CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR

Dino could almost not believe his ears after Lati was done narrating his story. He was thunderstruck while Lati's eyes were already gleamed with tears his face portraying deep hurt.
Now Dino clearly understood why Lati despises his family. It was enough reason to. He knew how power striven his father could be but he did not know he could be this cruel and desperate to the extent of killing people.
This same man he called his Father?
"Did my...Did my father really do this?" He queried his tone cracking. He was still dumbfounded
Lati glanced back at Dino, his eyes striking with pain and anger. He said nothing. How silly of this boy to think he would make that story up.
Dino exhaled loudly. His face expressing soberness, he did not know what else to say. His father destroyed Lati's happy home. Killed his pregnant wife, made Mitah motherless. He was certain if Mitah knew this before her death, she would end their relationship. But what if she did? He wondered if she actually knew.
"I am...I am truly sorry General, I didn't...I didn't realize he hurt you this much, please I apologize on his behalf. Please" Dino said genuinely. His face looked sad, expressing profound Sympathy.
Lati rose up from his seat "Really just like that?”Lati muttered.“Your father killed Helena! He killed my wife! and our Six months unborn child alongside. Do you realize how precious Helena was to me?I would sing happily to our baby in her tummy every night!.and he took all that away!”Lati yelled as his tears intensified
Dino glanced at him then he looked down , he was ashamed on behalf of his father. This man he was staring at was not the Fierce and strict ex soldier but a shattered and depressed man who had lost the precious people in his life.
Lati was crying so hard like a baby that his friend, Camp had to console and control him. He was also in utter shock. He knew Lati had always hated Paul Martins but he never knew the reason. He felt so much pity for him
Lati swiftly wiped his face dry with a clean handkerchief Camp had handed over to him, switching to a neutral and serious look as he glanced at Dino.
“Even if I forgive? can I ever forget?! Answer me! Now you know why I have always hated you! It would be a big disrespect to my wife's memory if I allowed you two get married! I will always hate YOUR father till I die!"Lati lamented
"I understand your pain General. It is valid...But can I ask a question if you don't mind?"
Lati gave no response but only further rest his back on the cushion, staring at him
Dino took that as a sign that he could go ahead
"Why did you keep this away for so long, why didn't you mention it all those times I would come to your house? And Mitah, did she..did she also know?"
Lati kept mute for a while. "Mitah did not know, because I did not tell her. I haven't told anyone for thirty years this incident has happened"
"But why?"
Lati stared blankly ".. Because I was threatened by your evil Uncle, and now that I have said it. I doubt neither me nor my old mother is safe anymore"
"What? Which of my Uncles?"
"Majah" Lati uttered with disdain
(Back story from thirty years ago)
Lati stepped foot into his house after a long day at work. He rarely concentrated at the Office as Paul's confession the previous day was still fresh in his memory. He was indecisive and did not know the next step to take to deal with him.
But then,  Lati stood there motionlessly in his sitting room utterly shocked by who he saw. How did he get in? He was very much certain he locked the door.
"How did.. how did you get in here?" He queried
Majah, Paul's twin brother sat down there his legs crossed. His roll of Cigar in his hand and coughing severally. He had been diagnosed of Tuberculosis yet he wouldn't stop smoking. He was a terror.
"Majah, what are you doing here?"Lati repeated again his face Stern, slowly dropping his suitcase and walking towards him. Sighting Majah wasn't always good news. He appeared to cause havoc than good
"I heard you will soon be decorated as a General" He said with a devilish grin "Congratulations"
Lati got infuriated. He was never close to Majah even though he and his brother were best of friends. Majah was a politician  living a rough and notorious life style. -He was a drug and human trafficker but portraying himself as a saint to the Public. However few people close to him and some top influential and powerful people knew how criminal he was.
And now his brother who was his (Lati's)so called friend also hurt him mercilessly by killing his wife. Truly, Lati was burning with anger standing right there.
