Cornelius sighed as he watched Ares flip the page of the book he was reading.
“If you have something to say, you can say it and stop sighing like your family was killed” Ares said calmly without turning to him.
“You almost lost yourself, Ares. You know why you never let your wolf out but you did because of that human slave? I don’t get you” Ares sighed as he closed the book and placed it on the table in front of him.
“She’s my responsibility, Cornelius. You of all people know I would do something like this if you went missing so what is the problem?” Cornelius ran his fingers through his hair out of frustration.
“You care for her way differently then you care for me and you know that, it’s very evident. Just because she went missing, you asked the whole troop to go look for her? She’s a slave, Ares, it’s not normal” Ares tilted his head at him.
“Well I’m not normal and I tend to do things that are out of the ordinary. I don’t think I have to explain myself to anyone. She’s a human, Cornelius. You should know that she needs extra protection because of that. This place isn’t a place for a human. In fact, I should have let her go the minute I bought her” Cornelius frowned.
“Then why didn't you?" Ares didn't know what to say because he didn't know the answer either. What made her so different from the rest?
After a while, Cornelius sighed.
“You know how much These human’s scare me. Don’t… don’t just let her too close to you, okay? I just don’t want to see you get hurt” Ares stared at him for a while but didn’t say anything.
Cornelius was about to say something else when the door bursted open to reveal Leo and Ares’ uncles.
“Ares, I heard what happened yesterday. What do you think you were thinking asking the troop to go look for a slave girl. This is so unlike you” Ares sighed. He wasn’t in the mood to receive any lecture. As a matter of fact, if something like this happened again, he would do the same thing.
“Do you really expect me to explain myself to you?” Leo scoffed.
“I mean that’s the least you can do. How do you think I felt when I was told I had to release the troop to go find a slave and not just any slave, a human” Ares ripped his temples with his thumb.
Because Myla had needed to rest on his bed, he hadn’t slept a wink and this good for nothing people were disturbing his peace now.
Just then, Someone knocked on the door.
“Come in” Ares muttered. The physician walked into the room and bowed his head to all of them.
“Alpha, The human has woken up” Ares turned to him with a raised eyebrow then stood up from his chair.
“Alright, I’ll be there soon” Leo scoffed as the Physician walked out of the room.
“Oh I get it now. You are sleeping with your slave, aren’t you?” Ares turned to him and Leo immediately regretted his words.
Ares took slow steps towards him till he stood at his front.
“I think you’re mistaking me for you. I’ve warned you countless times, Leo but you seem to be growing a bigger wing. Who’s the Alpha here?” Leo pursed his lips.
“Aren’t I talking to you or have you suddenly gone mute?” Leo clenched his jaws.
“It’s you, you’re the Alpha” Ares nodded.
“And who is the king? Me right? So why would I, The Alpha king have to explain myself to a lowlife Omega wolf?” Leo’s eyes widened.
“I’m not an omega wolf, I'm the chief of the warriors and….”
“And who put you in that position? Me. Without me, None of you would be where you are now so anytime you want to question me, remember that I’m the Alpha and you are an omega. Remember I am the King and you are my subject. Let’s go, Cornelius” Cornelius and immediately followed behind Ares.
Leo punched the wall beside him as soon as Ares was out of sight, leaving a dent in the wall.
“Can you see how he just humiliated me, father?” His father sighed.
“Don’t worry, we’ll get rid of him soon” Leo turned to him with angry eyes.
“How soon? I don’t want to just remove him from the throne anymore father, I want him dead” Ares had made him feel less all his life, he had had enough.

Myla slowly opened her eyes with a groan.
“You are finally up, I’ll go get the Alpha” Myla turned to the voice and saw someone dressed as a physician say. Before she could say anything, the Physician walked out of the room.
She immediately grimaced as she felt the throbbing at the back of her head. She reached out to touched it and noticed it was bandaged.

Just then, Ares and Cornelius walked into the room and halted her thoughts.
“You are awake” He uttered calmly and Myla nodded.
“I’m okay because of you” She didn’t know why she said that and she almost smacked herself in the face after saying it but it was true. If he hadn’t shown up, she didn't know what would have happened. She wondered what Luane and Noah were doing at that time.
“You are my responsibility, I had to protect you” Myla smiled genuinely at him.
“Still, thank you” Cornelius cleared his throat.
“I’m feeling like a third wheel here so I’ll be leaving now” And with that, he walked out of the room.
“You saved me," Myla said after the awkward silence. Ares cleared his throat.
“Like I said, it was my responsibility and…"
“Ares, you have treated me like anything other than a responsibility since I got here. You don't even treat me like a slave, sometimes I just feel like your personal advisor or…. Your friend" Ares pursed his lips and refused to talk. What could he say to that? Was this really how his actions had been to her?
