"What part of the I want to be alone don't you understand?" Kai asked the invisible ghost. He really wants to be alone but she keeps on following him.
"I'm bored and have nowhere to go. Don't mind me, just pretend I'm not here. I'm invisible after all."
"I can still feel your presence. You should just rest."
"You forgot I'm already dead. I'm not meant for sleeping, eating or resting."
"But not in this world. Sooner or later you will feel tired. Our world does not allow ghost loitering around here for far too long. You either belong to heaven or to hell and this isn't purgatory, even though it feels like one." Kai explained as he looked around Fortuna. A lot has really changed. The place that used to be a sleepy town is now alive even during the night. There are a lot of stalls. They're not yet on the market place but there are already tons of sellers trying to get his attention. It will be extra hard to find the key here.
"Is it true?" The ghost suddenly asked.
"What do you want to know?"
"About your family. Did the council really burn them to death?" her voice sounded concerned and sympathetic. They like to fight and bicker so he's surprised by her reaction.
"I don't want to talk about it."
"I do understand your feeling. After all, I too was burnt to death," she revealed.
"You're a very powerful witch. You can manipulate the weather. How the hell were you not able to save yourself from death?" Kai asked.
"I'm not a very powerful witch back then. My actual ability is making herbal potions to treat diseases. I wouldn't even call myself a proper witch honestly. I never put a curse on anyone."
"So it's all Akana's ability?"
"I've been a ghost for more than 500 years. I've haunted libraries so I've learned a few powerful spells. And yes, Akana's body and blood make my power more potent," she admitted.
"I heard witch can create their own spell. I've seen you did it. The shield that's your own spell."
"Yes, I created that spell for protection. But you know Nobody just lives for themselves. Protecting people you love is more important than life itself. I'm sure you felt that too for your family," her voice became sad.
"I couldn't even save them. I'm supposed to be a very powerful keyholder but i couldn't even give them the burial they deserve."
"They choose to save you. Your life is important to them."
"I wish they didn't make that sacrifice. I would happily turn over myself to the council just to save them."
"Then why didn't you? I heard from the devil, keyholder were given special treatment by the council."
"Because if I did i wouldnt be able to avenge my fathers death. I know they would try to erase my memory. That's what I heard from the old people in this town. They take the babies away from their family and they erase their memory so as not to remember that they ever had a child."
"It's easier if you just forget everything." the ghost commented.
"I don't want to forget. I will never forget." Kai said with conviction.
"Don't worry, I will help you avenge your family. We will take down that shitty council."
"Why do you want to help me? Don't you want to go straight to heaven or something? That's your goal right?"
"Well yeah. But that can wait. I mean the devil promised me heaven if I would help them bring Niccolo to his father. And that's also your goal right? Aside from taking down the council."
"I wouldn't trust Eelie if I were you."
"I was able to leave hell so that means I don't belong there."
"You must be a good person back when you were alive. Afterall you qualified in heaven. So what happened?" Kai asked.
"I don't know, maybe I wasn't good enough for people that I loved back then."
"How does it feel to see the person that caused your death suffer in hell?"
"The truth is I felt nothing. I thought I would be happy. Maybe because it's been 500 years that it no longer affects me that much."
"You're just not vindictive enough. I must say I'm a bit disappointed. Five hundred years is not a long enough time to forget a grudge."
"Maybe, but I was partly to blame. I broke her heart when I got married and left her alone. She loved me but I let her down because I couldn't let my father down."
"So to get back at you she accused you of being a witch which resulted on your painful death. How is that love? It's simple obsession and selfishness."
"I was the one who felt her love, so at one point I know it's real."
"You're too forgiving I can never be like you." Kai commented.
"A ghost needs to have peace of mind right? That's the only way I could receive the promise of eternity in heaven."
"I will not die until I avenge my family's death. I will destroy the council and I will make them pay. That's my version of peace of mind."
"How will you do that though?"
"We will start by finding the next key."
