Chapter 13
(Back In Time)
************
Toes' Mansion
*************
The room was dimly lit by a lantern hanging on one wall, but it only reached part of the room. Some areas were brightened up, while others stayed dark. It wasn't late at night, as one might assume from the description above, but rather it was still sunny outside, just a yellowish hue of a ripe banana skin. The darkness in the room was due to Doris, who had covered all the curtains to suit her preferences.
She reclined on the bed, her baby bump protruding gently upward, her eyes alert and focused. Her hair cascaded across the bedspread, fanning out like the vibrant feathers of a peacock's tail.
She wore a sleeveless shirt that exposed her tummy to enjoy the cold breeze of the room
Toe walked in, rubbing his palm. He wore a light shirt and trousers. A beautiful smile graced his face as he gazed around the house, envisioning the future of his unborn baby.
He was more than happy, the smile on his face talked about his fatherly feelings. There might be other crazy feelings behind it too but for now, let's focus on the fatherly feelings.
"Angelee," he called. She lifted her body slightly and saw him. She smiled, lay back, and closed her eyes. She was madly obsessed with his presence.
"Baby Toe," she responded pretending to be disturbed by the baby. Maybe she was disturbed by the baby, Only she understood what was going on inside her.
"What's it, Angelee?" He asked getting on his knees.
His mood switched, he was deeply concerned about her. It took him years to feel like a father, even if he's not, yet. He gently rested his hand on her tummy, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears, waiting for the right moment to cascade down.
"The baby wants you." She said joyfully. "Just touch her. She wants to feel your hands moving around her body." She sounded crazy but I don't know if she was crazy. how on earth would someone inside the tummy want a touch? This would be impossible for me if not for you.
"Is that all the baby wants?" He asked expecting more from her.
"Here's the baby oil, rub it on your hands," she instructed. He complied, following her guidance.
With deliberate tenderness, he used his oil-slicked hand to caress her tummy, his touch tracing gentle circles as if painting a masterpiece of affection. She experienced the velvety touch of his hand, the fragrant oil whisked her away to distant realms. Embracing a sense of maternal anticipation, she eagerly awaited the moment when she would cradle her newborn in her arms.
"The baby is enjoying; keep it going." She was drowned in the ocean of sweetness; his hand spun her around like a rollercoaster.
Her voice made him put more skills and effort into rubbing her baby bump to the fullest.
In the tranquil expanse of heaven and earth,
Oh, yet unborn, beneath my hands' soft touch,
I sense your skin, smooth as silk,
Bountiful and fair, akin to Eden's trees.
Like a blossoming flower, you breathe life into mine,
A stream of hope in arid despair,
A verdant oasis in the desert's heat,
Improbable yet tangible, hope blooms.
You complete the halves of my heart,
Oh, cherished little one within.
With a tender kiss upon your brow,
I eagerly await the day to cradle you in my arms.
His hand paused as his phone began to ring; he detested the interruption, yet he knew there was nothing he could do about it.
"Sorry baby." He kissed her tummy and clicked on the green button on the phone to answer the incoming call.
While answering the call his finger was moving on her tummy gently and lovely, he beckoned.
"Yes, sure, I will be there." He hung out the call.
He kissed her feet and rose to his feet. "I have something urgent to attend to, and I will be back in a few hours."
She didn't appreciate the interruption, but she had to let him go since it was very important.
"You're free to go, but don't forget to get the baby flowers," she said, feigning happiness. Deep down, however, she still yearned for his closeness.
"Sure, one for you and two for the baby," he kissed her forehead. "Let me quickly change into something else." He left the room.
After a few minutes, he returned wearing a black shirt, his hair properly arranged. In his hand was a briefcase, he took the car key. "Love you angelee." He said and walked out of the room.
She heard the sound of his car engine. He had left. She was bored and needed someone to talk to. She fought against her exhaustion to sit up in bed, mustering the strength to flick on the room light before wearily rising to her feet, hands resting heavily on her waist. She grabbed her phone, arranged her clothes, and headed outside to the living room. While ambling to the living room, she felt a sharp pain in her backbone. She stopped at the doorway and took a deeper breath. Before taking another step, she felt the pain again in her waist and held the walls for support. She groaned and struggled to cope with the pain, hoping it would increase her chances of making it to the living room.
The pain intensified with each step she took. She halted, lowering herself slowly, clutching her stomach as a wave of discomfort rippled through her—it was the unmistakable sensation of her baby stirring within her.
