Chapter 25: Lost Chance
"Did you sleep with my cousin?!"
Sunghoon is finally barking mad and Jungwon found himself dumb, in the sense that his words have stopped flowing, stopped because he have seen a different side of him, the kind of Park Sunghoon he didn't anticipate to see. And it hurts him seeing the pains in Sunghoon's eyes, realizing he have caused it.
In his moments of emotional dumbfoundedness, when Jungwon conceived it will take time for his brain to find the words to adequately express what he actually feel, he stood quiet, left with nothing to say as guilt swallow him whole.
"Damn it! Answer me!" Sunghoon is shaking in madness, giving rise to Jungwon's thoughts to finally run.
"I won't deny that. But you don't know what really happened, Hyung. I-I can explain--"
Sunghoon cuts him out by forcibly grabbing his collar. Among the members, it was Park Sunghoon who got a Herculean build making everyone fear with his power punch, and he was there shaking in his shoes, like a wet cat waiting for his judgement.
Out of anger, Sunghoon finally lose his mind to sorely tempted to throttle him which immediately put the baffled leader on a chokehold.
"I trusted you! If you really want Hyejin you could have said it straight because I will completely understand but why this, Won?! You literally disrespected me and Hyejin, you bonehead!"
It was the kind of scream and disorder that alerts everyone in the house. Sunoo and Jake went out of their rooms only to be stunned seeing such a stiffling scene. Heeseung rushed in and in minutes, Jay and Ni-Ki barged next. Despite the overburden, Jungwon sometimes wished one day they'd come up complete to further strengthen their bond and just talk anything under the sun, and not because Park Sunghoon is strangling him to death.
"Hoon!" Heeseung ran to get ahold of Sunghoon's solid arms latching around the short-winded leader. "Stop it! Hear Jungwon out first! Give him a chance to explain!"
Sunghoon is definitely deaf for any begging instead he gave Heeseung a harsh geer.
"Let go, Hoon! Seriously, you're being irrational!" Jay jumps in, pulling Jungwon out of Sunghoon's gripping arms.
"Hyung, stop! Don't hurt, leader-nim!" Ni-Ki helped Heeseung and finally unravel the two.
"Are you two nuts?! Why are you hurting each other?!" Sunoo screamed in disbelief.
"Calm down, man!" Jake drew in, finally took Sunghoon away to widen the distance. "Easy, Hoon. I got, ya. Just breathe out." he mollified.
Sunghoon shoved Jake's hand and paced back while wildly stroking his hair. "So--" he freed a wary-like laugh, trying to connect the pieces of a puzzle. "You all knew about this all along and no one told me?! Well, f*ck you all!" Sunghoon spattered with disgust.
A minute of silence is defeaning, in line with their emotions up in the shelves. It wasn't all sunshine after all. Their piece of rainy day had eventually came, beating their bright rays of sunbeams.
"I'm sorry, Hoon. I just found out hours ago." Heeseung shyly admitted. "But please listen to Won."
"I'm guilty too but I thought Won should open up to you first. It's a personal matter." Jay chirped in.
"I know about it too. Earlier than Jay and Heeseung Hyung. Also Sunoo and Ni-Ki knows way early than me. I'm so sorry. You can strangle me too to ease your anger." Jake sadly admitted.
"I am the accomplice. I encouraged Jungwon Hyung to see Park Hyejin. I'll gladly take the punch, Hyung." Ni-Ki pronounced.
"Hit me instead, Hyung. I knew it first and even urged Won to pursue Park Hyejin." Sunoo hushed in regret.
Gasping for air, Jungwon tried to speak, unwinding his thoughts. He completely understood Sunghoon's anger. It's displeasing to be deceived, to the same degree of being unworthy, especially if it's done by the people you see as family. The betrayal of trust is the real stab in the back. But how can he tell his side of story when Sunghoon believed the truth from a different perspective? Sadly, their narratives of the same events are completely different. Whoever spoiled his secret to Park Sunghoon eventually preceded him, obviously wanted to put him and his relationship with his member in a ruin.
"This is solely my mistake." Jungwon halts everyone pulling up his superior tone despite the stifle. "They have nothing to do with this, Hyung. I am the one who made this mess. Bring your anger on me. If you want to kill me, do it now."
Sunghoon scorned and was up for another blow. He sprinted forward to make another sneak attack to Jungwon, catching the other members unprepared.
"What?! Come on!" Jay screamed, totally grossed out. He reached Sunghoon's hand before it could touch Jungwon's face. "Enough, Hoon!"
