Chapter 24: Trouble
The air that escaped Hyejin's dry lips was slow, as if her brain needed that time to process what had happened. Her eyes remained fixed on the road, to the couple running away, on the exact path Yang Jungwon had fled down.
Just how fast the night rapidly changed, in the blink of an eye, it's all gone - the memories gone off course like meeting a disaster. And she's all alone with nowhere to go, uncertain of what to do as all options seem unpleasant. It seems like her screwed up life flashed before her eyes as reality slapped her hard. Falling in love with an idol is so utterly ridiculous. Hyejin couldn't believe she let herself fall too deeply, to the point where she thought they shared the same feelings towards each other.
Holding the tears that's attempting to fall, Hyejin rushed out the store, impulsively running without any direction in mind. It had been for a while that she looked at Jungwon as her only source of positivity, of warmth and emotional comfort but the cruel truth brought her self esteem came to naught, and it brought danger to herself because that night turned radically unsafe and she was grasping of what to do.
At first, while running out, Hyejin saw nothing but darkness, swirling and spinning around in front of her, then suddenly, a flash of bright headlight hit her face. It stayed up like it was really set to focus on her face. Still in a quandary, Hyejin paced back to escape the blinding lights only to be suspended again by a whistle blow. She ceased her feet to further scurry.
"Park Hyejin?" the man asked, studying her face. "Hong Yuki, Enhypen's manager. You need to come with me."
She never heard that name before and not even once Jungwon told her their manager's name. Wearing a bucket hat, their line manager appearance is younger than what she expects an overseer to look like, someone who's appears stern but radiates a trusting aura. However, she's emotionally injured and stubbornness is eating her pride, Hyejin shrugged the manager off with a hard scoff on his face.
"Leave me alone." she sneered.
She heard a cackle, light but strong enough to be misplaced. Hyejin sighed staring at Yuki's amused laugh.
"Ah, I can't believe I met another headstrong significant other. I thought Choi Aerin is the hardest one to deal with." Yuki pronounced while quickly jumping out the car. "Get in. I won't take no for an answer."
Thinking about the dangers of unfamiliar place that could possibly bring to her, Hyejin had left with no choice but to follow. She wanted some solace as her heart is ripping apart and she knows for sure that the comforts of her bed or even a bowl of a delicious hot ramen cannot ease it away. Yang Jungwon shook her world and it's slowly collapsing, falling in on her from all sides.
"It's not a surprise to meet the girls my boys are seeing right now. What surprises me is that Jungwon took the risk dating his member's cousin. Can't blame him though." Yuki said with his small glances in the mirror after she hopped in.
"We're not dating. We were never a couple." she answered, holding her voice not to crack.
Telling the truth is suppose to lighten your inner burdens but why does it felt more heavy? Maybe because she hoped for a deeper interconnection but Yang Jungwon couldn't give it back. And figuratively speaking, it sucks so much.
"In any case, I believe you. I was just surprised because I didn't have any clue about what's going on between you and Won. And I'm really quite worried if Hoon finds out--"
"Sunghoon Oppa will not find out if you won't say anything. Can you drive a little faster, Ahjussi? I wanna go home." she unceasingly uttered.
Yuki glanced on her once more before letting out a troubled sigh. "Sure. That's what I am tasked to do. To get you home safe."
It was a quiet two hour drive. The longest two hours quite honestly. She's not pregnant, thankfully and she's going to Poland with a wretched heart, unfortunately.
It feels like she's back to square one, grasping for a hand to hold. She's going overseas in the company of Ahn Minhyuk and with that, her fear doubled thinking about the whatabouts. Another part of her brain is seeking to warn her to trust her instinct- that Ahn Minhyuk harbours harmful intent. She was crestfallen watching Yang Jungwon abandoning her in a bitterly cold night and yet her stupid heart still screaming his name.
"Your phone's ringing." Yuki broke the silence to stop her swinging thoughts.
Looking at the blinking screen, she wished it was Yang Jungwon - that he suddenly realized he had made a mistake leaving her that easy and finally had a change of heart. How she yearned that he have come to apologize but unhappiness covered her discovering who the person on the other line is.
"Coach Jang--"
"Where are you? Minhyuk told me something scandalous. We need to talk Hyejin."
Being random is not Coach Jang's innate quality. When she goes a little irate it means trouble for her but how can she explain that she believed a bum steer? That the truth is that, she's damaged and never have felt below par. Ahn Minhyuk is going out of turn for spoiling her medical results when the fact of a matter is, it's not what it is.
"Your medical result shows your monthly period is delayed. I cannot believe I am about to ask you this. Are you pregnant, Park Hyejin?"
Yuki keeps on glancing at her. In his quietness, his face showed concern. Maybe because he saw her burning face holding an infinite gasp while shutting her eyes to stop the distress cry to break lose.
"I'm almost home." she finally voiced out. "Coach Jang, I'm--" she glanced back at Yuki before dropping a farce. "You got it all wrong. I'm not pregnant."
