54. No Fun
GENESIS
It was a calm evening and she was out on a stroll. Her head had been a lot more peaceful since she decided that she would just let life take its course. Whatever happened, she was going to accept it as her fate.
But it did not take too long before her legs got tired and she walked to the nearest roadside bench and sat down. She was still within their estate so there was nobody outside at the time. Usually, most people were already inside their homes at this time.
It was windy and she was getting a little bit cold, she regretted her decision to leave her jacket at home. And as she sat there, watching loose pigeons fly and walk around, she wondered what her life would have been like as one of them. Actually, she wished she was one of them. She could not believe that she was at a point where she wished she was born as a freaking pigeon. But who could blame her? All she would have had to worry about was eating and reproducing, not about being kidnapped and forced to be a criminal by her own brother.
She sighed and looked away from the birds, there was no point in wasting her time thinking about Rodriguez anymore. He could do his worst for all she cares. He could force her to go home with him, but he certainly could not force her to soil her hands with his treacherous activities.
Out of nowhere, someone draped a jacket over her and she immediately sat up straighter. When she looked back to see who it was, her blood ran cold and her jaw clenched so tight she thought the joint was going to dislocate.
“You do not look very happy to see me.” He had the balls to smile at her. “Why?”
“What do you want?”
She never thought that the day would come when she would speak to him without fear. It was a surprise to her how she was even able to look him in the eye.
“Ah, Dear Sister.” He walked around the bench and sat beside her, her eyes followed his every movement. “What have I done to deserve this kind of treatment?”
She hated that stupid smile on his face, she hated looking at him, she hated everything about him.
“Have you been following me?” She spoke with so much hatred. “Is that all you do now? Dedicate your time to make sure I'm in misery?”
“I noticed you were cold from a distance, so I brought you my jacket, is that something wrong?” He continued. “The least you could have done was say thank you but it's obvious that you're still an ungrateful brat. Just like how you were when you ran away from home, choosing to not support the family.”
“Yeah, I'm such a terrible person for not wanting to live a life of crime.” She scoffed. “Let me continue being a brat, thank you.”
“Well, that life of crime put food on your table and sent you to highschool.” Rodriguez said to her. “It bought you all the nice things you had and even let you live in luxury like a princess.”
“Did I ask for that?” She questioned him in anger. “I was born into that life. I did not ask for anything, not the money, not the luxury, and definitely not crimes. I did not ask for any of that!”
“That does not matter.” Rodriguez shrugged, undisturbed. “You benefitted from our work so you'll have to contribute one way or another. That's how it has always been in our family and that's how it will continue to be.”
“Well, fuck you and the stupid family.” She spat and all he did was smile at her. She wished she could slap the grin off his face but she had not grown such balls yet.
“You can say that to our father when we get home.” Rodriguez stood up on his feet. “That's if you have the guts to even breathe in his presence.”
She expected him to whip out a rope, or maybe a pair of handcuffs, to tame her and force her wherever he wanted to. But then, he turned and started to walk away.
She frowned, confused as to what was going. It was not like she wanted him to take her, but she had already accepted her fate within her. Was her brother really going to miss the chance to take her away? No. He had to be playing one of his sick games.
“Why won't you just take me now!?” She yelled out that question. “Is it that you're scared?”
He paused and turned to face her again, then walked back to the bench.
“How could a flimsy little brat like you possibly scare me?” He laughed. “And where's the fun in abducting you right now? No drama, no chaos, you know very well that that's not my style, Sister.”
“You're sick in the head.” Genesis spoke through gritted teeth. “You're vile!”
He laughed even more, her anger seemed to be amusing him. “I'll take those as compliments.Goodbye, Sister.”
With that, he turned and continued walking away. She felt so useless being angry that the emotion just melted away. And she began to wonder where he was even walking to. She had half a mind to get up and follow him, but she was sure that he had some men in hiding watching her at that very moment. In fact, she was certain that they had been watching her for a while now, not starting today.
She released a heavy sigh and got up from the bench, deciding to return home. She needed the comfort of her bed at that moment. Not only did her body start aching, her heart also hurt.
It was as she started moving that she noticed that her brother's jacket was still on her. She immediately peeled it off her skin and threw it on the ground, stumping on it as hard as she could. She stumped on it so many times that knees eventually gave way and she fell to the ground, weak and panting.
After a while, when she had finally caught her breath, she got up on her feet and dusted off dirt from her jeans. Then she resumed her slow paced walk back home. All the while, she could not help but think of what plans her brother could possibly have when it came to abducting her. He had said that he wanted drama and chaos. How was he going to go about achieving that?
“Welcome, Miss.” She heard all of a sudden, and that was when her brain registered it that she had just crossed the gate of her home. Her mindless strolling felt very short.
“Hi, girl!” She heard Sara's voice from about a hundred meters away and her neck immediately craned in search of her best friend.
They hugged each other tightly when they were close enough and she was more than happy to see that Sara was already doing so much better.
“What are you doing here?” Genesis asked, pleasantly surprised.
“So I cannot pay you a visit?” Sara pretended to be offended.
“I have not brought you here yet so you're not supposed to know this place.” Genesis reminded her friend with a smile.
“Well, Matthew and I happened to be visiting one of his business partners in this estate, he called Dante and we were invited over.” Sara explained. “Now, stop asking questions.”
Genesis laughed. “How's Matthew? Where's he?”
“He's inside with Dante. I chose to wait for you at the front door.”
“Girl…” Genesis gave Sara a look.
“What?” Sara raised a brow. “I was dying to see you in person and know how you're doing.”
At that, Genesis sighed and began to walk toward the house, Sara falling into step with her.
“I know, there's a lot going on.” Sara said.
“A lot…” Genesis repeated. “I have something to tell you once we get away from all these ears.”
So they both walked in together and found a way to separate themselves from their husbands so that they could talk in private.Download Novelah App
