Chapter 02

Days passed and Sadie already found a place to stay, it was sponsored by the hospital to all the new nurses that accept their proposal.
Sadie arrives at Tranquil Valley Hospital, her heart fluttering with a mix of nerves and excitement. She walks towards the main entrance, eager to start her new journey as a nurse in this prestigious institution. As she approaches the elevator, she takes a deep breath, feeling a surge of anticipation.
Just as Sadie reaches for the elevator button, a large group of people rushes in from all directions, heading for the same elevator. Startled, she steps back to avoid the crowd, but in the commotion, she accidentally bumps into a tall, dark-haired man in a white coat.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" she said.
The man smiles warmly, his eyes meeting Sadie's, and she feels an instant connection. As the crowd squeezes into the elevator, She sees her ID badge dangling from her lanyard, and it slips off unnoticed in the chaos.
"No worries. It's quite busy around here. Are you new?" the doctor asked.
"Yes, I just started today. I'm Sadie, the new nurse." she said.
"Nice to meet you, Sadie. I'm Dr. Ryan Carson. Welcome to Tranquil Valley." he offered his hand.
Sadie shakes his hand, feeling a sense of comfort in his presence.
"Thank you, Dr. Carson. I'm excited to be here." she said.
As the elevator doors close, Sadie realizes her ID badge is missing. She glances around but can't spot it among the crowd. Dr. Carson notices her concern.
"Is something wrong? Can I help?" he asked, but Sadie is worried about her ID. Their id was given to them as soon as they arrived at their place.
"I think my ID badge fell off. I need it to access certain areas." she said.
"Don't worry; we'll find it. Let's check the floor once the elevator clears out." the doctor said.
The elevator dings as it reaches the desired floor, and the crowd begins to disperse. Dr. Carson helps Sadie search for her badge, and after a few moments, he spots it lying near the elevator doors.
"There it is! Looks like luck was on our side." the doctor said pointing his finger near the elevator doors.
Sadie picks up her ID badge, feeling grateful for Dr. Carson's help.
"Thank you so much, Dr. Carson. I appreciate your assistance." she said
"No problem at all. If you ever need any help or have questions, don't hesitate to ask. We're all here to support each other." he said.
Sadie nods, feeling a renewed sense of reassurance about her decision to join Tranquil Valley Hospital. As they walk together down the hallway, she feels a growing connection not only to the hospital but also to Dr. Mitchell, who seems genuinely caring and welcoming.
Sadie and Dr. Carson continue their conversation, heading towards the nursing station where she'll receive her first assignment as a nurse at Tranquil Valley Hospital, ready to embark on her new chapter with excitement and a newfound friendship.
Sadie POV
I didn't expect that my first time in here would be in that way.
well atleast i met someone.
We stop infront of the nurse station.
"Thanks again doc, i'll go now, uhm see you around? i guess." i smiled at him.
"alright, goodluck sadie, see you around" he said and left.
i entered the station to get my assignment for today.
"uhm, excuse me?" i asked the nurses here.
"I'm about to get my assignment where is your..."
"Sadie Llave?" before i can finish my word, another nurse interrupt us.
"yes?" i smiled at her.
"oh Ms. Rhea said that i'm the one assigned to assist you, what do you need? i'll get it for you" she said.
"oh uhm, i just need my assignment for today i was wondering where could i found your.."
"ahh if that's the case, come here i'll show you." she said and i just follow her.
"here" she gets my folder and gave it to me.
"thank you" i said.
"who is your first patient?" she asked.
"uhm it was Lolo Ben? from room 240" i said.
"ohh lolo Ben, alright goodluck. if you need anything you can ask me" she said.
"okay, thankyou" i said and left the station to proceed to my patient.
As I entered the hospital room, the sterile scent of antiseptic filled my nose, and the soft hum of medical equipment filled the air. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my emotions, knowing I had to remain professional. This was my first time meeting Lolo Ben, my new patient, who had been admitted due to cancer.
Lolo Ben was sitting on the bed, wrapped in a thin hospital gown that barely concealed the frailty of his body. His warm smile greeted me as I approached him. "Hello, dear," he said softly, his voice tinged with a mixture of fatigue and kindness.
"Hello, Lolo Ben," I replied, trying to match his warm demeanor. "I'm Sadie, one of the nurses here. I'll be taking care of you during your stay."
His eyes sparkled with appreciation, and he nodded gently. "Thank you, Sadie. I'm grateful to be in such caring hands."
I smiled, though a knot of sorrow tightened in my chest. It was never easy to see someone facing such a difficult battle, especially when they were as kind and gentle as Lolo Ben. But I had to be strong for him.
"I'll do my best to make you as comfortable as possible," I assured him, pulling out the medical chart to review his case.
As I asked him some routine questions about his medical history, I couldn't help but notice the small family photos on the bedside table. They showed a smiling, happy man surrounded by children and grandchildren, each photo capturing cherished memories. I wondered how he must feel, facing such a serious illness and leaving behind a family he undoubtedly loved dearly. As the conversation continued, Lolo Ben spoke fondly about his family, their achievements, and the love they shared. Despite the pain and uncertainty, his face lit up when he mentioned them, and it was evident that they were his source of strength.
