Chapter 5: Third Year High School

Alvierra's P.O.V.
-Third Year High School-
"My name isn't on any of the section lists," I said to the admin.
"What's your name?" asked the admin, Mrs. Cruz. I gave her my card and form.
"I hope we're in the same class," Raileigh whispered.
"Okay, you're in Section 3," Mrs. Cruz said.
"Thank you," I said and went down to the 1st floor.
"Aish! We should be in the same class, it's so unfair," Rai complained.
"Let it go. We've been classmates for years since we were in Primary. Maybe it's not meant to be that we're classmates in Secondary," I said. She was still frowning. "Let's go, your mom's waiting for us."
"Wait, let's find your crush's section first," she said, pulling me towards the postboard where the section lists were posted.
I was sure we wouldn't be classmates with Rade this year. And I said that if we weren't classmates anymore, maybe I'd forget my feelings for him. There was a low chance of us being classmates because our names were scrambled. So I thought we wouldn't be classmates with Rade anymore.
"Oh My Gosh! You're classmates!" Rai said happily.
Oh, I guess not. Maybe I won't forget this feeling I have for him.
"Hey, why don't you look happy?" she asked.
"Because, I said I hoped we wouldn't be classmates this year so I could forget my feelings for him. I guess I won't," I said, sighing.
"You won't forget your feelings for him. You're destined for each other. Look, there was a low chance of you being classmates, but you still ended up being classmates," Rai said. Yeah, I guess she's right.
When we got home, I just wanted to forget about the guy who was bothering my mind and heart. It was still 3 weeks before classes started, so I had 3 weeks to enjoy those days.
"Vierra, anak. What do you want to be when you graduate?" Papa asked. We were eating lunch together. Mama was at work. Papa was off today.
"I want to be a teacher," I said.
"You want to be a teacher? What do you want to teach? Elementary, High School, or College?" Papa asked.
"Hmm, High School," I said. Papa smiled.
"What about you, Vince? What do you want to be?" Papa asked.
"I want to be a soldier," Vince said with a smile. I laughed because he wanted something different again. Just last time, he wanted to be a doctor. Now he wants to be a soldier. He's just imitating his friends outside. But I know that whatever Vince and I want to take, Papa will support us. I will also support Vince's dream. He will also know what he wants when he's in High School or when he's my age.
Here it is! I'm nervous about the First Day of Third Year High. I held the bracelet I was wearing and took a deep breath. When I entered the room, I sat at the back. Rade wasn't there yet, so that was okay. When our adviser arrived, he arranged our seating. It was alphabetical order. And because my last name is Mendoza, I was in the third row. Rade's last name is A, so he was at the front.
Jullian Reyes was also my classmate. He was behind me because his last name is R.
"I heard a lot about you," said the person beside me. I was surprised when he suddenly spoke. "I hope we can get along."
"Ah, I'm---" I was about to introduce myself, but he spoke.
"Alvierra Kate Mendoza, top 1 in your class last year. By the way, I'm Nash Ivan Morris," he said and extended his hand to shake hands. I shook hands with him.
"How did you know all that?"
"My ex-girlfriend was your classmate last school year," he said.
"Ex-girlfriend?" I asked.
"Anika Velasquez. President of your class," he said with a smile.
"Oh, you're the one she was talking about. Nice to meet you," I said with a smile. "So sad that you broke up."
"Yeah, it's for our future too. I chose to focus on my studies. In the future, I'll court her again," he said with a smile. I smiled at what he said. He's sweet. Anika is lucky.
I looked in front of me and saw Rade looking at me angrily. When he saw me looking at him, he looked back at the front.
What's wrong with that guy?
Our adviser introduced himself and just explained our grading system.
When he went out, Juls approached me.
"Hi Vierra! Didn't I tell you that we were really destined for each other?" Juls said with a smile. I laughed at him, and my seatmate laughed too.
"Hey Juls! You're so loud!" shouted the guy in the other row.
"You're embarrassing, Juls, you're so loud," I said, laughing.
I saw Rade stand up and walk towards Juls.
"Is Juls your boyfriend?" Nash asked.
"No, Alvi can't have a boyfriend yet," Rade said seriously.
"Oh, Alvi? But Juls is courting you," Nash said.
"Yeah, from now on! I officially announce that I'm Vierra's suitor," Juls said.
"Are you crazy?" Rade asked Juls angrily.
"No, dude, I'm going to court Vierra and I'll wait no matter how long it takes," Juls said with a smile. I furrowed my brow. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to embarrass Juls either. Rade went back to his seat because Ma'am was already there.
During recess, I went downstairs to the C.R. When I came out of the bathroom, I was surprised to see Rade leaning against the door.
"Rade?" I asked.
"Alvs, are you going to let Juls court you? You told me before that you weren't allowed to, right? You said that no matter what, you wouldn't get into a relationship during your High School Life." he said.
Yeah, I told him that before. He asked if I had any plans to get into a relationship or let someone court me. And I said no. I have no plans.
"Why are you angry? Are you my dad?" I asked, laughing.
"Vierra, I'm serious. I'm your best friend," he said. My smile faded when he said that line. Yeah, I'm your best friend.
"I have no plans to let Juls court me," I said seriously and walked back to our room.
"Vierra, have you eaten? Let's eat together," Juls said.
"Juls, I'm sorry. I don't want to be courted yet. Aside from being young, I want to focus on my studies," I said.
"It's okay, Vierra, I understand. Just let me like you," he said. I ignored what he said and just looked down at my desk.
"Are you okay?" Nash asked. I sat up straight and nodded at him.
When it was time to go home, Rade walked me out of our room.
"Sorry for interfering earlier. I'm really sorry," Rade said.
"It's okay, I'm not angry."
"Really?" he asked.
"Yeah." I said.
"What do you like in a guy?" he asked.
I like you.
"Someone who's an engineer," I said.
"Engineer?" Raiden asked. I nodded. That's also my type, hopefully an engineer. But it's just an imagination because I like Raiden.
He nodded and walked away. I saw Rai waiting, so I approached her and went home.
I helped Rade with his projects. The deadline was tomorrow, but he wasn't even halfway done.
"What are you even doing?" I asked, annoyed.
"We're training because the competition is coming up. When I got home, I fell asleep right away. Sorry, Alvs, I bothered you." he said.
"It's okay, I already submitted mine to Sir earlier," I said.
Good thing we finished. It was already dismissal time, and I helped Raiden when I found out he wasn't done yet. Rai also had a meeting for their club, so she wasn't going home yet.
"Thanks, Alvs. You're the best. I promise I'll make it up to you." he said.
"It's okay. Just do it early next time, okay?" I said and went out of the classroom. He submitted his project because they had training tomorrow.
