43. Finally
GENESIS
The last few days had been pretty hectic, with taking care of Elon and attending to Dante. He was doing better now but he was still slightly sick. He now spent more time with her and Elon, and less time in his office. According to him, facing work too much would have his head aching again.
And El, he had been rambling about a lot of stuff since he woke up that morning. And she was there pretending to understand everything he was saying as she massaged his legs.
“And my daddy has been looking at you a lot these days.” Elon dropped out of nowhere.
She looked up at him fast, a deep frown on her face. “What did you say?”
“That my daddy has been looking at you a lot these days.” He shrugged. “Have you not noticed that?”
“He has been around us more lately.” She tried to generalize it. “So, of course, he would be looking at us more.”
But the kid was not having it. “I know what I'm saying. He looks at you even when he's talking to me. Like yesterday, when I pleading with him for a pet, his eyes were—”
“Alright.” Genesis was beginning to feel uncomfortable. This was not the kind of conversation she wanted to be having with the kid. “Let me concentrate on what I'm doing, okay?”
He nodded and focused back on the drawing book that he had in his hands. Now, Genesis could not help but think about what he just said. She had indeed noticed that Dante had made a habit of looking at her these days, and she everything possible to avoid his eyes.
Elon was not even done. He looked up again and asked, “when will you guys have a baby?”
She sighed, wishing the boy would stop asking her such difficult questions. She was his father's wife and, to him, that was just an innocent question. She reminded herself that the boy was still just a kid.
“Whenever we're ready.” She responded.
She had really never thought of having kids with Dante, as this was just a contract for a while. Now, things were changing. They were attracted to each other and things were going to get serious if she decided to give a chance.
“Fair enough.” Elon shrugged. “I’ve always wanted a little brother. I'd show him all my football tricks and we'd play tag, hide and seek, and do many fun things together.” He spoke excitement and Genesis laughed.
“What if you get a sister instead?” She asked.
“Then I'd have play tea with her, play with doll houses, and play princess with her.” He responded. “Unless she likes different things, but I'd do anything she wants with her.”
“That's so sweet, El.” Genesis said to him, her heart swelling.
He smiled widely at her as she went back to massaging his legs. Now, the idea of giving him a sibling did not seem so bad. But she really had to control herself as, despite her attraction to Dante, she was still unsure about him.

He was watering the roses in the garden when she found him. He seemed so much better now since he was now doing his usual activities.
As usual, she was not able to stop herself from feeding her eyes with the sight of his exposed skin. And today, he had not even put on the wife beater top he used to wear, he was shirtless instead.
She swallowed and tried to speak with a firm voice. “Having a cold and coming outside without putting on a shirt is not really the wisest thing to do.” She said from behind him, and she crossed her arms when he turned to look at her.
“Believe me, I feel way better now.” He told her as he let go of the shears. “Look, I'm even sweating a little bit.”
She would be lying if she said she had not noticed his body glistening from sweat, so she nodded, reminding herself that she was there for a reason. She pointed to the bench and said, “Can we sit? I want to talk to you about something.”
“Oh?” He raised his brow, removed his rubber gloves and dusted his hands on his shorts.
He walked beside her and they sat in silence when they got to the bench. She was grateful that he was being patient with her as she was still deciding how to arrange what she had to say. He just sat there, looking at her as she stared at the distance ahead.
Finally, she sighed and spoke. “It's about…” she paused, still unsure as to how to put it. “You and… me?”
His face brightened a little bit as he smirked at her. “What about you and me?”
“I've been thinking about what you said the other day.” She informed him. “About the fact that—”
“I cannot get you out of my head.” He was looking in her eyes. “It has not changed.”
“Yes, I've been thinking about that.” She nodded and exhaled heavily. “Well, the thing is…” She breathed in deeply to summon all the courage she had for what she was about to say. “I feel the same way too.”
“Huh?” Dante whispered, almost as if he could not believe his ears.
“Yeah, I like you.” She nodded. “Like really really, and—”
His laughter cut her off and she frowned, feeling a wave of shame come over her. She knew she shouldn't have done this, she should have known it was too good to be true, now he was here laughing in her face. “I'm sorry, are you laughing at me right now?” She could not help but ask.
He paused when he noticed that she now looked serious. “Oh no, not at all.” He shook his head. “You just looked really cute with your face all red like that.”
Relieved washed over her and she punched his arm playfully, making him resume his fit of laughter. He must have been who Elon had gotten his playfulness from, because right now, he reminded her so much of the kid: his laughter and his childlike grin. She wished he would be like this more often, she would try to bring out this side of him more often.
And when his laughter had died down, he asked, “So do you want to take things further?”
“Yes.” She said, watching his face get brighter, his eyes filled with enthusiasm. “But.” His face dropped and she sighed. “I want us to take it slowly. I've never done this before, this would be my first serious relationship. The first boyfriend I had was when I was sixteen and I cannot even count that as a relationship because it was pointless. I just need you to be patient with me as we learn about each other. I thought of it and decided to give it a try for Elon's sake, and for your sake too. I'm just— this is new, okay? And it'll take some time to get used to this, so please, let's just take things slow.”
He smiled softly at her. “We can go as slowly as you want. I'm not in a hurry either.”
“Thank you.” She smiled at him too.
Now, there was a voice in her head that was reminding her that she was still keeping secrets from him, things that he now deserved to know. But despite her guilt, she insisted that it was not yet time for him to know, dropping the news of her past in him like that would disorient him and she did not want that.
His phone rang and her eyes were on him again. She watched him bring it out of his pocket and answered the call.
“Hello?... I'm listening… Really?... That's great news… We'll be there first thing tomorrow… Alright, my regards to her.”
Then he dropped the call and looked at her. “That was Scar Face.”
She immediately knew that it was going to be new and Sara and she immediately sat up straighter. “What did he say?”
“Sara has woken up.”
She could not believe her ears. This had to be a miracle. Her best friend was finally awake, she was out of the coma. She wanted to get up and scream with joy but she knew that she had to control herself to not spark any suspicious questions from Dante.
“That's great.” She said to him, smiling from ear to ear.
“Yeah. We're going to see her tomorrow.” Dante informed her.
“That would be lovely.” She was still struggling to tame her happiness.
And she could not wait for the morning to come by, she was not even sure she was going to be able to sleep with this kind of anticipation. Finally, she was going to see her friend's eyes open again. Sara was finally out of harm's way. Download Novelah App
