Chapter 17

The next day...
6:55 AM...
Jiayi's POV....
I walked up to the dining room and put a big bowl of apples. This morning, I decided to cook chicken noodles, corn soup, and some steamed eggs. I thought I put my cooking skills to test by serving them one of Tiancha's favorite dish, which is chicken noodle. After years of helping my mom in the kitchen, surely I've learned some cooking skills from her. Hopefully the couple would like my cooking.
Just then, I hear the sound of the  bedroom door open, revealing Junming walking out of the room, already looking neat in his work clothes.
"Good morning," Junming says as he approaches me who is standing next to the dining room, secretly admiring the dishes I just cooked.
I smile at him. "Good morning. Breakfast is ready."
"Looks good," Junming says as he walks over to the kitchen to grab a mug.
"I thought I cooked Tiancha's favorite chicken noodle for today," I say to him.
"Well, I'm surely fascinated to try," Junming says as he walks back to the dining table. "Let's eat."
Hearing that, I smile at him while giving him a nod. Somehow I felt a small spark tinkled my heart when he asked me to eat together with him. Yet, there's also a small pinch of guilt that begins to crawl inside my heart, knowing that as we are having breakfast together, his wife is still asleep in their room, not aware of the moment we are having. Though I don't have any inappropriate intentions, knowing that I admired and felt touched by a married man's action already makes me guilty enough.
"How is Sister Yiling?" I ask him, wondering about the pregnant woman's condition. Deep down I am concern of her condition and would want her to have all the rest she needs.
"She is still sleeping. I told her to take plenty of rest these days," Junming says before taking a spoon of his porridge.
"I see," I say, before taking a sip of my glass of water.
We continue to have our peaceful breakfast. As Junming focus on his bowl of porridge, I would steal some glances at Junming for time to time. I start to admire his charming features, from his alluring brown eyes to his lovely lips. His has this type of charm that somehow gets stronger for every time I stare at him, sometimes it makes my heart feel anxious, and even worry of my own....feelings.
"By the way, the breakfast is delicious," Junming suddenly says, hence surprising me and sending me back to reality from my daydreaming thoughts while staring at him.
"Oh, thank you," I say shyly, before turning my vision down back to my noodle. I hope he won't notice my now blushing cheeks.
As we continue to eat, suddenly I hear the bedroom door open again. Stepping into the dining room, I see a tall woman  with long wavy hair wearing a pink night gown approaching Junming from the left side. Her icy gaze made me feel a bit anxious. She suddenly plants a small kiss on her husband's cheek.
"Good morning, Husband," Yiling says to Junming in a smooth yet seductive voice at the same time.
"Good morning. Please, have some breakfast. Jiayi here cooked Tiancha's favorite chicken noodle," Junming says before he grabs his mug and drinks it.
"Oh, I see," Yiling says while staring at Junming's now empty bowl since he finished his noodle, before studying the other dishes on the table. Her gaze looked quite curious, and somehow it gives a look that she's not sure that the dishes would be delicious.
"I shall go to work now. After breakfast, don't be too tired and get some rest," Junming says to Yiling as he stood up from his seat.
"Ok, you too. Don't be too tired at the office," Yiling says as the couple are now standing face to face with each other. Yiling's hands starts to make their way to Junming's tie, in which she starts to fix it. Maybe since she thought it was a bit messed up? Yet, as I watch the married couple having a moment in front of me, my heart couldn't help but feel an odd feeling inside. Somehow, my heart doesn't feeling comfortable at the sight of the husband and wife just having a sweet moment, with Junming shyly smiling at his caring wife who is so concern of him. As a guilty feeling in which I realized, somehow my heart feels hurt. Jiayi, why are you feeling this way? I thought you only found Junming to be attractive and was touched by his kindness to give you a place to stay and a job. You shouldn't feel anything more to him, especially knowing that he is married to a beautiful woman who is pregnant with their child. Jiayi, you have to stop your feelings.
Junming walks over to the front door to leave the apartment, ready for another day at the office. Yiling stood near the dining table, with me still sitting awkwardly as I almost finish my bowl of noodle. Her vision stares at me with her usual icy glance, making the fear in me rise as I feel the tension between us gets more awkward.
"Morning, Sister Yiling. Shall I get you a bowl of noodle?" I ask her as I get up from my seat.
"Sure," Yiling says, though she didn't bother to look at my face this time and just pull out a chair a cross me and takes a seat.
Hearing that, I went straight to the kitchen to get her a bowl of chicken noodle. I decided to get her a bit more since she is pregnant, I thought she would need to eat more for the baby. I walk back to the dining table and give her a bowl of noodle, along with a cup of water.
"Here you go, Sister," I say before returning back to my seat to finish my noodle.
"Thank you," Yiling says as she attempts to eat the noodle.
After I finished my noodle, I walked back to the kitchen to put the dirty bowl in the sink, before returning back to drink my water. I see Yiling is still eating her noodle, yet her face somehow doesn't look satisfy. She doesn't look like she enjoys the food, which made me feel a bit nervous.
"How is the noodle, Sister Yiling?" I ask her. I thought maybe I could hear some feedbacks from her to improve my cooking.
She didn't answer me for a moment. She grab the tissue on the table to wipe her mouth elegantly.
"As an advice, next time, don't put too much spice," Yiling says in a cold tone, which quickly hit me right in the spot. Her face looked quite upset as she stares at the bowl of noodle which she thought had too much spice. Hearing that, I deeply felt guilty knowing that she didn't enjoy my breakfast, and I figured I would need to adapt with her taste next time. Jiayi, you gotta adapt with Sister Yiling.
11:45 AM...
At Xiyang Hydroelectrical Company...
Liwei is on the computer finishing his work before lunch. He recently just heard from one of his co-workers that Junming will be going on a business trip to Deyang to check out the site in a few days, which wasn't really a big deal for him. What's been in his head when the thought of it passes by was regarding Jiayi's current state. He had been wondering all night about how has she been doing. Did she get a good sleep? Did she try to talk to her mom again? Did her mom even try to call her?
How is she doing at Junming's place? Liwei thought.
Despite the fact that the two broke up, Liwei still deeply cares for her. He wouldn't lie to himself that he still has some feelings for her. Even though he knew, that he could only feel enough that she still consider him as a friend and is actually kind enough to forgive him for his lies and still remain friends.
A few minutes later...
At the office lobby...
Jiayi's POV....
I start to catch my breath, sweat starts dripping my forehead as I slowly enter the office building of Xiyang. I should have known better than to walk all the way from the apartment to the office on a hot sunny day without bringing my water bottle. I totally forgot about it. At this point, I really miss the nostalgic feeling riding my bike where I used to deliver orders from one door to another.
But anyway, I walked up to the reception desk, where I see a woman with short black hair sitting. I approached her and she forms a small smile at me.
"Good afternoon, welcome to Xiyang. How can I help you?" the woman asks me as she stoods up from her seat.
"Hello. I have a delivery for Mr Cheng Junming," I say as I hand the woman the bag of lunch box I had packed for Junming.
"Oh, ok. And may I know what's your name?" the woman asks.
"Zhang Jiayi," I say, still trying to regain my energy after amount of minutes I spent under the hot weather while getting here. I should definitely get a bottle of water on my way back.
To be continue...
