Chapter 46 Fake memories

"Speaking of finding the next key, where exactly are you going? "
"It's a long shot but I'm going back to our old house."
"But I thought it's already burned to the ground?"
"I would assume they rebuilt it and made a shrine out of it for the tourists to visit."
"I didn't know keyholders are so highly regarded in this world. No wonder those mercenaries want you alive."
"We're not. We're just rare items that kingdoms and the council want for themselves. We're just a tool for them to garner more power."
"So greed is also a thing in this world. Interesting."
We're here. Kai said. He covered half of his face before entering the gate. The house guard stopped him. They didn't even exchange words. Kai just paid him a coin and after that the man stepped aside.
The house was surprisingly big inside and there was even a tour guide talking to some group of people.
"Here is the picture of the keyholder I was talking about earlier. He's a very strong boy because his father trained him to become a farmer and wood carver. Here are some of the sample of his works.'' The guide showed the tourists some carved wood of animals.
"Wow those are good. You have talent." The ghost commented. Kai is the only one who can hear the ghost.
"Those aren't mine. Remember they burned my home. These are all replicas. This doesn't even look like my old house. This is too big and too beautiful to be our house."
"The house may be fake but those portraits look real. The kid looks like you. And your father looks exactly like you. No wonder the old guy at the hostel recognized you. He probably knows your father." she concluded.
"He's my father's best friend," he admitted.
"Wait, is it safe for you to roam around here? What if someone recognized you and snitched on the council?"
"I have no choice, I need to find the key to our next Destination. We will just need to be extra careful."
"I almost forgot about how hard it is to find those keys. Your mentor Miftah ain't playing around. How the hell are we going to find it?" the ghost asked.
"Honestly I have no idea. I was hoping I could find it here."
"Can you feel it? Like a radar or something?"
"Only if it's really close. Since all my powers are back now that we're here in our world I can now at least sense if a magical key is near."
"I assume it's not here, right?"
"No it's not. It's a long shot anyways. Miftah will not leave the key to a very obvious place."
"He sure likes to make us work for it. If it's not here, where is the next likely place? Your fathers farm? The hostel? Is there a cave here somewhere?"
"I will check them later. We have to go." He said. Suddenly becoming a little troubled.
"Why don't we check it now?"
"Someone's coming."
"Who?"
"An Enemy."
Should we leave now?
We can't leave. I can sense that the key is with them.
Really? Good then. The ghost gets excited. Atleast we dont have to look for them. We can just steal the key and leave right away.
I dont think it's going to be that easy. Kai looked at the direction of the group of men that enters the shrine.
Kai immediately saw the key. It's used as a pendant by one of the man. A centaur

"Wait we can't leave just yet. I can sense that they are in possession of the key." Kai said.
"That's good news. At Least we won't be wasting time looking for it everywhere. We sure are lucky this time. We can just snatch the key away from them."
"I don't think it's going to be that easy." Kai said as a group of men entered the shrine.
The ghost immediately fixed her gaze to the centaur. He has the key. Using it as a pendant for its necklace.
"He looks strong." The ghost commented. "Do you know him?"
"No, but I can sense his aura. This man is dangerous. He's a soldier hired by the council to keep an eye on this town."
"I'm sure the angel can beat him to a pulp."
"We can't afford to create commotion here or the council will find out exactly where we are. We need to take the key as discreetly and as quietly as possible."
"How the hell did he get into his possession of such an important item?did he got lucky or something?"
"If you want to buy some souvenirs here's our kiosk. Our best seller here are the replicas of the key our keyholder forges himself when he was trying to escape the council's soldiers. He resisted at first because he didn't want to leave his family. But when the council promised him that they would bring their family with him he finally said yes."
"Wow, the keyholder sure is lucky."
"No it's not mere luck. Powerful items like miftah's forged key looks for powerful owners. I don't think taking the key away from him will be easy at all."
"Don't worry I have a plan. Before the night ends that key will be mine."
