Chapter 29
FREYA
"The food is ready!" I heard Manang Yolly's voice. This is how we call them— if an elderly person wants to address them with respect. Manang Yolly walked towards the dining table but Padzul got up and talked to Manang. Until she gave the plates to Padzul.
"Ooh! Thank you dear for that. Now the food is on serve. Enjoy. If you want something— wait, I'll get the other foods," Manang Yolly said but Padzul decided to follow her back to the Kitchen. Raven and I left at the dining table.
"What made you decide to go here?" I asked him. He looked at me and tried to get some fried fish.
"I don't know. Maybe I need to go here," he answered. I got suspicious and my eyes narrowed at him. He doesn't seem like lying to me.
"Are you sure about that? Hmmmm," I smirked but he didn't respond. Well, I decided to pick something— this tuna mixed in egg. It looks delicious. I also scoop the fried rice that Manang Yolly prepared for us.
I tasted it and made my eyes close and felt good. "This is so yummy!" I thought as I'm having a cloud nine to taste Manang Yolly's dishes.
"It's good right? It's exactly the same food. I miss this," Raven said in a low voice but I heard it and looked at him. I was about to speak when I heard Padzul's voice who was laughing and also Manang Yolly.
"You're funny dear. You should eat before Young Master wouldn't leave you some food," Manang said to Padzul laughingly.
Padzul acted like he was sad about it, "Manang, just cook for me only. Let Raven eat that— so he was not special as I am," he spouted.
He was acting like a child to Manang Yolly which made him entertain Manang. I'm smiling at Padzul when I heard Raven. "Whatever, Padzul. Come here, Manang, you should eat with us. And also Manong Doning— you. Padzul. Call Manong to join us," ordered him.
Padzul narrowed his eyes and raised his eyebrow. But he sighed and walked out. Only three of us left here in the dinning room where Manang Yolly sits beside me. "Manang?" I called her. She looked at me and smiled.
"What is it dear?"
"Can I ask? How long are you taking care of this house?" I suddenly wondered about it. Especially curious on how they will maintain to clean this house. It was a huge place and there some things were untouched.
"Hmmm? I don't know exactly. I didn't even meet Doning. I was already a housekeeper in this resthouse. It used to be Fernando's house," she answered.
My eyes widened, "Fernando? Who is he?" I curiously asked her.
But someone butt-in and I heard Raven, "My Grandfather," he answered then he got back to eat.
My mouth twitched at what Raven said. "So this is Raven's grandfather's rest house. Now I know," I thought.
"Yes. Fernando. In his youth days he was so handsome like Raven. But knowing his family is dangerous— they are scary. I'm thankful that Fernando and the young Master are not that bad unlike the others," Manang Yolly confessed.
I was shocked to learn about it. I looked at Raven but he didn't bother him. He continues to eat as if he was not affected. But I noticed that he was listening to Manang's story. "Then? What is something about Raven's grandfather?" I asked Manang Yolly again.
She was shy and giggled but she picked the plate on the table and started scooping some rice. "You know, Fernando? He was the kindest person you've met. He was like Raven, handsome— very handsome and scary to meet him. But if you know him. Eventually, he will approach you. When he started to build this house I was the one who catered. And I promised him that I will not leave this place. He said that he would gift this to the Young Master. B-but that's the time when . . . he died," Manang's saddened about it.
I didn't respond about it but I feel sad also for Raven who'd stop eating and tell us that there's something he remembered. I mouthed, "you okay?" But he shook his head.
I tried to avoid the topic, "Manang—" I was about to speak when I heard Padzul's voice.
"Freya. Don't tell that to Doning. He will be jealous," laughingly, Manang said and spank me at my elbow weakly. I nodded and laughed at her.
"Yes. Yes. That would be a secret," I whispered but she giggled.
While there, we decided to eat. I noticed that Raven was quiet the whole time. I feel bad that we talked about his grandfather and he seems special to Raven. Not only I've known the side story of Manang Yolly but seeing his reaction . . .
He was affected.
Padzul decided to wash the plates and told us to go back to the beach. Manang Yolly and Manong Doning decided to go back to their house since they need to take care of their grandchildren. I smiled and thanked Manang Yolly for our food.
"I'll come back here for dinner. Maybe I'll bring my grandchildren here to get to know you. Freya, please take care of Raven. He may be like that but he was really kind. His family might be dangerous but keep him," Manang pleaded. But I smiled but didn't respond.
I looked at Raven at the shore and he was alone there. But he looked back— when our eyes met and signaled me to come over. So, I looked at Manang and hugged her. "I will. Thank you, Manang," I whispered.
"You're welcome."
I decided to go to Raven. I got into him and thought, "did you already put on sunscreen." I asked him.
He frowned and was confused about it. "Sunscreen? For what use?" I wondered. My eyes widened and didn't expect that he doesn't know any products for skin care.
He shook his head and was still frowning like I asked him if that was foreign in his mind. "Don't bother. Wait. I'll be right back," I said to him and ran towards his house to smear his skin.Download Novelah App