"I went to see my lovely brother Yesterday, even though he doesn't like to relate with me. I still love him. I will always do. He is my only Sibling... Hahaha!" Majah said spreading his hands and letting out a loud laugh
"I do not give a damn about the both of you. What do you want here?"! Lati asked breathing heavily, his hands forming into a fist.
"You didn't let me finish. I went to see him yesterday and he told me how he sang like a bird to you, how you left angrily and promised to expose him"
"And?" Lati asked his face spiking with irritation.
"He asked me to plead with you. He was talking as if he would die the next day. To plead with you not to expose him, for the sake of his children. He however, said you could come and kill him instead to have your vengeance"
"Kill him only? That would be really easy for him. I will expose him to the entire State! They would know how callous and evil he is. He will pay for his sins but not by death alone!" Lati said his tone laced with revenge and determination.
"Umm. Careful Weed boy" Majah said fleetingly fumbling with his own fingers
"I have told you severally to stop calling me that!" Lati fumed at him
"But I am correct aren't I? Your mother sold weed leaves to boys years back in Ronto! Even if she has stopped, She was known as the weed woman and you are still the Weed boy to me, That is what we called you when you would hawk the leaves on the bicycle to sell"
Lati exhaled loudly and formed his hands into a fist. "Majah what do you want here. If you have nothing to say get out of my house" He further moved closer to him and continued "And if you have come here to plead with me regarding Paul that Criminal don't even try it, because he will pay for his sins. Dearly" Lati said
"Oh far from it" Majah said rising to his feet, his hands tucked in his pockets and his facial expression turning fierce "I have come to warn you actually"
"About?" Lati asked confused.
"If you mention a word of what my brother has done to anyone. I will kill you and the weed woman. Wherever you go I will hunt you down and waste your life. Same as your mother's" Majah blurted out. His eyes as though they were staring into Lati's soul. He had this determined and evil look on his face that Lati almost shook in fear. Majah is a dangerous human and capable of doing the most Viscious things and he would leave no traces
It's unbelievable how as a military man, he got affected by his threat. But he would not let him suceed at this
"Majah, you will not touch my mother! How dare you come here to threaten me after YOUR brother took my wife away from me!" He yelled poking his shaky fingers at him
"Hahaha!" Majah laughed out loud. "Your wife was just a victim of circumstances"
Lati was fuming in anger at his words, breathing heavily and trying to calm himself down. "Get out of my house" he told him.
Majah smirked. "Of course. I will leave but just so you know I know your old mother of Seventy two lives at the Freti province. I know you built her a house there"
Lati felt his heart beat rapidly. He didn't reveal he built for his mother to anyone and he wondered how he knew. His late father's family had been tormenting his mother since his father died, seizing the house they formerly lived in and any valuables noticeable on her.
To stop this maltreatment, Lati secretly built a small but decent house for her at a province in another town and she has been living there peacefully for the past twelve years. No one else knew about this except his mother and his only Sister and he was certainly sure neither of them revealed that to anyone
"Do not touch my mother Majah" Lati warned his eyes turning red and wild.
"Well that depends on if you behave" Majah shrugged
"Your brother took the lives of multiple people in that plane, and you are supporting his horrible action?!"
"Oh...not actually supportive. I am trying to protect my interest. I am running for the senatorial seat in the Federals next year. I do not want any thing to obstruct that. Paul is my twin brother. You think if he is being convicted for murder, people would want to vote for me? You want to ruin my political career?" He queried his eyes widened.
Lati shook his head unbelievably at his words
Majah continued. "Besides, he is my only brother. Come on, I promised our late mother to always protect him. Didn't I?" He snickered letting out a loud laugh.
"I will see you some other time. Lati" Majah added rising to his feet and as he turned his back to leave, a long sharp knife was visible in his Trousers back Pockets.
Lati found himself staggering on his feet as he stared at the Knife. He was speechless and watched him leave.
Majah got to the door and turned back swiftly. "I got my eyes on you, and on the weed mother. One wrong move from you, you would be getting her a befitting coffin soon"
