I waited for a gunshot, to splatter my head to none existence, but it never did, yet he never left, the gentle breeze that was on the air seized and I look like I have the strength to stand up from the floor. How?, What is going on?, The time just stopped again, but this time, I am not the one in control, I lost control of the time during my rough fall but how is this happening?.
“ Sometimes you've got to break the rule to protect a person who's not worth it.....”
I heard his voice behind me, an old man's voice, Chronos. Turning around, I saw him standing right behind me, I walked to him, really surprised that he was here, thought I wouldn't ever be seeing him again, I am really happy to see him here, would be glad if he could do anything to get me out of this mess.
In his hand was a chain, linked to a wall clock which hangs beside his leg, he wasn't looking pleased, not that I expect him to, knowing that I might've done something wrong, but if he can fix this, I will be more careful from next time.
“ I am Sorry about not being too cautious, I never saw the car coming my way from the side, it was too fast.....”
I explained, trying to give him a reason to understand that this wasn't actually my fault, it just came to happen all of a sudden, without me reading the signs earlier.
“ You might as well look behind you.....”
He said, making me look back from where I just stood up from. Oh my God, oh shit, I turned around to him, shock written all over my face like I just wasn't expecting what I just saw. “ Wait!.... Am I Dead?, How come I'm here with you but my body is still down there?.....”
“ All I can say is that if you're dead, then I possibly can't meet with you here, so let's just say, I broke a law to come in between reality, one of the worst of all the laws and the punishment would be big.... Bigger than you can imagine.”
I can see that he was pained, I did really hurt him this time, like I messed up. I could debate that this wasn't my fault, but that would be me being ignorant and arrogant at once, getting the blame away from me despite knowing that all this was because of my recklessness, at this point, I was speechless, speechless because I really messed up big time.
“ What will happen now?....”
I asked, ready to hear whatever he would say, but hoping it's nothing that will relate to this being a game over, it's still too early for that. He just turned his face, looked into my eyes before he decided to speak.
“ Let's take a walk Wilfred....”
He turned around and started walking, I stood there for a bit, turned back, looking at my body lying on the cold floor, so weak and all lost of hope, then I decided to follow suit with him as we walk side by side with each other.
“ You see, there's only one way to stick your head around this, or rather keep your head straight and accept the fate you brought upon us both.... This time, I have no opinion towards this matter, my fate is left in the decision you make, my well being is now in your hands....”
Without telling me what it was actually, I felt like this was going to be too much weight on me, can already feel the strong burden on my shoulders. Guess I'll have to hear him out first.
“ What is it?.....”
I asked, making him to stop, a sigh of exhaustion leaving from his closed mouth, getting his face down and looking at the floor, shaking his head negatively like this was going to be more than I could handle.
“ I don't know why I am even suggesting this, but if things go south, I'll seize to exist entirely, I have already suffered a worse punishment, yet here I am about to drag myself into something worse than before.... You see, I was punished before, because of my desperation with time, I was punished to be stuck in a time zone with no escape until the end of time, no one knows the real me or even what I looked like, I can't even remember myself again, living alone, stuck in nowhere and just ageing, after growing old enough, I will return back to my youth and start afresh, I don't really want to talk about my miseries until now, but when you twisted that clock, getting me to make a deal with you, I have been living my life, enjoying the details of what's in the world, hovering around the planet and learning new things and cultures when you aren't in need of my powers, but with this that just happened, that would be the end of my freedom of exploration. And the option of what to do next, if you happen to make mistakes again, the punishment this time would be I would seize to exist, even my name would be forgotten from few people's mind who have heard about me....”
