Chapter 68

Landon's POV
When I walked into Vance's palace, I knew something was off, I just didn't know what.
Things actually got worse when he told me, us, about it. It doesn't help that I could guess who was responsible, and it would be correct. The bastard had so much nerve coming up here.
I struggled to hide all that was going through my head. It doesn't help that Vance is not dumb. According to what he says, everyone who stayed on the outskirts were attacked, except me. It automatically meant that they knew me to avoid my place. The dumb asses just could not wait for another few days. Stupid lot.
I was so busy in my head that I didn't realize when Vance stood up, until he patted my shoulder on his way out. The sound of his vehicle fully jolted me back to the present. The gamma too was on his way out, headed to the site of the attack. That only meant one thing. Nadia was home, alone, well, relatively.
I sat still till I made sure both Vance and the gamma were both gone before heading for the room I know Vance to share with Nadia. I had no fear for Vance's silly old maid, she dared not utter a word about it even if she did see me.
The grandiose of this place leaves me with little wonder about why Nadia has been avoiding me all this while and hasn't come to see me. It's been over a month! While I'm in that forsaken house rotting, she's here, enjoying Vance's money and his cum. Stupid bitches, all of them.
I caught her by the window, looking out, apparently deep in thought. She probably was expecting no one other than Vance, which is why she did not whip her head immediately as I had expected her to.
“Landon!” She said, more like screamed. I put a hand to my lip, telling her to shush. I wasn't supposed to be here, we both knew that, and I did not want to be caught there.
If I described her as scantily clad, it was still too much for what she had on her body. Her silky smooth skin was knocking the midday sun rays right back out of the window. She looked better than she ever did with me. She was even daydreaming!
“So this is why you won't come to see me, huh?” I asked her. Still maintaining eye contact, I drew closer to her. She started to back out, but stopped when she realized she would just be letting me further and further into the room, and if we were caught like that, it would be far worse.
“I don't understand what you mean.” She replied to me. Her eyes were shifty and she knew that I knew she was not telling the truth.
“You don't understand what I mean when I say it's all Vance's money and looks and sex that has made you forget me?” I knew she was not expecting what I said when she winced and looked out of the window.
“Technically, he's my husband. What would you have me do?” Now that's the Nadia I know.
“You realize how it makes me feel to hear you say that?” I asked her. I planned to swallow my pride, and asides that, let her know in every way possible that no matter how hard she dreamed of a happy family life with Vance, it just would never happen. It can't happen, so long as I walk free and alive.
She caught the look in my eyes and in her best interest decided to shut up. I stand there staring at her. It's not like I could do anything even if I wanted to, she's now under Vance. If I laid as much as a single finger on her, I'd be gone so fast they wouldn't have been ready for me in the afterlife.
“This is neither the time nor the place for this.” Nadia said when it dawned on her that I was in no hurry to leave till I got the answers I wanted.
“We had an agreement.” I started. “One that you keep breaking and breaching and threatening to scatter.” She gave her characteristic ‘I don't care look’, which made me even madder.
“Do you really think I've got nothing to threaten you with, Nadia?” I realized that with the amount of guts and confidence she's been showing of Kate, it could only mean that she probably has forgotten that we both have equal stakes and blames however this turns out.
“Why would I? It's all you've ever known how to do, threaten.” She shoots a very menacing smile and several daggers with her eyes. I got the message though. She's beyond me now. Or so she thinks…
“Apparently, we were attacked by some rogue pack last night.” I saw the fear in her before she immediately masked it. “Whether or not you want it, Vance will go, and it will fall to me. But there's one thing I promise you, I won't spare you.” I made sure to lock her gaze in everything I said and that did it.
She stared down at her toes for a very long while. She wasn't exactly readable, but the defiance had reduced.
“Did you plan it?” I almost thought I didn't hear her well.
“What did you just say?” I asked. All the blood in my body had begun to rush to my head. I was red hot and definitely ready to pounce on her, but I couldn't.
I wanted to tell her the truth, but I'd rather not.
“What do you think?” I asked, struggling to keep a straight face as hers morphed into one that looked like she had just seen a spirit.
“Answer me, Landon.” She demanded, pleadingly.
“This is how much you care about him?” I asked her instead. I felt very irritated that she could be this riled up about the life of that entitled bastard.
“Don't ask me questions, answer mine.” Nadia looked really shaken. It was victory, I had made my point.
I was not going to push my luck by staying any further in Vance's room, so I turned back toNadia started to head out.
“You really did not have to.” She said
“By any means necessary, Nadia.” It's the last thing I said to her before shutting their door behind me.
It's time to actually show that bastard that threatening me was not the way forward. Yes we had an agreement, yes, I was stalling, but it's my game and definitely my rules.
