shock, "Mother Tekla is dead?" She asked herself. The nun beside her looked shocked as well, a tear trickling down her cheek. Catherine glanced around with serious thoughts; she fixed her gaze on the nun beside her, holding her hands, blood flowing down her face from her nose, "Listen closely, follow the other nuns, I have to go somewhere, you need to be safe," She mumbled to the frightened nun.
The nun looked up at her with eyes filled with tears, "No, we have to go together," she notified.
Catherine perked up to the direction leading to Mother Tekla's office, a tear trickling down her face. With a sad smile on her lips, she nodded, glared back at the nun, "Just go, the Lord be with you," she whispered and let go of the nun's hand. With tears pouring down her face, the nun ran in the direction the other nuns took, leaving Catherine alone in the dark hall.
Tearing a piece of her skirt, Catherine whipped her bloody nose with it and walked down the dark hall leading to Mother Tekla's office. Her eyes scanned around as she walked, with no sign of fear on her face. Surprisingly, the hall was so quiet, to her dismay, as she wondered if any nun was in the building.
Catherine hiked further along the hall. A few feet away from Mother Tekla's office, she heard a noise behind her; goosebumps filled her body as she quickly turned back.
A figure approached her in the dark; the dim lights made it difficult for Catherine to see.
"Who is there?" She asked with a tensed voice and moved back slowly, filled with fright.
Gradually, the figure's face became apparent to her; Catherine's eyes widened in shock as she stared at the image before her.
"Maria!" She called out; tears trickled down her cheek as a cry of relief and happiness escaped her lips.
Standing a few feet away from her is Beleth in her old form as Maria dressed in her nun clothing; her veil stood on her head, covering her hair as she smiled sweetly at Catherine.
"Oh, Maria!" Catherine called out, filled with joy. She began to walk towards her; Beleth stood at a spot smiling sweetly. Catherine came nearer, stood before her; more tears streamed down her cheeks; she breathed a sigh of relief as she looked at those blue eyes she missed.
"Where have you been, Maria?" She asked smiles all over her face. "I was so worried about you, I prayed, fasted, and hope for your safe return, and now you are here looking unharmed," Catherine let out with difficulty as the tears and happiness could not allow her to speak well.
Her expression changed into worry, her eyes glinting at her in worry. "I was scared, I thought a wild animal killed you, or you were lost forever, the thought of you not coming back to the convent broke my heart; I was nervous Maria, I am so happy you are here," she said with tears flowing down her face.
Beleth smiled at her sweetly, "I am here now, Catherine; our lives can return to the way it was, you know I can't leave you; you are the only sister I have in this world," she replied sweetly, staring at Catherine. Slowly, Beleth opened her arms, "Won't you come closer and hug me? I have missed you, dearest sister," She let out lovingly, her voice filled with emotions.
Wiping her tears, a chuckle of happiness escaped Catherine's lips; she came closer to Beleth and wrapped her hands around her, holding her tightly, more tears trickling down her cheeks.
Suddenly, a smirk appeared on Beleth's face; slowly, she changed to her actual appearance. Catherine opened her eyes with a smile on her face, but quickly, the smile faded as the clothes Maria wore changed.
Immediately, Catherine let go of her grip with trembling lips, her knees became weak instantly, but before she could move away, Beleth grabbed her and pierced her claws into her heart.
Catherine's eyes flew wide open; a gasp escaped her lips as blood trickled down her mouth. She stared at Beleth with shock, her eyes filled with pain and betrayal. Quickly, Beleth ripped her heart out of her chest. With broadened eyes, Catherine fell to the ground in her pool of blood.
Beleth smirked deeply, glanced at the heart in her hand and back at the body before her. She threw the beating heart on the floor and walked away down the hall, her footsteps echoing loudly in the convent as a cloud of darkness appeared covering it all.Download Novelah App
