Chapter Seventy-five

"Who the fuck did this?" Denisse asked, seeing some of his men dead—they were stabbed in their sleep.
"It must be the enemies, sir. We woke up last night and saw two figures assassinating our comrades. We tried to catch them, but they were so fast," Carla, an assassin, said.
"Shit! They probably did this because they knew they were outnumbered, but if they really think they can defeat us just like that, then they are wrong," Denisse said. "This is why I hate vampires. Tell everyone to double-time; we have to get there as soon as possible."
Denisse and his men continued their journey and eventually reached the battlefield—an uninhabited land surrounded by a forest. Denisse saw three figures standing from a distance. He realized he made the wrong choice by allowing Charlie to go back. He should have killed him from the start; now he became their ally again. He couldn't understand what was going on in this little kid's mind.
"It's nice to see you again, Kwan Moldrick and Rebecca San Jose," Denisse shouted. "I'm giving you the chance to surrender. Let's not spill blood on this ground. You're clearly outnumbered—" Denisse stopped when he saw other men arrive on Kwan's side.
"Lucille?" Rebecca asked, surprised to see Lucille. "What are you doing here?"
"Don't ask me that question, Rebecca. We're here to help you, of course. I received a letter from Kwan, saying that Denisse came back, so I asked for the werewolves' help," Lucille replied, unsheathing her double-edged swords.
"As your followers, bound by a promise of loyalty and alliance, we are willing to help you in this battle, Lord Kwan and Lady Rebecca," the chieftain of werewolves said, bowing his head to show respect.
"Oh, great. Now, we're no longer outnumbered," Charlie said, although he felt uncomfortable when his mother looked at him. He felt guilty for killing his siblings.
Looking at them, Denisse realized that Kwan's allies weren't ordinary people. Some of them had transformed into wolves, and he even found it interesting despite the cowardice of his men. He knew it was too late to turn back, and the more challenging it became, the more he wanted to do it.
"Attack! Eliminate all the enemies!" Denisse ordered, and although his men were scared of the wolves and vampires, they rushed towards the enemies—they had been paid already, and retreating wasn't a choice.
The surroundings became chaotic; smoke and dust spread around. Gunshots and screams filled the air. The werewolves seemed to have the advantage, but they were nothing compared to guns. However, despite being wounded, they didn't stop fighting, killing all the gangsters in sight.
Kwan, Rebecca, and Lucille joined the fight. Denisse was watching the chaos when Charlie came to attack him.
"Ahhhh!" Kwan screamed in pain when a gangster threw holy water at him, burning his skin, but before he could turn into a corpse, he leapt and bit him, regaining his strength as he drank his blood.
"You don't stand a chance against me," Carla said, facing Lucille.
"Then give me all you've got," Lucille replied.
Lucille and Carla fought. Carla successfully wounded Lucille's face, but Lucille didn't let it stop her.
Lucille had been secretly training herself with the werewolves, and she became so good at swordfighting. Also, being a vampire gave her the advantage and agility to win against the assassin.
"Now, who do you think doesn't have the chance between us?" Lucille asked before stabbing Carla's head.
Rebecca, being a vampire, wasn't scared of getting wounded since she knew she would recover if they drank their blood. A gangster came to face her—he was about to shoot her when she kicked his gun, so he had no choice but to use his fist. He punched Rebecca, but she dodged and punched him back. Then she lunged at him and bit his neck.
Soon, only a few left standing in the battlefield. The werewolves and gangsters were all dead, their blood spilled on the ground. While Denisse caught Charlie, holding him as a hostage.
"Don't move, or I'll kill this boy," Denisse warned, pointing a gun at Charlie's head. "Now put all your weapons down."
"Son of a—" Kwan said, seeing Charlie as he struggled.
A gunshot echoed throughout the place. Denisse's arm fell to the ground. Charlie bit him in the neck and got struck by a bullet in his side in return, as Denisse didn't hesitate to pull the trigger even when he was dying. Charlie was bleeding while Denisse fell to the ground.
"Charlie!" Lucille screamed, running towards her son. "Please hang in there. You can't die yet!"
Charlie touched his mother's face as her tears fell from her eyes. "Mom... Please allow me to repay for my mistakes. I'm really sorry for giving you a hard time, for killing my siblings. I... I hope you can forgive me..."
"Charlie, no!" Lucille screamed as her son closed his eyes and took his last breath.
Kwan remained expressionless despite what happened to his son. He didn't want to cry over his death. He thought that Charlie died with honor, and even though he wasn't given the chance to give him a good life, he showed him some love and care in a short time.
Heavy rain fell from the dark skies. Kwan dug a large pit and buried everyone there, excluding Charlie, as Lucille asked him if she could give him a proper burial.
Soon, Lucille's family made it to Charlie's burial. They said their condolences. Rebecca and Kwan were also present, except for Patrick's family, since he wasn't the real father.
"I'm sorry for your loss, Lucille," Rebecca said. "But I hope that no matter what life throws at you, you'll make a good thing out of it. Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, though, but about learning how to dance in the rain."
"Thanks, Rebecca, you came even after everything," Lucille said, hugging Rebecca. She couldn't hold back her tears and cried.
"I'm just returning the favor," Rebecca said, gently patting Lucille's back.
After Charlie's burial, Kwan and Rebecca went back to the mansion, the place where they first met. A lot of memories were coming back to their minds, and they were both happy and relieved that they had survived all of those challenges.
Nine months later, Rebecca gave birth to a baby boy, and she named him Bernard. Bernard San Jose Moldrick grew up to be a very strong vampire—both Kwan and Rebecca trained him to protect himself, and he developed a strength that was equivalent to ten men and increased as he aged.
Soon, after living a long and happy life, Kwan and Rebecca had to say goodbye to their son. Bernard inherited their wealth, he married a woman named Felicia, and they continued protecting the land of San Jose and Moldrick from everyone who wanted to steal it.
