It was dark when I was walking home from my part time job at the karaoke. I was a little late today as there were more customers than usual.
Turns out a bunch of celebrities had dropped by to film a reality show. Although I had never seen them before. There were cameras set up at every corner of the place. It proved difficult to get around with all the cables and wirings on the ground but I managed.
Hearing them converse and laugh reminded me of when I was young. I used to always want to become a celebrity. All the fame and the money. I was quite the dreamer. Sadly, I wasnt able to pursue them. It was childish of me anyways. But still.....I had hope
Before I headed home, I stopped by the convenience store to grab dinner. Convenience store dinners are elite for people like me. The convenience store was pretty much empty leaving only me and the cashier.
Which is quite surprising. When I came here last week, a few businessman were drinking as they talked about their work. There were even highschoolers who dropped by after tuition.
I strolled around the store tapping my feet to the music's rythm as I picked up a few things before heading to the counter.
"Hello miss, would that be all?" the cashier asked looking at me briefly before scanning my items. Hmm he seems new
I replied with a simple yes, not feeling like talking to him at the moment.
"We're having promotions on prepacked carbonaras if you're interested?" He asked politely. His gaze on me was soft and friendly.
"Well...I'm not really a big fan of cheese"
He nodded continue scanning my items. As I was waiting, a question popped into my head.
"If you don't mind me asking. Is Kai not working here anymore?"
My question caught him off guard. He flinched and thought for a moment before answering
"He's....well I'm sorry but its confidential" he apologised.
"I see...its just i'm soo used to seeing him around" he looked back up to me with a questioning gaze.
"Are you perhaps a close aquaintance of his?"
"Close? We were super close! He helped me with any troubles that I faced. He's the reason I even managed to land a part time job!"
I began gushing on how much of a father figure he is to me. Living without parents made me crave for any type of affection. He was the one who filled the gap in my heart.
After an unwelcoming incident that brought us together, we stuck together like magnets. Although we dont meet each other as often anymore...
He seemed to have gotten much more busy as days go by.
As I explained Kai's relation to me, he too began telling stories about Kai. He said he was thankful to him for getting him a chance at working here.
"I guess we're both damsel in distress and Kai's our knight in shinning armour" We both laughed.
After our little moment, the cashier kept looking at me funny. He seemed out of place if thats the right word. My smile slowly went away and I observed his movements
He wore a face mask which restricted me from seeing his actual face. But what caught my attention the most was the sweat forming on his forehead.
The convenience store was blasting with air conditioner at every corner of the room so why was he sweating? Did I make him laugh too much?
Then I realized he wasnt looking at me anymore but rather outside the store? I turned to look outside
Hmm, there dont seem to be anyone out there other than the street light. Perhaps he's a little paranoid or I'm too blind to see anything
PARANOID would be an understatement.
Just as I turn back to face him again, I saw a hideous looking face. At least I think its a face and it is hideous. I've said that twice now but it was seriously hideous. The sweat started dripping from my forehead now. The cashier and I held eye contact none of us breaking it.
It was quite an intense moment until he made a move motioning towards the staff's room with his eyes. He wants me to go in there but I couldnt move neither could he. We know what has to be done but I just couldnt-
It came right between us.
Its slimy tentacle like hands came slithering over my left shoulder leaving a black mucus. It was watching our every move. It's eyes locked upon my breaking my eye contact with the cashier. The mucus it left started to sting?
I held my breath for what seemed like eternity hoping the pain doesn't gradually increase. It then started leaving and I felt its slime like hands leaving my shoulder with a small scar.
It's retreating figure was horrendous. There were tentacles flowing through the back of it leaving a trail of black mucus. It was moving like a snail, slithering its way out.
But why did it leave? Something's off
I breathe a sigh of relief as I looked towards the cashier.
"Get. In. The. Staff. Room. Now"
I was confused. Sure we were just attacked by an alien like thing but its gone and theres no wa-
*CRASH*
"MOVE!!"
We dashed into the staff room as he swiftly barricaded the door with a bunch of shelf and anything he could find. It started thumping on the door. He then grabbed my hand and led me thru a ventilation system.
It was really narrow and dusty. It got into my eyes a few times causing me to slow down. But i realized the more we moved the more I could not hear it's high pitched screams anymore.
We're safe.
Finally...
We got to the end of the vent and took a deep breath trying to calm ourselves down.
"We got pretty lucky huh" he said in between his breaths dusting off his ashed shirt.
"I...what...yeah. Yeah we did" I began praying to every god I ever knew of. Thanking them for our safe escape.
"But you know....you really shouldnt just follow someone you just met" I heard him say.
His tone of voice seemed different. It was much more deep....deeper then the usual depth of a humans voice.
I turned around and was met with a 12 foot tall hideously red alien. It was much more bigger and horrifying. I could see its ribs sticking out with no flesh.
Its claws extended towards my face and I lost my conciousness in an instant.
I felt my breathing slowing down. My mind was getting hazier by the second.
Footsteps were fading away and I lost my hearing. I suppose this is how it all ends for me.
Atleast I get to fulfill my childhood dream and be a star on the front page of a newspaper.....
Releasing a small chuckle, I finally drifted to an eternal slumber
