Chapter 22

A few hours later...
9:22 PM....
At Junming and Yiling's apartment...
Jiayi's POV...
After a long day exploring The Festive Spring Market, we finally decided to go back home after having a delicious dinner of Sichuan food at a restaurant near the market. Yiling stated that she was craving something spicy, and as the caring husband Junming is, he went looking for the nearest place of Sichuan cuisines. Thinking about it, again I am charmed by his sweet act as a husband, which again I try to shrug these thoughts away. In fact, for the whole day we've been exploring The Festive Spring Market, I can asure that I was struggling with my own thoughts about Junming most of the time.
But enough about that. I just finished my shower and is now drying my hair with a towel, as I sit on the edge of my bed in my yellow pajama shirt and shorts. As I continue to dry my shoulder lenght hair, suddenly I hear a knock coming from the door. I quickly put my towel on an empty chair in the room and walk up to open the door.
"Hi," Junming says as he stands in front of my room, looking like he's ready for bed in his white t-shirt and black shorts. For a second his presents made my heart beat faster, as I didn't expect him to knock on my door at this hour. I thought he is suppose to be with Yiling in their room right now.
"I just wanted to say thank you for helping me and Yiling today," Junming says. Though I felt like I didn't really help them much other than just carried their stuff.
"You're welcome," I say. "I think I should be the one to thank you and Sister Yiling for your kindness."
"Ah, don't mention it," Junming says in a chill tone. "It's the least we could do for a friend."
Hearing that, my lips forms a small smile as I stare into his deep brown eyes. For a moment, I start to get lost while staring deeply into his eyes, with a thought of wonder of why they look so familiar. In this moment,  I feel like the universe somehow is moving slower than before. From his eyes, I could see that he is also staring deeply into mine, which silently gives me butterflies.
Junming's POV...
Jiayi's sparkling gaze caught my attention when I noticed her staring deeply into my eyes. Standing in front of her tonight, again she just gives me more flashbacks of Xinyi. From the way she stare at me with the same warm gaze, to her small lips which Xinyi often pouts whenever she got annoyed at me whenever I teased her when we were little. Remembering those good old days, Jiayi's presence just made me yearn for the days with Xinyi.
"Umm...I'm going to get a glass of water," Jiayi says all of a sudden as she shifts her gaze away from mine. Yet, I noticed her cheeks begin to turn red as she quickly attempts to walk pass me. It almost seems like she's trying to avoid me after our "felt like forever" eye contact.
Yet, I suddenly feel a strong grip pulling my arm down. In shock, my body fell to the ground as I felt Jiayi's hand hold a tight grip of my arm as the two of us are now lying on the ground. I wonder what in the world could she be thinking about that she lost her balance and tripped, yet it's a good thing that I didn't fell on top of her. Well, that would have been too awkward.
"Ahh, I'm so sorry. I'm so clumsy," Jiayi quickly says as she sits up from her position. She quickly starts studying my face and arms to see if I was hurt, though I think I should be the one to do that to her. I mean, she was the one who tripped, I was just pulled.
"It's ok," I say as I also got up to my sitting position. Again, we enter another eye contact as I begin to study her face again, this time to check if she was hurt.
"Are you hurt?" I ask her while touching her head, only to hear whether her head feels hurt.
"I'm fine," Jiayi says in a low tone. Slowly, she removes my hand from her hand, as her gaze again refuses to stare into mine.
Jiayi's POV...
After the little incident between Junming and I, couldn't help but feel both embarrass and guilty towards him. While still holding his hand after he touched my head, I refused to stare back into his eyes again, knowing that my heart will begin to beat like crazy again the moment I decided to even take a small gaze of those beautiful brown eyes.
But even though I am completely avoiding any gaze towards him, my heart still beats in an abnormal tone. I wouldn't say that my feelings are in a calm state, since it's definitely not. Again, butterflies begin to dance wildly inside of me.
Junming's POV....
I stare at Jiayi who is still holding my hand in a tight grip, with her eyes still avoiding to look up to me. She must felt awkward after what happened just now, though I wouldn't blame since I also feel the same way regarding this situation.
Slowly, my gaze begin to go down to her legs, wanting to know if she got bruise after the fall. Yet, my gaze quickly stop when I see a mark that caught my attention. I noticed that Jiayi has a small birthmark on her knee, which I remember seeing Xinyi with something similar. I remember that a few days before the accident, Xinyi has a scar on her knee after she fell during a game of tag. Like an instant shocking realization, it feels just like a sign that Jiayi really is Xinyi.
Flashback...
"Ah, I caught you," Junming shouts as he pulls Xinyi's arm in a playful manner.
"How come you always run faster than me?" Xinyi asks in a whiny tone. Again she feels annoyed that Junming succeded in beating her in a game of tag.
"Maybe it's because I am faster than you," Junming says.
"Mama said I shouldn't run too fast after I fell yesterday," says Xinyi as she takes a seat on the bench.
"Your mom is right," says Junming. "By the way, how is your knee?"
"Better. I still need to put a bandaid on it," says Xinyi as lifts up her skirt to show her right knee that has a white bandaid on it.
"It will get better soon," Junming says. "And after that, you can run faster again."
"Yeah, and I will be the one to catch you," says Xinyi in a more cheerful tone this time, which got Junming laughting. Right now, the only thing that the two kids care about is their little game of tag and who'll be the fastest runner.
End of flashback...
"Junming, are you ok?" Jiayi asks after she noticed that Junming had been staring at her knee for a while, which deep down made her curious.
Hearing Jiayi's gentle voice, Junming snaps back from his wondering thoughts about the past. His gaze shifts back to her, but this time with a puzzled look on his face. His eyes looks like he has a thousand questions to ask her, yet he knew he couldn't possibly ask her all of his questions in one night. Maybe it's not the right time, and maybe it will only make him feel like things are moving too fast.
"I'm fine," Junming says. "By the way, is that a birthmark?"
To be continue...
