The evening was cool, Marcus had gone ahead with the invitation despite his wife's warning. He wanted to fix their broken relationship. The door bell rang and Marcus was delighted when he saw his friends with little Sardius. "Good to see you buddy, it's been a while." Marcus and Daniel both had a manly handshake. While Beryl came in with a smile plastered on her face. She had a present in her hand. She was nervous, alright. But still wanted to see her friend and get it over with. Daniel her husband had a way with words that it had possibly pushed her into seeing her friend. "Oh Beryl, you look lovely. That dress do accentuate your looks. I'm sure Onyx would love it." Marcus complimented her glittery dress. "You flatter me Marcus." She laughed as she looked around. Onyx wasn't in view, where was she? "Wait till Onyx sees it." He grinned. "Thank you Marcus, I appreciate the compliment." She smiled. " I picked the dress for her, the praise should go to me." Daniel said and the room roared in laughter. "Where's she anyway?" Daniel asked as the laughter died out. "Who?" Marcus asked. "Your wife, Onyx?" "Oh, she's at the dinning btable with mother-in-law. Come in, don't just stand there Beryl." ***** Onyx was watching Onyx play with her doll in Chrusolite's room. Then she heard Daniel's voice, followed by her husband's. "Daniel?" She called when he saw her. Daniel looked down at her. She was wearing a flowering chiffon dress that had short sleeves. Her blonde hair was packed up in a bun. "You look stunning Onyx." He had to say. Onyx smiled, looked over at her husband. Behind them was Beryl dressed in a glittery, stony dress that sparkled. "I mean it." Daniel repeated. "Stop with the tease. I appreciate the compliment. Thank you." She parted his arm. "Beryl is here by the way." Marcus slightly pushed Beryl forward. Then, added to Daniel. "We should go see Mother-in-law, should we?" "I believe we should." Daniel smiled at that as they both left both ladies in awkward silence. The two friends stared at each other with nothing in particular to say. No one was ready to make the first move. "I brought myself here, atleast she should say something." Beryl said within her feeling uncomfortable with the tensed silence. "Isn't she going to say a word? At least appreciate the fact that Marcus seem fit to invite her?" Onyx said in her heart, looking over her shoulder to the window. "Well, you look nice." Onyx forced herself to say. "Thank you, as do you." Beryl smiled back at her. After some minutes crawled by, Beryl left her having nothing more to say. "Good Beryl. Good, I love the act. It's game on." ****** Corral Marble was serving them delightfully while they all sat find the table. Onyx kept looking down at her food with disgust. "What's with the face, Onyx? Is something wrong with the food?" Marcus asked. "Nothing." She answered him. "But the way you look at it....," "Can you pass me the syrup Dan, please?" Onyx interrupted. Daniel shot her a surprised look before passing her the salt. Marcus bit back a laugh before staring back at his wife. Beryl was furious at Onyx's behavior, that was uncalled for. She had just visibly interrupted her husband! That was rude. "Onyx, do you want more apple sauce?" Corral Marble asked. She was sitting now, close to Marcus. "No, I think I'm fine." Accidentally, while Onyx was reaching for the syrup, her hand turned it over and it spilled into Beryl's dress who sat close to her. The whole suddenly became quiet as a graveyard. Beryl shot Onyx a dry look. "Onyx, what's all this?" Marcus had to say something. He was obviously pissed off. "My apologies." She muttered then stood up and turned to leave. Beryl slammed the table with both of her fists. "You know what Onyx, if you don't like being here, why be so fussy and piqed? You're just being childish, giving someone a headache over nothing! Just take a look at me.....," "And I think I apologized, didn't I?" Onyx shot back at her. "Something is wrong with you!" Onyx laughed. "You're only angry and pissed off over something small." Onyx turned again ignoring Beryl's shocked look. "What's wrong with Onyx, Marcus?" Daniel threw a question. "I really don't know. She has just been strange recently." Marcus touched his forehead with his thumb and fore finger. "I know what's wrong with her, she's just a bitter woman!" Beryl said furiously. "Take it easy Beryl. Don't be offended by her attitude please." Corral Marble begged on her behalf. "You know what? I think I'm full already. This here, has to stop. Daniel, I'm leaving with the baby. Marcus, thank you for the generous meal." "But you can't gorgeous." Daniel said trying to stop her. "You can't stop me now. You saw what just happened. I'm not staying here a minute longer. Goodnight Corral Marble. I'll go pick my baby from the cot." She kissed Ma Corral Marble goodnight and left. ***** Marcus was furious too. After talking to her angrily, he went off to his room to change. After a while, he returned to find Onyx still in the garden, remorseful maybe. He wanted to reach out to her but he couldn't. She had been really strange and he hated it that she had been rude to him and their friends. She'll have to deal with the fact that she has broken a beautiful bond. Was it because of Beryl? Why go too far? When he returned to get himself a drink from the refrigerator, he saw a glimpse of her in the sofa chair, stating into space. He forced himself to walk up to her, only stopping some inches away from her. "Onyx," he called. Slowly, she adjusted her sitting position, looking up at him with almost teary eyes. Her eyes again pulled him in like a magnetic force. He loved the way her eyes moved him, other times, it was his weakness. "What are you thinking?" He pulled in beside her, taking her hand. "I have nothing to say." She said dryly. "You're troubled my love and I can't help it." He squeezed her folder hand in his. "I've got nothing to say Marcus." She pushed and slapped his hand away. "Can you just let me be, please?" She begged. "You're rather strange tonight Onyx. Your mum is worried about you." He said watching her as she stood up turning her back to him. "It will help if you leave me be. I just want to be alone." She said. He nodded, stood up. Glanced at her one last time before leaving her alone. She stared at his back while he walked away. She knew she wasn't helping matters. She still couldn't believe that Marcus had married her. Suddenly, she was afraid of herself. She felt her genes were far too dorminant than that of her husband's. In other words, it was likely that her daughter, Chrysolite was a full blooded supernatural being. Her mind flashed back to what Beryl had said about her daughter. "She might be a devil goddess." Yes, she heard it, she had only acted like she had not heard it. She knew who Beryl was referring to. Chrysolite might be more powerful than she already is. She became so afraid that she wrapped her arms around herself. She was truly afraid. Will Marcus not curse her? Will he not regret his love for her? In all, will he love his daughter despite the fact that she might hate him? What does the future hold for her, for Marcus, for Corral Marble, for Chrysolite. Her mind never wandered to Sardius, Beryl's and Daniel's son. Little Sardius. She never knew what human powers Sardius had to change her daughter's heart and fate. It was really unfathomable what the future certainly held.
