Chapter 14

Kieran's journey of self-discovery was not an easy one. The weight of societal expectations and the fear of rejection from loved ones often loomed over him, casting a dark shadow on his path. He yearned for acceptance and validation but found himself constantly navigating a world that did not always understand or accept his identity.
Despite the struggles he faced, Kieran knew that he had a right to privacy and to choose what aspects of his personal life he shared with others. He was not obligated to explain his feelings or sexual identity to the public. He was living his life for himself, not for anyone else.
Fortunately, Kieran had a beacon of hope in the form of his friend, Pharm. Pharm accepted him for who he was, without judgment or reservation. Kieran was grateful for his friend's unwavering support, and it gave him the strength to keep moving forward.
However, not everyone in Kieran's life was as accepting as Pharm. His father could not even bring himself to look at him, let alone accept him for who he was. The pain of rejection from a loved one cut deep, leaving a wound that may never fully heal.
Pharm nodded. "Yeah, I knew that you love Hardin. I noticed it. But, remember it is not good to pretend and hide who truly you are, Kieran. Don't hide in the shadow of your doubt, and do not allow other people to vilify you because of your identity. There's nothing wrong with your sexual orientation, the problem is the vexatious society that always takes away the colors of our existence," Pharm said full of understanding.
Pharm's words resonated with Kieran, piercing through the veil of uncertainty that clouded his mind. His friend's understanding and acceptance of his true self gave him a sense of validation that he had longed for. Kieran had been hiding behind a facade, afraid to reveal his true identity to the world. But now, he realized that he should not be ashamed of who he was.
Pharm's words were powerful and full of deep meaning. He emphasized the importance of being true to oneself and not allowing the opinions of others to dictate one's identity. He highlighted the societal pressures that often silenced the voices of those who dared to be different, robbing them of the vibrant colors that make up their existence.
Kieran realized that he had been living in the shadows of his doubts, afraid to reveal his true identity to the world. But with his friend's support and encouragement, he found the courage to step out into the light and embrace who he truly was. He felt a sense of liberation wash over him, freeing him from the shackles of societal expectations and allowing him to be his authentic self.
Pharm's words were a powerful reminder that everyone has the right to embrace their true identity and live their lives without fear of judgment or persecution. His message of acceptance and understanding resonated deeply with Kieran, giving him the strength to face the challenges that lay ahead.
In a world that often tries to mold us into a predetermined mold, it is important to remember that our differences are what make us unique and beautiful. It is up to each of us to embrace our true identity and live our lives to the fullest.
Pharm comforted his friend Kieran by tapping his shoulder and saying, "And when you realize that you are truly in love with him, I will be happy for you, Nong." He went on to explain that from his perspective, Hardin is not good at expressing his feelings or lacks the courage to do so.
Trying to ease Kieran's worries, Pharm hugged him tightly. It's often difficult to know how someone truly feels, especially if they struggle to communicate their emotions.
However, it's important to be patient and understanding with those we care about. Perhaps with time, Hardin will be able to open up and express his true feelings towards Kieran. Until then, Pharm will be there to support and comfort his friend.
Kieran pulled away from the embrace and was filled with curiosity about what Pharm had just said. He gazed deeply into his friend's eyes and asked, "What do you mean by that?"
Pharm looked back at Kieran with a reassuring smile and replied, "I believe that Hardin has feelings for you as well."
Kieran was taken aback by the statement and dismissed it as a fairytale. However, Pharm encouraged him to forget about it for the time being and ponder it later. To distract Kieran, Pharm took him out of the room and they descended the stairs together.
It's not uncommon to be skeptical about someone's feelings, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. However, Pharm's words may hold some truth, and it's worth considering the possibility that Hardin may have feelings for Kieran. Only time will tell what the future holds for their relationship, but for now, they can enjoy each other's company and support each other through life's ups and downs.
As soon as the two friends exited the room, they headed straight to the house's yard. The outdoor space was simply stunning, with a beautiful table positioned beneath the shade of a cassia fistula tree. The view was breathtaking, and the scenery was so captivating that it felt like time had stopped.
Kieran's eyes immediately caught sight of Hardin, who was busy grilling chicken and pork. A broad smile spread across Kieran's face as he approached Hardin, who returned the smile warmly.
