Chapter one hundred and one

I just finished up my meal, I mean every single one of it without leaving anything on the plate. I didn't know I was that hungry as I refused to eat last night. Amanda has her special way of making oats with nuts and it's always so tasty the one could barely say no to. She on the other hand never ceases to boast about it.
I cleared the plates from the dinning table as soon as I was done and washed the dishes immediately. I hated seeing them dirty, especially in my kitchen!
I dried my hands with the hand towel after cleaning the plates and placing them on the racks. I left the kitchen, now ready to go out.
"Ammy. Ammy" I called out twice, walking slowly towards the exit.
Amanda answered, I guessed from her room and the next minute, she was in the sitting room.
"You called me."
"Yeah, I did. I want to go see Sonia. I haven't seen her in two days now. You know what's she's going through recently, she really needs me to be around her." I explained.
"I understand. I will sort the house out. I've taken a day off from work already, so I'll be a full time house wife, or should I say sister for today. You don't have to worry about the kids also, I'll take care of that."
"That's so sweet Ammy. I owe you big time. I promise to make it up to you, okay." I promised sincerely.
"That's not a big deal. As far as my niece and nephews are concerned, I'm glad to help. Moreover, the big job I have now is all thanks to you."
"Well, you deserve more. Anyway, I'll be on my way now okay. Please, take care of yourself and the house, alright."
"Will definitely do that. Take care to. Bye."
"Bye."
I left the house and headed to the garage. I unlocked my car and climbed in. Turning on the car, I let it stay for a while, with me waiting.
A flash of the hospital came into my mind. I had been going for chemotherapy treatments for a while now, without letting anyone know. Unfortunately, I got to know about the last stage cancer very late, after getting fake x-ray scans from two different hospitals. The idea of going out with those ladies was just a means of disguise, so I don't get suspected.
One might wonder why I didn't tell Eddy about it which is what every normal human would do. Well, I know how bad he's gonna feel. I prefer he loses me than I do. With my condition, I just want something that will add to my peace, not the other way round.
By this time, the car had warmed up. I got down and opened the gate. I got back into the car and started to drive out. I guess Amanda noticed that I was driving out, so she came out if the house, and closed the gate as soon as I left the building.
I drove to Sonia's house. It was about fifteen minutes drive from my house. Luckily, there was no traffic, so it was quite easy.

I was forcing myself to take the tea I made as I had lost appetite. Mom has been trying her best to encourage me and make me feel the need for Alex to have his space and think deeply about the whole thing.
It wasn't easy on my own part. I had called earlier this morning when I woke up from sleep. He didn't pick up, but sent a message stating that he was fine, that I shouldn't worry myself about him. I was trying, but looked like I was only pouring water on stone, you know what that means.
Jessica on the other hand hasn't been picking my calls nor returning them. It brought back the words of Detective Jide, terming her a suspect. I waved it off immediately as it didn't make any single sense to me.
Still playing with breakfast and hoping I will regain my appetite back to normal, I heard the sound of a car horning from outside. With speed and excitement, thinking it was my sweetness coming back home, to me. I left the food almost stumbling on an object which wasn't on the way.
I ran out of the house expectantly to the gate. It didn't take me a minute and I had opened the gate widely. As the car drive in, I realized it wasn't Alex at all. I felt dismayed and really disappointed.
When I saw that it was Jessica, it enlightened my mood though. I was glad at least that she didn't abandon me like it seemed. I closed the gate and locked it properly when she came in. I waited for her to park the car well before going to meet her.
"Jess-ica. Oh my goodness, so nice to see you." I said excitedly, though deliberately hiding the fact that I had been crying previously.
"Good morning Sonia." She said smiling, then hugging me coolly, of which I couldn't resist but hugged back.
"Yeah, good morning. You don't look bad." I said, in a way to compliment her.
"Hahahaha." She laughed lightly. "You don't look bad either, except that, you look like you are loosing weight already." She replied.
"Well, I guess I don't have a choice you know. Come on in." I said, walking into the house with Jessica following behind.
We went into the house and sat down in the sitting room. I put on the television, so that Mom wouldn't eavesdrop when we started talking.
"So, how are you doing? Oh, that reminds me. I'm really sorry about yesterday. I had a tough time to be honest and slept off. I didn't see your call till this morning."
"Yeah, I called. I sent a message as well, was wondering why you didn't pick up. What hard time did you have? I asked fastidiously.
"Is your mom around? Jessica asked, looking around perhaps to check.
"Yeah, she is. That is why.." I pointed at the television and she understood immediately what I meant. She smiled calmly before she replied my question.
"Well, I and Eddy fought yesterday." Jessica answered in a low tone.
"Oh my goodness. What happened? Were you injured? How are you now? What really happened? I asked, alarmed and a bit frightened.
That was the first time that they ever fought since they got married. They usually had issues and quarrelled at some point, but never a fight. I was scared and wondered what could have led to that.
"Sonia, I really don't know how to put it. Okay, uhm. Yesterday we were watching a movie, that was before dinner. He left the sitting room and he went upstairs to get something. His phone started ringing. I took it innocently to give it to him, calling him to come take his phone. Then, I saw the caller name."
"A lady? I asked wide eyed.
"Yes. Not just any lady. I guess it's someone hevia seeing recently. The way he saved it with the love emoji and all. I knew it wasn't just an ordinary girl. That led to the fight." Jessica said hissing loudly.
"Oh my goodness, Jess. I am so so sorry, Jess." I sympathized.
"No, it's fine. We'll sort it out. I still have this feeling that he hasn't like, cheated on me yet. So, I'm not so mad at him."
"I hope so too."
"Yeah. So tell me. How has the investigation been going lately? Any lead yet?
I sighed lightly as I recalled what happened the previous day. "Girl, a lot happened yesterday. As a matter of fact, just so you know, Alex didn't sleep here last night. He stormed out of anger. I don't know where he slept last night." I said to her.
She stared at me like she did understand what I just said. "You mean, our Alex? Like, Alexander Tinket didn't sleep in this house, last night? How's that possible? Is there anything I am missing?
"Well..." I paused for few seconds, then started to talk again. "We received a parcel from an unknown person yesterday. I don't know how the person came into the compound. It was Alex that spotted the basket infront of the house. At first, I was thinking there was a bomb in it and we had to involve the police." I paused. "They came around and were the ones who opened it. Guess what? My Mom finally found a piece of paper inside the basket after the police declared it safe. She handed it to my Alex and that was when the problem started."
"What problem? She asked.
"Inside the paper was a DNA test result stating that the twins weren't his!
"Oh my goodness! But, but that's not possible Sonia. Tell me you are clean." Jessica demanded.
"Of course I am. You know I would have told you if I had anything. I have never been a cheat and would never be as far as Alex is concerned."
"Oh thank God. That's a good start alright. We'll sort that out, so don't worry too much about it. As far as you are clean, I'm not even bothered." Jessica replied sighing in relief.
"Are you sure about that? I asked.
"Hundred percent."
I heard my phone ringing as it was in the dining room, so I excused myself and went to get it.