"I have a wonderful family," Lolo Ben said, his eyes misting with emotion. "They've been my rock throughout this journey."
I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. "They love you very much, Lolo Ben. And we'll do everything we can to support you."
Our eyes met, and in that moment, I felt a profound connection with this gentle soul. I couldn't help but feel the weight of the situation, the unfairness of it all. But I knew I had to stay strong, to be the source of comfort and care that Lolo Ben needed.
As I finished checking his vitals and adjusting the IV, I couldn't help but think about the journey that lay ahead for both of us. The road wouldn't be easy, but I was determined to be there for Lolo Ben every step of the way.
"I'll be back to check on you later, Lolo Ben," I said, giving him a reassuring smile."Thank you, Sadie," he whispered, his hand reaching out to gently touch mine. "Your kindness means the world to me."
I blinked back tears, overwhelmed by his gratitude. "You're welcome, Lolo Ben. We'll get through this together."
As I stepped out of the room, I couldn't help but carry the weight of Lolo Ben's struggle with me. But I also felt a renewed sense of purpose and determination. Being a nurse meant more than just administering treatments; it meant being a source of comfort, hope, and strength for those who needed it most. And for Lolo Ben, I was ready to be exactly that.
I'm on my way to my next patient when i notice that all the nurses are in a hurry.
"hey, what's wrong?" i asked the nurse who is coming my way.
"there was a bus accident nearby"
My heart skipped a beat as I heard the nurse's hurried words. A bus accident nearby? The gravity of the situation sank in immediately. Without hesitation, I followed the nurse to the scene, my mind racing with thoughts of how many patients might need help and the severity of their injuries.
As we arrived at the chaotic scene, I saw several ambulances and emergency personnel already attending to the injured. The sight was overwhelming, and I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins.
"Sadie, we need all hands on deck!" one of the senior nurses called out, quickly directing the medical staff to various patients. I nodded, knowing that every second counted in situations like these.
I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the task ahead. I immediately jumped into action, assessing patients, administering first aid, and coordinating with the paramedics to prioritize the most critical cases.
Amidst the chaos, my thoughts flickered back to Lolo Ben, hoping he was stable and receiving the care he needed. But there was no time to dwell on that now; I had to focus on the emergency at hand.
As I moved from one patient to another, my training and instincts took over. It was a whirlwind of emotions and challenges, but I kept reminding myself to stay calm and collected.Time seemed to blur as we worked tirelessly to stabilize the injured and prepare them for transport to the hospital. The cries of pain and anguish echoed in the air, making it even more imperative that we acted swiftly and efficiently.
As I tended to one particularly critical patient, I couldn't help but think about the fragility of life. One moment, Lolo Ben was lying in his hospital room, bravely fighting cancer, and the next, I found myself in the midst of a tragic accident, fighting to save lives shattered by an unexpected disaster.
Hours passed, and it felt like an eternity as we worked tirelessly to stabilize the wounded and coordinate their transportation to the hospital. As the ambulances began to leave one by one, carrying the injured to receive further medical care, I took a moment to catch my breath.Exhausted but resolute, I made my way back to the hospital, my mind still swirling with the events of the day. I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to be there for those in need, to use my skills as a nurse to make a difference in people's lives.
As I reached Lolo Ben's room, I was relieved to find him stable, resting peacefully. I took a moment to check on him, adjusting his IV and ensuring his comfort.
In the midst of tragedy, my encounter with Lolo Ben reminded me of the value of every life and the importance of compassion and care. Whether it was a cancer patient like Lolo Ben or the victims of a sudden accident, being a nurse meant being a pillar of strength and support for those facing life's most challenging moments.
As I left Lolo Ben's room, I couldn't help but reflect on the day's events. It was a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the profound impact we, as medical professionals, could have on the lives of others. It was a day I would never forget, a day that reinforced my dedication to my patients and the calling that had led me to become a nurse.
I was already in my condo, after the disaster earlier and all those patient that i need to monitor, gosh im so tired that i needed to rest to gain my energy back. I'm glad that we are able to assist them one by one.
this just happen for one day.
I was laying on my bed when my phone rang.
I didn't even bother to look for the caller, i just answer it immediately, im so tired right now.
[hello? Is this Nurse Sadie?]
"yes, who is this?
[oh, It's me, Dr. Harisson the one who you bumped earlier? I'll just inform you that i have your ID with me, maybe you drop it earlier while we are having chaos inside the hospital]
"ohh i'm sorry about that and thanks God you saw it. uhm I'll just get it tomorrow. Are you available tomorrow?" i asked
[It's fine but My schedule is full tomorrow, so I'll just asked nurse Rhea to give it to you]
"oh alright, thankyou so much doc"
[no problem, i'll hung up now. i still need to finish my reports]
"okay, thank you again"
after that, i put my phone down and turn the lights off so that i can rest.
