Chapter 29 PIQED TO THE BONES

The date was set for a Saturday. Sardius was the first to come pick Chrysolite but Michael outsmarted him. Sardius was dressed like a young dashing prince from France. He was dressed in red overcoats that had golden buttons. His hair was combed out neatly so that if one had seen him, one wouldn't even recognize him. While Michael was dressed like a gentleman in a black tux and trousers. His Clark shoes shone like the evening stars, who would have thought Michael got himself a new pair of shoes to impress Chrysolite? Unlike Sardius, his hair was jelled and curled and his face radiated with such a warming glow.
When Chrysolite walked down the stairs to meet the young boys who were talking to her grandmother, they were all astonished at her flattering beauty. Her hair had some curls at the edges, full that it cascaded down her bare shoulders. Her pretty pale gown greeted her heels and she had to pick the side of her dress as she walked down the stairs.
They were going to an opera show which Michael had insisted that they all attend although not all of them were excited by an opera show. Both Ashley and Jasmine were dressed in plain Gucci black gowns, their hair pulled up in a bun. One would think they were sisters. Jasmine watched how Michael held Chrysolite's hand as they all took their seats to watch the opera show. It vexed and angered her, she wished she was the one in Chrysolite's lovely silk dress, wished she was the one Michael was holding hands with, wished Michael was smiling down at her as he was doing with Chrysolite.
After the opera show, they bought some ice cream then they all sat next to a fountain of water watching the rest of the evening pass by. Ashley was teasing Sardius about his supposed girlfriend Delia. Everyone laughed about Sardius being too shy to introduce his girlfriend to the rest of his friends, Jasmine knew intently that Sardius had no other than Chrysolite.
"Who's she?" Both twins asked.
Sardius laughed as he glanced at Chrysolite. This was going to be harder than he thought. The girl he liked was the same person his best friend liked.
"How does she look like?" Chrysolite asked, smiling at him.
"She has red eyes and red hair as well."
Sardius described watching Chrysolite.
"How did you get to know Delia?" Jasmine put in, angered by the obvious lies.
"She's the daughter of my dad's boss." He lied, ignoring Chrysolite this time.
"I don't remember meeting any girl with such description." Chrysolite laughed and Sardius laughed back.
While they talked, Michael reached for Chrysolite's hand, he needed quiet time with her. Together, they walked to the other side of the park which had another fountain of water. They began to splash water from the fountain, laughing happily as they did so.
"You have red strands in your hair." Michael noticed as they both came out of the fountain soaked and drenched by its water.
"Red strands?" Chrysolite touched her hair, puzzled at what Michael had said.
Michael came closer to her and touched her hair and he couldn't deny the fact that the specks of red in her hair were obvious. He hadn't seen anything like this in her hair before, had she applied something to it? "It's beautiful; he said, "did you apply anything in your hair?" He wanted to know.
She shook her head in negation. She looked quickly down at herself as she noticed how his eyes trailed down her body. Her silky down had clung to her body exposing her delicate curves. She suddenly wished that she hadn't been silly. She embraced herself with her arms trying to conceal the shape of her body.
"Let's go." She said.
"No, wait." He stopped her as he retrieved his dry tuxedo suit and instead covered her hair.
"I wouldn't want the others to have crazy thoughts. The specks of red are still there." He smiled down at her.
She returned his smile and then followed behind him as he led the way to the others.
Sardius had seen the smile plastered on her face when Chrysolite and Michael were returning to them. He also noticed their drenched clothes and Michael's tux covering Chrysolite's head. She was extremely happy, he could feel it. He was wrong that Chrysolite did have feelings for him. He was wrong. He looked over at Jasmine who was disgusted by what she saw.
Ashley was chuckling as well as smiling, hand akimbo she asked the duet why they were left out of the fun too.
Sardius felt tired of the whole thing in a flash, he suddenly wanted to be out of there. He knew why he was feeling that way, the whole thing was pissing him off. He told the others that he would be leaving soon. Chrysolite burst out that he shouldn't leave without her, she decided to return Michael's tux but Michael insisted that she shouldn't take it off until she got home.
When Sardius and Chrysolite left, Jasmine ranted out heatedly to Michael how Chrysolite never liked him and they all knew it but let it slide. She kept on pouring salt on the injury that Michael had to slap her across her face which shocked Ashley.
"We all know the truth. Chrysolite might even like someone that we might know!!" Jasmine ranted.
"Jasmine, you need to stop this." Ashley tried to stop Jasmine by grabbing her arm.
"Let go of me!" She yelled. "I'm not done yet. You're in this too. You're happy that both your brother and Chrysolite are now a couple." She fiercely turned to Ashley.
"Jasmine, what's your problem?" Ashley was concerned.
"Just stop it, Ashley! I hate explaining myself so much. It's only a matter of time before the truth is out." Jasmine looked over at Michael one last time then she turned with tears in her eyes and walked away.
Ashley stood like a dead fish, unable to move not knowing if she should go after her friend or stay with her brother.
