Chapter 33

JANE'S POV
"Good job, girls. And as I promised..." I took three thousand pesos in my bag and gave them one thousand each.
"Thanks, Jane," they said in a chorus before walking away.
I just smiled as I remembered the scene earlier where Selene was running when she heard that Kent was leaving. And yes, I planned to spread gossip with the three of them and let Selene hear the news that Kent is leaving. But that's true, Kent is really leaving.
He finally found his purpose to live... and it's her.
"Hello?" I said when Kent called on the cellphone.
"How's Selene?"
My heart ached at his question. I remember the times when Selene was not in the path between the two of us.
The time when we're there for each other.
It's just the two of us.
"Seriously, Kent? You're asking that?" I whimpered out of irritation. "Of course, she's not okay. She doesn't want to lose you, Kent. You know she's always crying because of you, huh?"
I know I also have a contribution to why they are hurting now, but look where the pain took them. Now, Kent is willing to heal so he can be with Selene. Not just for a short, but for the lifetime that they have.
"Jane, she's not the only one who's hurt," he explained to me. "Every single tear fell from her eyes, two fell from mine."
I know how much pain Kent is suffering now, because the moment he sacrificed for her, is also the moment I am sacrificing my sanity for them.
"Yeah, I know." I just gasped because I could feel the sadness in his voice. "So please, get well and heal. Many love you, Kent. Please don't give up your life just like that."
And I'm one of them... but I can't tell you that I still love you. It is no longer possible. Our time is over because your love is different... and the path I am taking is also different.
Destiny only brings us together to strengthen each other... so that when we see the person who is really for us, we know in ourselves that we can protect them.
"I won't give up." His courage increased because of Selene. "That's why I said goodbye to you, Jane. Thank you for the days when you gave us courage. Let's bury the past now and start a new one."
Start a new one without you. I can handle it, Kent. Even though I know why he is mad at me because I suddenly left him before without saying goodbye.
I didn’t speak and I just listened to what he would say next.
"Be careful. Please, take care of Selene, too. Thank you for being her kind best friend."
I thought he was going to hang up the phone, but he said something else that caused the tears to drip, even though I didn't expect them to drip from my eyes.
"I really love Selene, but please don't tell her that," he said. "I don't want to hurt her more, especially when she finds out I loved her more than she loved me."
There he turned off the call.
"I'm sorry, Selene, Kent..." I said and I just clung to the wall because I felt like my knees were slowly weakening.
It hurts, but it's also for all of us. When I have fulfilled my plan, I'll hit three birds with one stone.
So, just a little patience, Selene.
"You can achieve your happy ending too," I said to myself before I walked away.
SELENE'S POV
"Please! Just a minute! I'll just have a look inside, promise!" I beg the security guards at the airport.
They won't let me in.
"I really can't, miss. You don't have a ticket."
"All right! It's really only a matter of time, promise!" I tried begging for more.
Even if I squat here on the floor, they still won't let me go in!
"No way, miss. Just wait outside."
This won't work. I need to do something else. I hit the guards using my bag and ran into the airport. They won't be able to arrest me because I'm a minor- oh, stupid! I'm 18 even though it's not obvious! I'll think about what they will do to me later! Kent is my number one priority here!
"Sorry! I promise I'll be back after I see the man I love!" I shout at the guards before I run away from them.
I looked for Kent on every corner of the airport but he wasn’t there. Even just for today, Kent, show yourself to me.
"Hey, excuse me!" I shouted breathlessly to the woman wearing the flight stewardess's uniform.
"Yes?" she asked, smiling even though she was looking at me with a weird look. She seems to be used to people like me so she doesn't freak out too much.
"The plane to the States at five pm, has it left yet?" I asked a question, and I was also nervous about what she might answer me.
A simple no will make me cry, and a simple yes will break my heart.
I hope that maybe he changed his mind when he went to the States, or maybe something happened so the plane didn't take off right away.
Please Kent, don't leave me, please. Come back here...
"Plane to the states? Five pm?" she looked at the paper he was holding.
Please, don't leave. Please.
"Yes, miss... they left earlier."
I just crouched when I heard the bad news.
He's gone. Kent has left me. He left me without even telling me.
It's debilitating because I love him so much... but if only he would reciprocate his love for me like this...
"I'll let you go," I said before I left the airport, not even realizing that the security guards were looking at me with pity in their eyes so they didn't arrest me.
KENT'S POV
"Kent, are you crazy, huh?! You're leaving without letting me know?! I know you don't want to see me anymore but... is that how you really hate me so you're leaving now without me knowing? After all, who am I to say goodbye to you, right?"
I just put my cell phone in my bag and took my luggage. I felt the pain in my heart again after I listened to her voice message for me, but if I wanted to be with her for a long time, I had to put up with her.
I want to cuddle her, take her on trips to different places, accompany her through every trial in his life, and stay by her side as long as I can... that's why I will do it. I decided to go to the States and get well there so that when I return, everything will be fine.
I started to gain hope because of her.
"Kuya, we can still go back... if you want," Kayleigh said while staring at me. She will accompany me to the States so that I will not be homesick there. "Or maybe you can tell Selene you're leaving, right? It will hurt more if you don't even talk before you leave."
"I don't want to. She'll only get hurt more when everything didn't go as planned."
I just heard her sigh. "Hope everything goes well, brother."
They said I would get well, that I still had hope, but deep inside, I know there was none. I have hopes but not expectations. The hole in my heart is already deep and I feel like I am about to disappear from this world. Even breathing was hard for me. Living was hard for me.
But for Selene... I'll try. I will try to believe in the word forever, as what they say.
"Brother, just do your best to heal. Jane and I will take care of things for you."
I looked at my sister because of what she said.
"What do you mean?" I asked her.
"Nothing." She didn’t answer what I asked. "Come on, brother," Kayleigh said and carried her luggage.
What was that?
Tss.
