Chapter 28. The Belief

The rink suddenly appears to have sprung into existence solely for the couple kissing so tenderly, their faces smeared with the wintry gifts of ice. Jungwon's hands, gently in her hair, Hyejin's upon his chest. They have wanted a love such as that for they didn't know when, it's simply that they weren't able to, as if their souls went in different course and it took time to go back. Then, there they are, back in each other's arms, as if fate have put them back together, girded with God's whisper and a four leaf clover.
Hyejin had always dreamt and imagined of things about their next kiss, will it come round again? If so, will it be short and small, magical and dreamy? Is it just the way it had felt before? And yes, evidently, it is still the same - more ardent, close to say, maturely fierce.
There is something so heavenly about the way Jungwon kiss, the kind that send her mind spinning, so close to lose her memory once more. She was quickly immersed by intense warmth, a tender moment that just won't wait. It is a connection that shows the strength of the feeling, their mutual need.
The immeasurable joy is beyond belief, nearly putting her needed words in a jumble. All she could think in that moment is - it is real. He was the man that kissed her before and kissed her again after so much wishing. So many questions she wanted to ask but her words went astray, nothing else matters but the pleasure of his warm mouth pressing on her lips and his steady breaths crawling around her face.
Hyejin's arms are now clinging around his neck and Jungwon is now totally absorbed by the smooch, as his kiss goes fervent and a little bit hasty causing the soft moan to escape on her mouth. Good Lord, it's glorious, sumptuous, romantically enthralling.
Finding their pace she can now prove to herself what a good kisser the leader cat is, clearly the chance she missed before because she let herself got stewed. But then, at a drop of a dime, a sudden of trail of disturbance took their focus to go in a sudden stop. The clanging of the security gate being unfastened made them both to leap in surprise but stayed near at hand, as if no one could ever break them apart.
"Oh! Someone still here?" the security blurted in surprise. "I'm checking the area. I thought everyone already left."
Being caught out in the middle of an intimate moment is the last thing Jungwon had wished for. After all the bumps and hurdles they came across, what Hyejin needs is his loving shield from outside forces that could bring a potential risk for both of them. He took her hand, grabbed her stuff fast and they stormed their way out of the arena as his leader instinct automatically kicks in. After feeling the safeness he ought to find, he faced Hyejin with a intensely concerned eyes.
"I'm sorry." Jungwon gently hushed, his hand clothed Hyejin's startled face. "But I'm not sorry for kissing you." he was quick to reconcile.
"I am sorry I shouldn't jist kiss you anywhere but I just can't stop myself. I missed you too much, Hyejin-a. And I want to make things right this time. Please, let me."
For no other on earth would he beg, but there he is, pleading like it's his last resort. He once couldn't understand why Lee Heeseung turned into a hopeless romantic freak, almost risking his thriving career just to be with Choi Aerin, and now he finally had a grasp. Love is such a powerful thing. It's a force more formidable than any other, powerful enough to transform anyone in a moment. For those days he misses her, his heart broke every single day. It broke until all that remains are painful fragments. Having her back means his heart finally mend.
Looking at Jungwon's solemn stares, Hyejin was mixed with wonder and awe. It's as if anything he would say she'll just weakly succumb to his pleads. It's something she cannot understand, not anytime soon, but whenever she's with him, she's susceptible to an emotional attack, becoming the most vulnerable person to ever exist.
"Come with me."
"W-Where?"
But the response she got was a soft laugh, the kind of laugh that showed the happiness she longed to see, the one she most probably missed. Coming back to his old self, Jungwon pulled her close - close enough not to escape on his arms, tight enough to suppress the cold running on her skin.
He loves late night walks and he decides to grab the given chance. They went to take the late night stroll down in the boulevard, hands joined together while she dissolved in his titters. The chemistry was instantly back, it sparked like a book of matches, battering the absolutely freezing cold.
"Wait. Isn't this--?" looking at the doorway to where they set their feet into, Hyejin was surrounded by complete hesitation.
"Let's make this official. Sunghoon Hyung deserves to know we're dating."
She have seen so many pictures where the background is blurred, where the only part in focus is the person whom is pictured. That was him and his unbosomed feelings. Every other detail of that place went in a blur as every part of her focused in every inch of him.
"I--" Hyejin stumbled for an answer, mind's was put in a light trance. "I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything but yes." Jungwon chuckled, pulled her hand as he plants light kisses on it.