The vehicle coming to a sudden halt and the horrified face of Yuki made Hyjein leaped in alarm. Stopping a yelp to escape her mouth, she fearfully spoke. "Ahjussi, you understood it wrong."
"D-Did you slept with Yang Jungwon?!" Yuki straightly asked, his eyes were covered by disbelief.
"W-We--" she drew back some air before speaking again. "We got ourselves drunk. I cannot remember anything after that, so was he."
She still can't remember and it feels so disappointing. That night transpires nothing but disaster giving her minuscule fragments of memories. If only she had known everything will dramatically overturn that night, she wouldn't asked for Yang Jungwon to stay by her side.
"Damn it! Another drawback caused by a girl? Are you kidding me?"
Yuki accelerated the car to almost burning it's rubber while Hyejin stood embarass to muffle another word. She gaped at Yuki desperately speeding while putting an effort to make a call.
"Sh*t! Why is no one answering me?!" he fretted, punching his wheel.
"I'm going to call Sunghoon Oppa." Hyejin took her phone out as she gets a little unsettled thinking about a probable disorder.
Yuki shook his head, a manifestation that something unpleasant is likely to happen.
"Then what? Are you going to tell him yourself you slept with Yang Jungwon?"
In that time being and a moment of stillness, it scared her. She didn't blink, eyes on the road, brain's empty to even think. Her reflection in the car's mirror showed anxiousness, close to going on her wit's end. Perhaps the moonlight is making her skin so pale or of the lack of wind letting every hair hang without movement. The vehicle stopped and she didn't realize how she dragged herself out. After a minute of battle with her own self, Hyejin finally voiced out.
"If ever you find Sunghoon Oppa and Won in a great depth of misunderstanding, please do intervene, Ahjussi. Tell my cousin he believed a fallacy. And tell Won--" holding her cries, Hyejin sniffed like it's difficult to breathe. "Tell him I didn't mean to wish him harm, that I understand why he did it. I do understand now why he had to leave me. I was so stupid for giving him false claims. He can breathe easy now. I'm flying back to Poland, giving my dreams a second chance.
Yuki let out a sympathetic sigh. "I'm sorry. But I know you know from the very start that falling in love with an idol is mostly bound to fail. Lucky are the ones who makes it. I really do hope everything is well when I get back, that Hoon didn't find out. If that happens, whatever you told me will be our best kept secret. You can count on me on that. I still wish you well, Park Hyejin. Go chase your dreams."
She see herself carrying a heart of stone. She seldom cry but that night was an exception. Her cries, felt like sharp knives bringing more pain and isolation. It's so hard to battle her inner storms, so she finally let it out, tears came as if her pain had at last condensed into a deluge of rain. At long last, it came, sluggishly, like her accumulated ocean brine was streaming through.
She's going back to Poland, a choice that comes with an aching heart and wondered if she would ever recover.

He left his heart and thoughts back to where he have left Hyejin. Never before had Jungwon noticed how time can pass so slowly, a drop at a time, even freeze, or rush by in a blink. They are home but didn't even know how they got home. But one thing's for sure, she wished him hell and he heard it all, loud and clear. Wishes do come true as they say, his own piece of hell starts the moment he turned his back on Park Hyejin.
"Go inside now, Won. I'll just send Aerin home and I'll come back for you." Heeseung is trying hard to commiserate by patting his back.
"Maybe I'll just take the cab, babe. I'll call you when I'm home." Aerin showed more sympathy, urging Heeseung to assist the befuddled Jungwon.
"Are you sure? I'm so sorry, baby. I'll make it up to you when everything's settled. I promise."
Taking his steps inside, Jungwon cannot help not to feel heartsick hearing the couple's conversation. It wasn't because he is unsupportive of Heeseung and Aerin's smooth sailing relationship but because he experiencing an emotional blast, like his heart been inflammed and violently burst.
He opened the door and found Sunghoon sitting in a dimly lit living room, motionless, in deep thoughts. Jungwon ceased his feet for another step as tension covered him unexpectedly.
"Hyung." his greeting come a bit shaky, as if the tremble is just so difficult to control. "It's late. Why are you still here?"
It's not an absurb question because Sunghoon is staying on the other dorm where Heeseung, Jay and Ni-Ki resides. A greeting smile didn't come instead Sunghoon's face turned hard and stony and an uncharacteristic display of temper appeared despite his stubble.
"You need to sleep, Hyung. Let's talk in the morning. I need to catch some sleep too."
"You're the type of person who cared less about sleep and how funny you wanted it now."
"Sunghoon Hyung-"
Aggressively, Sunghoon's hand rises upward, revealing his phone, showing a footage of him and Hyejin entered her flat and another one of him leaving the next morning. For a moment, Jungwon didn't like how his heart stopped or how his breath had labored. His eyes almost as still as some bill board poster.
"Tell me the truth and quit lying." Park Sunghoon madness reflected into his fuming eyes and from right there, Jungwon knows he is in deep trouble.
With his congenital fangs ready to bite, Sunghoon uttered the words that made him shake with fear.
"Did you enjoy sleeping with my cousin, Yang Jungwon?"
