The sound of the neighbor's rooster crowing could be heard in response, a sign that morning was approaching. With her eyes still sleepy, Viona woke up and dragged her heavy feet to walk to the bathroom. She had just fallen asleep in the early hours of the morning with her cellphone in her hand, hoping that when Dewa contacted her, she would immediately pick up the phone and say good night. But it turned out that was just her hope, even in her dream, there was no news from Dewa.
Viona lazily prepared to go to school, fortunately today there was only the collection of semester exam cards and registration and division of groups for students who would participate in hiking activities, so she didn't need to rush to leave.
When she arrived at the Khayangan intersection, there were already many male and female students wearing white and blue or white, gray uniforms waiting for the bus that would pass.
"How is it? Have you been given permission to join the hiking event tomorrow?" A pat on her shoulder surprised Viona whose thoughts were still wandering everywhere.
"Gosh, that's just surprising, Git. Yes, my father allows it even though my mother has forbidden it, but if my father has given permission, my mother is forced to obey," said Viona with a big smile on her face.
An empty bus stopped at the Khayangan intersection, causing all its loyal passengers to rush into the bus looking for seats, including Viona and some of her friends. Pushing, being squeezed and pushing each other were common things in the morning while waiting for the bus.
Upon arriving at school, Viona went straight to her class to get her exam card and register with the class treasurer about her participation in the Hiking activity that would be held after the semester exams.
"Viona, are you joining?" asked Vani, who served as the treasurer in her class.
"So, this is the form and registration fee," replied Viona while handing over the registration form that had been signed by her parents along with a piece of blue money to Vani, after that Viona chose to sit on a chair and look at the semester exam schedule that she would face tomorrow. She tried to forget about Dewa who until now had not been seen at all.
"For students who are participating in the Hiking activity that will be held next week, please go to the duty desk" A voice was heard from the speaker installed in her class which made Viona get up from her seat and walk towards the duty desk. It was seen that there were already several students standing there and most of them submitted their forms and registration fees to the teacher who was at the duty desk.
"Isn't the payment through the class treasurer, I've already handed over the registration fee and the form to Vani," Viona said to someone standing next to her, without realizing it there was a pair of eyes that kept staring at her who was standing right in front of her.
"This is the form and registration fee in the name of Diviona Prameswari ma'am" Viona immediately turned her head when a voice called her name, it turned out that Vani was already standing there to give a report to the teacher on duty. And unintentionally Viona's eyes saw Dewa who was now right in front of her and was also looking at Viona, there was a subtle tingle that she felt when she saw Dewa from such a close distance, the man who had disappeared for several days and made her grumpy and lose her spirit. Her face felt hot and the girl suddenly became embarrassed when their eyes met. Even though they had never spoken to each other, it turned out that she felt the longing. Not wanting to linger in that condition, Viona finally chose to leave immediately and move away from the duty table. While Dewa continued to stare at her until Viona really moved away from her sight.
Viona was seen joining some of her classmates who were busy looking for where their exam seats were so they could strategize during the exam. Everyone felt the same fear because this exam was not multiple choice but an essay. Some looked panicked and had to give up because they got a seat right in front of the supervisor's desk, some looked happy because they got a seat in the back row and the corner, and so did Viona who felt lucky to get a seat in the back row. After confirming their exam positions, some students were seen sitting in groups with friends whose exam seats were close together, with no other purpose than to strategize who would memorize and make cheat sheets for chapter 1, memorize chapter 2 and so on. So that they wouldn't have to tire themselves out reading the material for a whole semester at once. After dealing with the division, the group dispersed, and so did Viona who got the chance to read and make cheat sheets for Chapter 3. It's unknown who came up with the idea, but almost every class practiced it and it always worked.
"Did Dewa come earlier, Git?" said Viona suddenly when they were sitting in the school cafeteria which happened to be deserted.
"Yes, earlier he came with his parents, yesterday he didn't come in, there was no news either, even though he was the ceremony officer that's why he was so conspicuous." Gita explained.
"Dewa should have been the ceremony leader? No wonder yesterday the ceremony leader often gave the wrong commands," Viona commented"That's why this morning there was a commotion in class when he came, because he didn't come the ceremony was messed up and got bad comments from the teachers, but he answered that if Dewa came the ceremony would be great, the teachers would give him four thumbs up. His comments were annoying" Gita said passionately, her annoyance at Dewa was still clearly visible which made Viona giggle holding back her laughter.
"Eh but he's coming hiking tomorrow?"
"Yes he's coming, earlier he asked me whether I would come or not, because he saw you at the registration desk" Gita replied which was only answered with a nod by Viona. After that there was no more conversation between them, the canteen looked even more crowded because it was lunch time and Viona secretly hoped that Dewa would be among the many visitors to the canteen. However, until the food on her plate was finished, Dewa was still nowhere to be seen.
"Be patient Viona, don't think about guys yet, he could be busy studying for tomorrow's exam, and you should also study for the exam, after all you have the responsibility to discuss one chapter" she said in a monologue in her heart.
At home, Viona no longer waited for messages or phone calls from Dewa. The class WhatsApp group also looked quiet, maybe they were busy making cheat sheets for tomorrow. After checking all the messages that came into her phone, Viona immediately turned off the phone, so that there would be no more disturbances while she was focusing on studying.