"Darn it. Not again." Yuki suddenly appeared, shaking his head in disbelief. "Let me guess, this commotion is caused by a girl, right? Hoon, enough. You might get surprise with what I'm going to say but Hyejin said do not lay your finger on Yang Jungwon."
"W-What?" caught off guard, Sunghoon and Jungwon mumbled at once.
"Where is she? Is she okay?" Sunghoon repeatedly asked, at some point he had forgotten his instability.
"She's fine. I sent her home safely. But why this uproar, huh? Jungwon is still your leader. At least, respect the kid."
"A kid?" Sunghoon protests. "He slept with my cousin, without me knowing he's hitting her behind my back! That's not a kid's doing. And what do you expect me to do? Laugh my heart out?!"
Yuki shook his head, cutting Sunghoon to utter another mistaken belief. "The one who told you that really knows how to take you down. Didn't it come to you that you might beating the wrong guy? I'm not siding with Won, he made a mistake but hitting your leader was uncalled for. Won's not the kind of man who would thoughtlessly sleep with a girl. If anyone of you who will do that, that would probably be Heeseung."
"Ya--" Heeseung flinched, couldn't believe the straight talk. "Why are you dragging my name into this? This is Won and Sunghoon's mess."
"You're the only one who is cuffed here." Ni-Ki whispered, stopping a chuckle.
"Okay. I won't deny I almost slept with Aerin only if Won didn't call me to meet him up."
"Seriously, Hyung? Admitting you and Aerin almost got laid in a middle of a heated confrontation? You're such a dally." Jake freed an outstretched grin.
"Ah, you insensitive brag. Can you at least be subtle to us single men here?" Jay whines.
"Well, Yuki started it--
"Sleeping with my cousin is something I can slowly understand! But making her pregnant is something I cannot accept! Won, you moron!" Sunghoon once again blowed up while making an effort to escape Ni-Ki and Jake's latches.
"Park Hyejin is pregnant?!" Sunoo mumbled in disbelief.
"Woah! That is something I didn't expect to hear." Ni-Ki let was fast to get stiffened.
"Won, that's so downright unacceptable." Jake cracked out, disappointed as the two.
It takes courage to exit the catatonic state. To disengage with the chaos he needs to tell the truth. In those profound moments of struggle, Jungwon found his voice. He rose his face to meet Sunghoon's biting stare.
"You believed a fallacy, Hyung. Hyejin's not pregnant. I can prove it to you."
"Won's telling the truth. You can call Aerin, she was with Hyejin when she took the test. It came out negative." Heeseung came to Jungwon's defense.
"No need for that. Park Hyejin personally told me to unravel the misunderstanding. She suspected she was pregnant because her period is delayed, turns out it was just stress and hormone instability. She knows she strike Won with fear after telling him she might be expecting. With that, she apologized for causing a confusion." Yuki continuosly speak in an undertone, leaving all the members to become uninterruptibly silent.
"Now that the mix up has already reached it's clarity, cut this bullsh*t. You two, apologize to each other." Yuki demanded.
"I'm sorry, Hyung. I really am." Jungwon never hesitates to speak first.
One can easily forgive and move on but it goes the opposite for Park Sunghoon. It was his one trait that he surely hates. He found forgiving so impossible creating his own emotional scars. Looking at their pleading faces, a thud of ache arises but it didn't break his brass-bound heart.
"You lied to me for countless times. I don't think I can trust you anymore."
Jungwon's shoulder fell heavily with the response he had got. He kinda expecting it somehow, but still, it caused him to be disfigured, more times over than being wrecked by a speeding car.
Trust, once it's broken, though you can fix it, it will never be the same again. Never once did Jungwon thought he'll break the foundation they have built for years with a single mistake. He failed himself, his team. He failed as a leader. Because trust is the foundation of leadership. Without trust, a leader’s influence becomes hollow and ineffective.

When the world felt as if it were on fire, the pool drank it all in and redeemed the coolness. Submerged in the water, Jungwon is sitting in a cross legged position, eyes and mouth's close, as he tried to recall some ideas as to what is missing on his brain. He couldn't believe he is experiencing an alcohol blackout. The gap in his memory tends to linger for a longer time causing all the turmoil.
Going down in that pool is a compromise and absolutely a risk to take, but there's no place as quiet as the water and he needs to recall, to save his relationship to his members not to fall in a shatter.
Pushing himself to remember, Jungwon struggle for air but fighted the need to rise up. His consciousness was floating through an empty space filled with a thick static. Little by little, everything came back like a shaft of light.