The tranquil setting provided the perfect backdrop for the friends to enjoy each other's company and indulge in the delicious food.
"You mentioned that you were going to grill the pork Tocino, but since you were not able to do it immediately, I went ahead and took care of the grilling." Hardin redirected the conversation towards the succulent chicken thighs and savory pork Bacon that were being cooked over the smoldering coals. "It seemed like you and Pharm were quite close," he observed with a shrug.
As the meat sizzled on the grill, the delicious aroma wafted through the air, causing everyone's stomachs to grumble in anticipation. The sound of laughter and conversation filled the night air, while the stars twinkled in the starry sky above, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere.
With a deft hand, Hardin expertly flipped the seasoned chicken thighs and pork Bacon, ensuring that they were cooked to perfection. In no time at all, the meat was ready, and the delicious aroma wafted through the air, causing everyone's mouths to water.
As Kieran watched, he couldn't help but be amazed at Hardin's culinary skills. He stood there speechless for a moment, processing what he had just witnessed. Taking a deep breath, Kieran finally found his voice and complimented Hardin on his cooking prowess.
Feeling a sense of pride and satisfaction, Hardin turned to face Kieran, only to be surprised when Kieran's palm suddenly reached out to wipe the sweat from his forehead. Kieran of course, was inexplicably drawn to the sight of Hardin's forehead glistening with sweat, and that was the reason why he reached out to wipe it away.
As he brushed his fingertips against Hardin's skin, Kieran felt a sudden rush of emotion that he couldn't quite explain. To his surprise, Hardin didn't flinch or pull away; instead, he simply allowed Kieran to continue tending to him.
As Hardin gazed deeply into Kieran's eyes, Kieran felt his heart skip a beat. He had been nervously fidgeting with his fingers, unsure of how to react to the situation. But as Hardin withdrew his hand and jokingly pinched Kieran's nose, a wave of relief washed over him.
"Jeez, don't be like that because you're even cuter and I might fall in love with you." Hardin joked with him while pinching Kieran's nose. "You're so cute, Nong," he added.
Kieran couldn't help but blush as Hardin complimented him. There was something about the way Hardin looked at him that made Kieran feel like he was the only person in the world who mattered. Despite the teasing tone in Hardin's voice, Kieran sensed a genuine fondness and affection in his words.
As they stood there, caught up in the moment, Kieran felt his heart swell with emotion. He had always admired Hardin from afar, but now that they were so close, Kieran knew that he wanted to be more than just friends.
As Hardin withdrew his hand and bowed his head, Kieran couldn't help but feel a rush of emotions coursing through his body. He was acutely aware of Hardin's piercing gaze, and the intensity of their connection left Kieran feeling vulnerable and exposed.
Despite his efforts to keep his composure, Kieran's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as he recalled Hardin's words. The mere thought of them made his heart race and his stomach flutter with nervous energy.
It was a feeling that Kieran knew all too well. He had been drawn to Hardin from the moment they met, captivated by his wit, charm, and magnetic personality. But as much as Kieran tried to keep his feelings hidden, they always seemed to bubble up to the surface when he was around Hardin.
Now, as he stood there, lost in his thoughts and emotions, Kieran knew that he had to be honest with himself. He couldn't keep pretending that his feelings for Hardin were just a passing fancy. They were real, and they were powerful.
Not this time. He whispered scolding himself.
Kieran remained bowed. He ignored Hardin even as Hardin bent down and brought his face close to Kiersn and his lips were only inches away from Kieran. The flutter in Kieran's stomach accelerated to a full-fledged free-fall sensation.
"Too cute, don't try to pretend that you're disappointed when you're not really, that you're not sulking. Wait, or maybe you took what I said earlier seriously. I was just joking. All I want is for you to grill the chicken and pork Tocino so I can taste your style, but everything is already cooked so it's okay." Hardin smiled.
Kieran was filled with deep astonishment as Hardin's fresh breath kissed his whole face. It felt like a rainbow, a cool inhalation of oxygen from Hardin, and it warms Kieran's soul.

This novel is a masterpiece! The part where Kieran's father accepted him wholeheartedly had me in tears. As a member of the LGBT community, I can understand the pain and struggle that Kieran went through. It's sad to know that this kind of torment still happens in real life, but I'm grateful for stories like this that raise awareness and promote acceptance.
