Chapter 28 Mila did not lie in telling me that the two of us are the same. We have the same goals. Justice and the truth. For now, she’s my other half—my partner. She needed me, to the same degree how I needed her. We both decided that I will only visit her when I have an update or at least once a month. We don’t have a time frame for our plan. It’s better to conduct it safely and carefully. By Saturday, we had another physical training. I felt stronger than before though my muscles were gushing with pain and soreness. They were roaring, wanting to escape from the pain. I never had physical training or even work out intensely before. My body wasn’t used to that. I already told Chaz about it but he wasn’t listening. Everyone, even the newbie, got hard on themselves earlier. I realize I might grow abs with our training. When I was in middle school, it had always been my wish to have abs. High school women that are passing by our house were sexy and have abs. I’ve been promising myself since then to work out, yet I never fulfilled that promise until now. Classes were canceled this Wednesday because of a town holiday. I don’t know what holiday that was but I was happy we didn’t have any classes. So Gelo and I decided to have a picnic near the lake. I brought the current book that I was reading and a few snacks I could find in my fridge. This would be a relaxing day unless Gelo is going to talk nonstop while I was reading my book. “Where are you going, dear?” Nana asked us just before we exit their house. “Picnic near the lake,” I answered. “You should’ve told me earlier! I would have baked cookies for both of you. Since it’s already afternoon, you shouldn’t go home late.” “Nana, you don’t remind us every day. We’re not going home late.” Nana chuckled sweetly again. “Just reminding you, Gelo. I don’t want you to put yourself in danger because of your stubbornness.” “I’m not stubborn!” Nana gave a witching stare. “Yes, you are. Remember the last time you almost get lost when you were a kid. I almost died searching for you.” “That was before. I’m already eighteen. Catherine and I can handle ourselves.” “Okay, take care.” I smiled at Nana when we exited the house. “Is that how the two of you tease each other? That was cute.” “Yeah, I think so. Have you ever been to a picnic before?” “Only on the beach. Hot rays of the sun, coarse sand, hot men walking around.” I laughed at that statement. Gelo squinted his eyes. “Don’t get me wrong! I don’t flirt with men on the beach.” “Yes, you don’t. You’re a good girl. The perfect image of a daughter.” “Everyone says that.” I was surprised that there were a few couple groups near the lake. I guess everyone loves to stay in this spot to enjoy themselves. Most of them were couples, very young ones. Gladly, no one was making out. It’s disgusting to see two people grinding each other’s lips. Kisses were only romantic in a book. In real life, it sucks. Maybe because my lips hadn't been kissed since I was born. We draped the blank over the hill of grasses, a lot of distance from the next one. We placed the food in the center. Since we were beside a tree, I leaned on it and crossed my arms. I grabbed my book and continued reading on the page where I left off last night. “I thought we were supposed to picnic together. Not you and your book,” Gelo said teasingly. I closed the book on where the bookmark was. “Are you jealous of my book? Well, you shouldn’t be. They are my best friends, wolf.” “As if you can talk to your book?” “My books didn’t just talk to me, they travel me to different places, inside the mind of different characters.” “You’re a truly certified bookworm. But can we talk about another thing aside from your book? How’s your conversation going with Mila?” “Don’t be too loud. We don’t want to get busted by these people. We’re starting a plan.” “What plan?” “Mila and I… We both decided to find out who killed my parents and for her to take her revenge on the Alpha. I don’t know what she’s planning to do but this is what I want.” “Are you losing your mind, Catherine?” His eyes popped into confusion. I knew he wouldn’t agree to this plan. “The alpha is the most powerful person in a pack. Aside from that he’s strong and powerful, everyone else in the plack would dare to hurt the two of you if you dare to touch their leader. They are willing to kill for their alpha.” “I know. We’re careful. And I’m telling you this because I trust you. You won’t tell anyone else, right?” “I wanted to tell your brothers so badly.” “You’re not going to tell my brothers! Or I will not talk to you ever again.” “Oh, crap!” That was absurd, I know. But if he’s going to tell my two brothers, I would despise her for ruining my plan. “Fine. But I want to be part of your plan.” “You what?” “Part of your plan.” I shook my head, disagreeing with what he was saying. “No way! I don’t want you to get involved in this dangerous thing. You have your family in here. You’re even innocent of what happened to our parents. You’ll get hurt.” “Mila’s a human. You’re a half-blood who can’t turn into a wolf. How can I let you alone in this thing? You need a protector.” “You’re looking at us lowly. We humans can have the strength too. There’s no reason for you to do this. Don’t get yourself involved.” “No, Catherine. I’ll involve myself whether you like it or not.” I raised my voice. “Because I like you!” What? What the fuck?