"Hmmm," she groaned, frustration evident in her voice, as she pressed her phone. Dialing Toes' number, she waited anxiously, but it just rang, unanswered. Trying again, her desperation grew, yet still, there was no response.
She dialed another number. It rang, and she waited, her head throbbing, her vision hazy. Leaning heavily against the wall, she rested her hand on her forehead, feeling the weight of exhaustion, and slid down slowly.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" The voice from the phone pleaded. She fought to respond, but the weight of her burden overwhelmed her. Her eyes fluttered shut as she struggled to utter a word. A hand grasped her shoulder, but by then, her eyes had already surrendered to darkness.

Adam's Mansion
***************
"You're stunning, Veronica," Adam whispered as he delicately arranged her hair, his gaze fixed on her. Veronica, faces him, her fingers gently repairing the worn-out button on his shirt that had caught her attention earlier.
Dressed in a sleek black suit, his hair styled back, his expression blend of cool composure and deep emotion, his attention was solely on Veronica. Her face exuded an undeniable charm, accentuated by the glow of pregnancy that only enhanced her beauty, surpassing any previous radiance.
"Sure, I love you too, Adam," she whispered, lifting her face to meet his gaze, their eyes locking in a silent exchange of affection. As their lips met in a tender embrace, time seemed to stand still, the moment etched forever in their hearts. If a photographer had been present, it would have captured the epitome of love, a snapshot of pure bliss frozen in time.
She broke the kiss and embraced him.
"I will always love you, Veronica, but now it's time," he said softly. "Let's visit RAE, where it all started." He nudged her gently and placed his hand on her shoulder as they walked out of the room together.
............……..
A sleek black automobile sat parked in front of Rae's place, its polished exterior catching the dim light of the street lamps. With its clean lines and glossy finish, it presented an aura of understated sophistication. The car's presence hinted at power and style, while its quiet demeanor suggested a vehicle accustomed to effortless performance. It stood as a silent sentinel, poised and ready to whisk its occupants away on their next adventure, there were a lot of changes in Rae already, the letters were designed with more sparkling fonts. The restaurant's color was changed. The sun was slowly giving space for other heavenly bodies. You know this feeling of meeting a place after a very long year? Then you will understand the newness I'm referring to.
Various musicians skillfully wielded an array of musical instruments, each producing its unique melody, weaving together a tapestry of harmonies that filled the air with enchantment. The road was still busy just like it was still early in the morning.
The left door of the car was pushed open, and Toe alighted, quickly walking around to the right to open the door for Doris, his beautiful pregnant wife. He gently supported her as she exited the car.
"You're such a hopeless romantic, Adam," she teased, her eyes sparkling as she observed him gently closing the door. With a warm smile, he intertwined his fingers with hers, leading her into Rae's restaurant, their love lighting up the evening like a beacon in the night.
Inside Rae, they settled into the same spot where they first met on that magical day of the year. "Do you still recall the moment we first crossed paths?" Adam inquired, his voice tinged with nostalgia and affection.
"Yes, I do. You were wandering, and I, Doris, found you," she replied playfully, a twinkle in her eyes. "And who would have thought that love would guide us to this moment? Soon, we'll embark on the journey of parenthood together."
"Yeah, we will soon be the best parents ever."
Their table was served with different types of dishes. He scooped a little with a spoon and fed her with it.
She did the same to him.
They drank and laughed for some time. Suddenly, she stopped, a sharp pain shooting through her waist. Her mood shifted in an instant, the laughter vanishing as shock registered on her face.
She drops the spoon.
"Are you okay?" Adam asked, concern evident in his voice. Without hesitation, he sprang to his feet and rushed to her side, offering his support.
She felt a sharp kick in her abdomen, causing her to groan in pain. "I'm okay," she tried to reassure herself, but another kick followed, making her swallow hard against the discomfort.
Her voice escaped her mouth as she let out a shout.
"The baby is coming, call an ambulance!" she urgently alerted him, her voice ringing out and catching the attention of other customers nearby.
"I'm with you, Angelee," he reassured her as he supported her. He quickly pulled out his phone and dialed for an ambulance.
Customers at Rae couldn't help but offer their support. They rushed to assist her in any way they could, providing comfort and aid until the ambulance arrived.
The stretcher was pushed out by male and female nurses. She was laid on the stretcher and pushed inside the ambulance.
Adam joined them before the door was closed, quickly taking a seat beside her. He gently clasped her hand tightly, planting a tender kiss on her forehead.
"Baby, we're on our way," the ambulance driver announced as they drove away.