She saw his chest altered as he drew a deep sigh. As they gear up to enter the door, Hyejin can sense Jungwon's nerves going erratic. He may not say it but she knows he's shaking in his shoes for they never know what's waiting for them behind the close door.
"Don't laugh at me, pretty queen." he anxiously hushed while nervously tapping his foot on the solid ground.
"Where have the fierce leader cat gone? Oh, he's trying to hide behind my back." Hyejin pulled a jest.
With his heart out of his mouth, Jungwon paved their way in, only to experience the most startling surprise of his life. His member's joyous wails made him and Hyejin shrieked in surprise, as if they are all eagerly waiting for that moment to come.
"See? I told you all he's coming home with someone!" Jay jumped out of his feet, seriously edging out.
"Naur way! I said Won's not coming home without Park Hyejin. I was specific!" Jake eagerly stressed out.
"Ya, I said that first! Come on!" Heeseung shouts back like aiming for a prize.
"Will you all stop the bickering? It was me who first stated that Jungwon Hyung is coming home with Hyejin Noona. Clearly, the maknae is the winner here." Ni-Ki tried to put an end to the argument.
"Aish, you bunch of fools." Sunoo voiced out, pulling a wry face. "Your context are all the same. Won's home and he's with Park Hyejin. What's there to argue about?"
"Wait." Jungwon punctuated their argument. "Did you made a bet on us?!" his lowered brow and narrow eyes show that he was in disbelief with what he had heard.
"Clear as ice. I can't believe they took a flyer on something that's totally obvious." Sunoo is shuddering with his giggles.
"Yang Jungwon." out from nowhere Sunghoon suddenly appeared, eyes were icy as snow, putting them all in immediate tension. "We need to talk."
"Oppa, I can explain. We--" Hyejin tried to break in but was cut short.
"Sunoo, please get something for Hyejin to make her warm. I need to have a word with Won."
Sunghoon went to open the glass door onto the balcony, Jungwon followed fast like his life is on the line. He already went two strikes and third offences are punished very severely, he won't lose the last card out.
"Hyejin and I are together now, Hyung. I'm not asking for your acceptance or anything. I just want to tell you the truth this time. And no, I won't make her cry, not anymore. You can trust me on this."
Sunghoon lowered his chin and simpered. "Do you know the contemplating belief about dancing in the Matchmaker's Ball?"
"T-The Matchmaker's Ball? What about it? That was a long time ago. I thought you want to talk about me and Hyejin." Jungwon was confused by Sunghoon switching gears all of the sudden.
"You can call the dance absurd, like, what's the sense of putting strangers as partners, that's a baloney, right?"
"The dance and it's rules may be a little weird but I won't call it foolish. Dancing with Hyejin back then is something I considered as one of my happiest nights but I don't understand why we are going back in time that had gone by, Hyung."
"It's gibberish, the very reason why I avoided it but--" Sunghoon continued like it was the most important matter to discuss.
Jungwon was so confused that he felt his brain straggle back. He's holding his breath in pp agitation looking at Sunghoon's collected stares.
"It's not just an ordinary dance nor one silly game, it is firmly embedded in belief and tradition having a persistent influence. The dance has a kind of power bringing two people together just like what happened to my parents and maybe at least 80% of couple in my town. In your particular circumstance, you and Hyejin danced together. And the pondering belief is, whoever dances in the Matchmaker's Ball are meant to be together."
Never did he heard Sunghoon talked so seriously and his remarks left him beyond speechless. Jungwon blinked rapidly, as if mind's struggling to reconcile reality.
"It's something I know that I cannot push to say. My pride and my protective instinct took over me and as an older brother, my first impulse was to protect you both, but I guess I give up now. I can't fight your destiny nor twist the fate that belongs to you. So be happy with Hyejin, Won. Please take care of her."
"Hyung--”
He heard Sunghoon laughed looking at his eyes wide with astonishment, surprise momentarily rendering him immobile. Sunghoon placed his one hand on Jungwon's shoulder and patted his back, and whispered something that puts the leader in another blow.
"I got to tell you a secret." Sunghoon gave him a jeer, his face turned instantly pensive. "Ever wondered why Ahn Minhyun dramatically dissipated?"
"Yeah. W-What happened to him?"
Sunghoon let out a sneer, clear enough to tell he's so proud of himself. "I took Ahn Minhyun out of the picture. I came to realize I never liked anyone for Hyejin but only you. So do your part as Hyejin's boyfriend, leader cat. Protect my cousin in the company of Ahn Minhyuk. I don't trust him either. My instinct is telling me he's up for some harsh play."
