The Truth

“How are you feeling?”Ashton asked Cara, as his curious mind couldn’t just let it go.
“I feel recharged.” Cara answered with a smirk. Both of them laughed as Cara confirmed her current situation. She knows Ashton is dying to know. “I think we should prepare now for the great conspiracy for the murder of the Sakalam.” She declared as she got off the bed and picked up her clothes on the floor.
Ashton sat up and watched his wife get dressed. “My love, those words do not fail to give me the creeps.” His body shivered just thinking of the possibility. “We should prepare for it, then. What do you have in mind? How can we counter this?” His tone was serious; the death of Cara was no longer inevitable. The only thing that makes him able to breathe fine is the fact that Theo and Thomas are on top of things when it comes to their brothers.
“Don’t worry too much about love. I’m pretty sure Theo will update us if there is anything that we should get notified about.” Cara confidently answered Ashton. She fixed her hair in a high bun as she looked at herself in the mirror. She still could not believe how her hair color changed just like that, matching the colors of her eyes.
Ashton stood behind Cara as he stared at her reflection lovingly. “I think your new hair color suits you very well.” He whispered to her ears.
Cara saw the emotions in Ashton’s eyes; she couldn’t help but feel grateful to have someone like him in her very chaotic life. “I think you suit me very well.” Cara said with a smile. “I’m just so glad you are my husband. Have I told you that already?” She continued with a blush on her face.
Ashton nodded and touched Cara’s face. “You did. I will never forget those words from you. I feel the same. You will never hear this from anyone else, but I am the luckiest servant there is.” He laughed at his own predicament, knowing how he hated his life as a servant.
Cara moved to kiss her husband on the lips.
“Ring, ring.” Cara’s phone rang and both of them laughed as they looked at the caller ID.
“I’m starting to think that Theo is doing this on purpose.” Ashton sneered at Cara.
Cara answered Theo’s call. “Yes, Theo. What’s up?”
“The traitor called us. It won’t be long before we uncover her identity.” Theo was confident it would soon be over.
“Oh, I can’t wait. She will have a really special place in hell.” Cara replied with angst. Theo chuckled at the other end. “What? Why are you laughing at me?” she asked her good friend.
“Well, you are quite feisty. I’ve never heard you say such words.”Theo answered. “She will eventually have to hand the wand to us. You know she can’t kill you, and because of that I will make sure none of my brothers gets to touch it too.” He continued with conviction.
“I trust you and Thomas, Theo,” Cara said in a low voice.
“Knock, knock.” Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by a persistent knocking on the door. Cara was quick to say goodbye to Theo. They did not want anyone to know about their conversations.
Ashton walked to the door to check who it was. He was taken aback to see the person at the door.
“Cara?” Percy shouted her name, completely ignoring Ashton like he was not even there.  She disrespected him in his very home.
Cara moved to the door, but Ashton went in between them. He knows the possibility of assassination of his wife is real. “Don’t come close, my love. You have an agreement with them,” Ashton reminded Cara.
“You let this servant decide for you now?” Percy asked Cara, provoking her.
“Stop it Percy, he is right. We have an agreement, you are not allowed to come near me.” Cara responded equally dominant to Percy.
“Well, we need to talk.” Percy replied to Cara and paused as she glanced in Ashton’s direction. “Privately.” She reiterated her demand.
“What? Why? You know I can’t be away from him for long.” Cara answered Percy with a puzzled look.  “And what happened to staying away from me for the moment?” She raised her voice.
Percy heaved a heavy sigh as she reached for her back.
Ashton saw her and instantly tucked Cara behind him.
“Really?” Percy cackled and shoved her wand into Ashton’s chest. She looked at Cara. “You trust this man enough with your life, right?” She stormed inside the room. Percy placed her hand on her hips as Cara looked at her in complete awe. “Now, can we talk privately? You are stronger than me; you can kill me anytime you feel threatened.” She was straight to the point.
Cara looked at Ashton and nodded at him. “I can take it from here. Hold on to that wand for me, love.” She held his face lovingly. “Can you barge back in after ten minutes?” she requested Ashton asked sure he did not get hurt in the process.
Ashton bobbed his head and walked out of the door like he was told, not wanting to give a hint about his immunity to Cara’s persuasion.
Percy sneered, watching the couple's sweet encounter. She took out a book from her bag. “I’m going to make this quick.” She was straightforward.
“Go ahead.” Cara replied as bland as possible.
“You can read it but I will give you a summary,” Percy responded confidently. “Ashton is lying to you. He does not love you.” She said directly to Cara.
Cara’s jaw dropped hearing how Percy smeared Ashton’s name. “Percy, I know you don’t like him. I know this was taboo in the earlier days… but he loves me and I love him.” She replied as she was trying her best not to cry. She was not ready for this type of confrontation.
Percy shook his head. “He is taking you for a ride. Taking advantage of your innocence, we don’t know if he is one with the traitor, since he can’t be truthful to you.” She replied in a lower voice. The weakness shown by Cara somehow melted her offense.
“He will not do that. Ashton and I, what we have is something true.” Cara said softly, trying to make Percy see how genuine her love for Ashton was.
“I know you love him, but dear, Ashton is not capable of love. All servants are, even to their own families.” Percy finally dropped the answers on Cara like bombs that detonated on her chest.
“What?” She wanted clarification from Percy.
“It’s not that he does not love you per se, but he can’t love you. Read that book.” Percy moved closer to Cara and tapped her shoulder before she moved towards the door. “Be careful, he might be one of the enemies.”
“Wait... does he know?” Cara inquired again.
“Ask him. Although he can lie whenever he says he loves you, when you compel him to tell you the truth he won’t be able to lie to you.” Percy gave Cara an impeccable plan before she left the room.
