Chapter 78 Him or me

The children continually asked for her and Mr. Martini came to rush them back to their bedrooms. They then dried themselves off in their own quarters and after packing her stuff. a knock came on her door.
She opened it and saw Fedel. She sighed, “Is it time?”
He nodded, “The duke is already waiting by the door. We need to leave discreetly before the children notices.”
She sighed, it would be hard to say goodbye. So it’s best to leave without them knowing…
“You can get my things now. But let me do something first.” Fedel nodded, starting to carry her suitcase outside as she sat by the side table with pen and paper in her hands.
She began to scribble some words. A parting letter for the children.
Standing up, she then took a last look at the room. It was a short trip here but meeting the children was fun and she will cherish it forever. To think she was not much of a children's lover at first.
She walked towards the back door where their carriage and Raziel’s horse Tiberius were.
Mr. Martini was saying something to Raziel and as soon as she stepped in they stopped.
She raised her eyebrow, finding it a bit strange but then approached Mr. Martini.
“Take good care of the children, Mr. Martini, and kindly read this letter for them once they wake up?”
He nodded as she slipped the letter.
Raziel looked at the sky and motioned for her to get in the carriage, “We need to leave now.”
She nodded and accepted his hand to get inside the carriage now. She opened the window to get a last look at the place and Raziel got inside. The carriage then started to move.

After having a few stops and tracks on the way, the carriage stopped. Duke Raziel raised his eyebrows and took a peek outside, ordering Fedel who it was.
After a few seconds, the carriage door opened and Fedel revealed a frail-looking man about 40 years old, “I found him on the road. He knows the witch.”
“Help us, duke. Our kingdom is dying. We are enslaved by the witch.”
Raziel instantly pointed his sword at the man, “Do you swear you are telling the truth?”
The man begged, “Yes, please!”
Raziel clenched his jaw, “We’ll believe you for now, but once we know you tried to trick us, then we won’t get easy on you.”
Instead of going to the south to get near the strongest mage's territory, Raziel changed his course and went to where the man was directing them. To the Lumen Empire to the north, where Prince Avelina’s country is.
“Why help him? We are near to finding the mage.” Fedel mumbled and Raziel glanced at me. “We have to get Titus there.”
Vienna nodded. When nighttime came, Vienna noticed how Duke Raizel wasn’t sleeping. She found him throwing stones by the river and gazing at a distance, with only the moonlight appearing.
Vienna cleared her throat to get his attention, “You need to sleep.”
Duke Raziel turned his head, “So should you.”
Sitting beside him, Lady Vienna asked, “What are you thinking?”
Duke Raziel smiled bitterly, “How you’re busy thinking about Titus.”  He replied instantly.
Vienna blinked. So he’s been jealous all this time about Titus?
“I’m just worried for my knight.” Vienna sighed.
Raziel turned to gaze at her eyes, “Then why can’t you worry about me like that?”
Vienna blinked, “That is..a different matter. My concern for you and Titus is different-“
“Him or me?”  He suddenly dropped, making her pick.
Viena’s mouth gasped in shock, “What kind of question-“
“Just choose between us.” He interjected, not letting her finish the sentence. He was gazing at her with such a heavy look now.
Biting her lip, Vienna looked away from him. “Of course..it’s…I can’t decide yet.”
Duke Raziel heaved a sigh and stood up, “Then goodbye.”
Goodbye? Lady Vienna watched as Duke Raizel stood by the edge of the cliff.
Raziel’s robes fluttered in the distance as the wind blew softly, the moonlight offering a reflection.
Duke Raziel gave. Last look at her, muttering, “Goodbye…Vienna.” Before dropping himself to the cliff.
Lady Vienna’s heart dropped, along with her mind.
Wait a minute…
She instantly stood up and ran to see where he fell. “Raziel!”
“You bastard! How can you leave me like that! What kind of dumb questions was that?” Lady Vienna cried out in anger against the darkness, contemplating if she should jump after him and look for his body.
Drawing a heavy breath, she yelled in the silence, “It’s you! It’s you, Duke Raziel! You bastard!”
A sudden huge breeze of wind appeared, along with the sound of wings flapping below the cliff. When Lady Vienna took a peek, she saw it was a familiar black dragon, looking at her with a smirk.
Lady Vienna sighed in relief, seeing Raziel now in his dragon form. “You tricked me!”
She muttered a curse, forgetting how he could turn into a dragon in the night.
What a great way to embarrass yourself, Vienna.
Raziel decided to land on the ground beside her and commented, “I knew you would choose me, Vienna. You were scared to see me die just like that.”
Her cheeks were so red by now and she tried to hide it through her red hair, “No I’m not.”
Duke Raziel just chuckled, “Alright, with that answer, I’ll give you a ride for the night.” He then motioned to his wings, “Hop in.”
Although embarrassed, passing this opportunity would be such a waste.  Lady Vienna instantly hopped on his back as Raziel took off.
It was a peaceful night for them, and this bridged their awkwardness with each other. Too peaceful that Lady Vienna wanted to stay like this forever.
Out of all the moments they have, she surely loves this kind where Raziel takes her out on a tour on his back. She gets to see the city at night when people are usually asleep. She gets to have her freedom. And the cold wind massaging her skin, giving goosebumps was satisfying.
