CHAPTER 34 When I woke up, it felt like amnesia hit me. I can’t remember anything from the last night. I transformed into a wolf and I am not sure what happened after that. But my body was tired—nope—exhausted. I can’t get myself up from my bed. I wanted to sleep more but my mind was already awake. I got up from my bed. My body was numb and it can’t feel anything right now. I fixed my freaking bed mindlessly. Maybe it’s because of exhaustion and sleepiness. And I don’t like procrastinating on making my bed. I looked into the mirror. What had I done last night? How the fuck did I transform into a wolf? Was it because of anger? I went down to the kitchen. Weird. My brothers weren’t here. I’m all alone? Nope. Maybe they’re inside their room or visiting Nana again. Why would they visit Nana? She wasn’t dying or such. I drank a whole glass of water. My dry lips turned wet. I inhaled the stale air and reminisce what happened last night. I went to Mila’s place to update her. The sunset and the moon arise, which I noticed late. A group of four wolves attacked us. Angelo appeared in surprise to rescue me and Mila. I can’t do anything so I only watched them. Then those wolves… Gelo almost died last night! I almost choke up the water at that thought. I need to visit Gelo right now. I needed to make sure he’s totally fine. He can’t die by saving. I can’t beg to lose someone I love because he tried to save me. I rushed to the door. Before my hand touched the know, it opened voluntarily from the other side. It slapped my face. “Ouch!” I palmed my face. That was annoyingly painful. “What are you doing right there, Cath?” Felix asked when he finally entered the house. Jay glanced at me, his brows dropped. “Gelo! I mean I was about to visit Gelo.” Do they know what happened last night? “He’s fine,” Jay assured me. “We just visited him. Have you eaten your lunch?” “Lunch?” My brows furrowed. I haven’t eaten breakfast as well. Felix pulled his phone from his pocket. He showed me the time. It’s 1:07 PM! How long did I sleep? “You’re not that exhausted from last night, huh?” I covered my mouth. My two brothers sat on the couch. “What exactly happened last night?” Felix and Jay shared a gaze and both shrugged. Jay leaned his face forward on me. “We are not with you last night. Gelo brought carried you here with a woman named Mila. Maybe you should check on him because we don’t know what happened last night.” “Yeah…” I stood up and brushed the dirt on the knee of my pants. “I’ll just go” I ran away from them. “Cath, wait!” I gazed back at Felix. “Don’t do it again next time. We’re so worried about you.” I only smiled at my brothers. I’m stubborn enough to do it again for the sake of my brothers. … I smell bread when I opened Nana’s door. I was confident enough not to call anybody before entering. Nana was my second family in this town. If it weren’t for her family, I don’t if there’s a reason to stay. “Catherine!” Nana exclaimed. She placed the plate with Brazillian cheesecakes on top of it. I let the house fully succumb to me. Then I saw Mila sitting comfortably on Nana’s couch. How could she be here comfortable in that situation? I don’t blame her for not staying in her dangerous hut. But being comfortable inside a home that wasn’t yours was too annoying for someone like me who is the one who does most of the chores. Nana’s kind to let her stay. “Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost seeing me here?” Mila frowned at me. Is she a normal human? She has the sense to know what I was feeling about her. Or maybe it’s just too obviously painted on my face. I shake my head. “No. That’s not it.” I forced a smile. “How are you?” Mila smiled back at me. She stood up as if she wasn’t watching a fantasy movie earlier. I guessed it wasn’t a book-to-movie adaptation. I have read and watched almost all of those. “I told you before that someone’s helping me. It’s Nana.” “What?” My forehead creased like paper. “Gelo doesn’t trust you. Is it an act or what? Your confession hit me through my bones.” “Gelo doesn’t know anything,” Nana answered. He placed the plate of pieces of bread on the small glass table near the couch and sofas. I sat on one of the sofas. “He doesn’t see me sneaking out to Mila whenever the two of you are at school.” “Where is he? Is he fine?” Nana pointed to the stairs. “Go to his room. The one on the right.” I quickly followed her instruction. I’m not here for the bread or to get intimidated by Mila. I am here to check on Gelo. If it weren’t for him, I might be dead right now. I made a mistake. I opened the room on the left. Maybe I lost direction after what happened last night. The scent inside the room was solid and dark. No wonder this is Sage. I went to the other side of the stairs and knocked. “This is Catherine.” “Get inside.” Gelo’s voice echoed into the sphere. I rotated the doorknob and saw him lying on his bed, covered with a blanket. I bet his aircon was turned into maximum since it felt like I was in an igloo. I closed the door. “How are you?” “I’m fine,” he said weakly. “How can you be fine when you have a bruise on your forehead?” I strode towards him. “Sometimes people aren’t always fine. Sometimes life is painful.” “Don’t be too overdramatic, Cath. I’m fine and alive. It’s better to see you like this. Alive and close to me. “Me too.” I sat on the bed beside him. I kissed his forehead. His body was hit by lightning after what I did but I meant it and I don’t regret doing that. “What exactly happened last night? I don’t remember anything.” “You turned into a wolf. You were raging. You killed the four wolves.” I gasped at his confession. Did I kill someone? There must be a mistake here. I don’t the capability to kill someone. “But I’m not that strong to do that. I am outnumbered and I can’t face the four of them.” Gelo clutched my wrist. “But you did. You were so different that night. I thought I don’t know you. You don’t look like the Catherine I knew. Catherine who’s sweet and innocent. The wolf inside you was raging. It controlled you that’s why you don’t remember anything. You collapsed after you killed them that’s we have to bring you home. You’re different from us. You’re not an ordinary werewolf.” “What do you mean?” “You might have royal blood in you.”