Her eyes, in almond hue, appeared like a rush, so vivid and bright, such a magical sight to see. After their shared kiss comes a moment of amusing flash. Hyejin's raw reaction was the cutest he had ever seen. She covered her mouth after the kiss, all red and capped with disbelief. It was the blush of roses, the peek of champagne pink; her colour infused cheeks and eyes shone in a way that only deep happiness can bring. It was one the moments Jungwon was left with nothing to say but sit there and just be amazed.
"D-Do you want to know a secret?" she hushed, eyes were dragged to sleepiness.
Jungwon's smiled widely. Hyejin's slurred speech and slumberous eyes are the cutest things he had ever seen.
"Spill it out." he dared.
"I am in love with you." she admitted, without holding back.
A mixture of shock and astonishment had hit him hard, quick enough to make his jaw dropped in such a glorious feeling. He tried to reach for her face once more, she flinched a little, but of a good sort. In the middle of her giggles comes the effect of alcohol. She reached back only to hold him to barf on his sleeves.
Others may call it icky but he called it silly. He chuckled seeing her passed out in his arms. She cleaned her up and gently laid her to the bedstead across the floor.
He is not sure if he's breathing, how can he suddenly becomes claustrophobic? Jungwon choked as he felt two strong hands pulling him out of the water.
"Won! Damn it! Wake up!"
Sunghoon's scream lingered across the empty sheltered swimming pool. His panicking voice made Jungwon to unlatched his eyes as the culprit scab finally falls off his brain.
"H-Hyung?" fighting for air, Jungwon was surprise seeing Sunghoon covered with fear.
"God, you scared me! Are you trying to kill yourself?!"
"Did you just pull me out?"
"How long have you been in the water?!" Sunghoon asked, totally agitated.
"I don't know. I am trying to recall something." Jungwon calmly responded. "But Hyung, I remember it now! I didn't touch Hyejin as what someone had told you. We kissed, yes, but--"
"Do you really love Hyejin?" Sunghoon cuts him fast, throwing him for a loop.
"I--" initially, Jungwon couldn't express his thoughts. "Yes. I love her. So much that I couldn't do something beyond my limits."
"Then come with me. Jay's waiting outside."
Still his knees in a jiggle, Jungwon followed Sunghoon's steps. It was when they got settled in the car that he finally got the courage to ask.
"Where are we going?"
Jay chuckled and throws a clean shirt on his face. "You'll know. But first, get dry, you wet kitty."
That long ride spoke volumes of memories. In that familiar street, Jungwon was capped with contrasting emotions, he likes the feel of it, yet it's driving him insane. It's the way to meet Hyejin and he was clueless on what Sunghoon is trying to do.
"Hyung--"
"You need to stop Hyejin from going back to Poland. She can't cannot go with Ahn Minhyuk."
Sunghoon's tone reverberated with worries, something that gives a sense of disturbance. Looking back, he once saw that distress face in Hyejin's face when he talked about Ahn Minhyuk. His instincts were right with that guy, much more to his brother Ahn Minhyun. Although still on a bubble, Jungwon was on tenterhooks waiting for the car to reach Sunghoon's town.
"Ahn Minhyun sent me the video. Yuki told me Ahn Minhyuk spilled Hyejin's medical result to their coach causing all these blunders. And thinking about Minhyun having that video spells red flag to me. He's been following Hyejin around like a psycho ex boyfriend."
Sunghoon's revelation caught him off guard. His mind was completely unhinged by shock and anger causing his blood to boil.
"I'm sorry, Won. I let my anger swallow me. Let's take a turn for the better. But let's stop Hyejin to take that flight first."
Standing in that unfamiliar doorway, Jungwon's heart was pounding so crazy. Maybe for the thought that Sunghoon and him have managed to patch things up or seeing Hyejin again after that hurtful parting. Whatever it is, he is certain that everything will go right and the deep connection that he always dreamed to have will finally have it's chance.
"Hoon?! Why are you here at this hour?" the middle aged lady greeted them in surprise.
"Aunt Meejin." Sunghoon greeted back. "I'm sorry for bothering you at this hour but we need to talk to Hyejin. This is Yang Jungwon by the way, my co-worker and our leader."
"It's nice to meet you, Park Meejin-nim." Jungwon shyly greeted.
"It's so nice to meet you too. But, you're looking for Hyejin? She's--" Hyejin's mother stopped and examined their eager faces. "I'm sorry, Hoon, but Hyejin already left to Poland last night. It was a sudden decision to take an early flight."
