The morning was so cold, the rain kept falling, wetting the earth, the sound of roosters kept calling out to people who woke up with messy hair. Viona looked at the clock on the wall of her room, it was already 05.30 and that meant she had to immediately get up from her most comfortable position to perform the morning prayer and get ready for school. With a condition that was still gathering her soul, Viona walked to the bathroom. The splash of cold water really helped the process of gathering her soul to be faster.
Finished with her morning routine, Viona rushed to school, she remembered that there was a Physics assignment that she had not done so that she could do it later with her friends by cheating. A good cooperation but it was really not worth imitating.
When entering the classroom all her friends were already seen sitting in groups, copying assignments from several diligent children in the class. Regardless of whether the assignment was right or wrong, the important thing was that when they were asked to do it, they did not hand in their books empty. Viona immediately joined the group that looked still quiet.
"Whose book is this? Is this really the assignment?" Viona asked Lina who was sitting next to her.
"Ronal's, who knows whether it's right or wrong if the teacher hasn't checked it, just do it, don't ask too many questions, you don't want to be sunbathed for not doing your homework. Besides, it's really unusual for you to not do your homework, usually it's done that day when the teacher leaves the classroom." Lina replied, making Viona pout her lips, but not long after she was seen busy copying the assignment. It wasn't without reason that Viona was afraid to copy Ronal's assignment, she was just afraid that the assignment was wrong while almost the whole class copied it, Ronal himself had never been seen standing out in this lesson, in fact he tended to be lazy about meeting numbers. If the assignment was wrong, it would definitely invite suspicion, but oh well, all the risks were borne together. A few minutes later the bell rang, simultaneously several groups that had previously looked busy returned to their respective seats.
The Physics lesson that felt so boring went very slowly, the teacher did not realize that quite a few of her students were already busy with their own activities, even some of the students who were wearing hijab had already put on headsets in their ears, they preferred listening to music rather than calculating wind speed, falling leaves or just calculating the ebb and flow of the sea. Mrs. Marta's forehead looked wrinkled as she flipped through her students' assignment books, her face began to look annoyed as she checked the assignments she had given last week. It seemed like she had smelled something was wrong with the assignments.
"Who was the jockey in the assignment I gave? Why did you all get the same grade? You all got chicken eggs. Zero." Mrs. Marta said while looking around the class with glaring eyes.
Suddenly the class suddenly became silent, everyone ducked and closed their mouths, no one spoke.
"You guys really make me angry, you've cheated, but you're still wrong. This question is as easy as chicken fart, how come you can't do it?" Mrs. Marta continued.
"Hi..hi..hi..hii" A giggle was heard from the back row of the class, which made Mrs. Marta's eyes widen again. "Who was laughing?" Mrs. Marta's voice rose several octaves. "I'll count to three if no one admits, I'll dry you all in the field, One... Two... Three..." Mrs. Marta looked around again but no one answered, everyone crouched down, it seemed no one was afraid of her threat.
"Hey, do you guys have mouths? Aren't you mute? Aren't you the scarecrows that stand on the edge of the rice fields? Whose function is only to scare birds" Mrs. Marta shouted while banging the table, she felt like she was being toyed with by her students, how could someone laugh when she was angry. "Please all stand in the field, I have no more mood to teach you" she continued.
"Hooray, we're not studying" Mrs. Marta's mouth was again seen mumbling when she heard several students shouting and even dancing happily as if they had won the lottery. She was wrong to give punishment, in fact none of the faces looked afraid, all of them were smiling happily because they were free from the boring Physics lesson.
"So does anyone know how easy it is for a chicken to fart?" Andrew said accompanied by his laughter which made everyone laugh. "No one knows, right? That's why we all got a zero, because no one knows how the chicken farts," he added, making the atmosphere even more chaotic and disturbing the comfort of learning in other classes. Luckily the bell rang again, indicating that Physics class was over and everyone returned to class. When everyone returned to class, the atmosphere was still calm, most were still busy talking about the chicken fart, including Viona and some of her friends. They hoped that no teacher would enter the class until the bell rang. However, when she saw Dewa passing in front of her class, Viona suddenly became embarrassed and shy, luckily no one noticed her change. Maybe with Dewa who was still faithfully standing in front of the door.
"See Al, I miss him so much that Dewa seems to be standing there," Nila said while moving her chin.
"Oh yeah, how could he break up with me for so long, I actually miss him too, I can't stand it if we're really separated," Alya said in a weak voice and with eyes that stared deeply at Dewa. The last words Alya said were clearly captured by Viona's ears. "So we've really broken up," she thought.
Time continued to turn, one by one the subjects were passed until finally the homecoming bell rang. Viona walked towards the school gate, Gita was already waiting for her there.
"Vio, I asked the person directly" said Gita starting the conversation while they were waiting for the bus to go home.
"Who?" Vio replied confused by what Gita had just said.
"Dewa"
"How come? What did you say?"
"I asked him if he really liked you, he nodded then he asked did you know or not so I just said he had known for a long time" said Gita.
"Gosh, asking you everything.." Viona replied but she no longer continued her rant and immediately changed the topic when she realized Dewa was looking at her. Viona had glanced out of the corner of her eye but she tried to ignore Dewa's presence. Although in her heart she hoped Dewa would reprimand her but the thought was immediately removed because suddenly she felt confused about how to act or what response she would give if Dewa reprimanded her.
Arriving home, Viona went straight to her room, took a shower and didn't forget to turn on her cellphone. There were several incoming calls from private numbers, making Viona snort in annoyance and immediately throw her cellphone on the bed. Viona was not like her other friends, who liked to spend hours playing with their cellphones, for her it would be more beneficial if those hours were used to sleep or read novels.
Drrrtt... drrrt... Her cellphone vibrated again, indicating an incoming call, but this time it was not from a private number. Viona quickly pressed the green button before the call ended.
"Hello... Is this Viona?" A male voice was heard on the other end.
"Yes, who is this?"
"This is Dewa..." Then the call was cut off, either because of the signal or because it was intentionally ended.
A few seconds later her cellphone vibrated again, still a call from the same number, and so on repeatedly until it made Viona annoyed and finally rejected the call from that number.
"Sorry Vio, this is Ronal, not Dewa." A message came in from the number claiming to be Ronal.
"Y". Viona only replied with one letter, indicating that her mood was in disarray. And no more reply messages came in until Viona entered her dreamland.
